It's a reference to this http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hug_machine Channers and ggers pride themselves on their "everyone scream their opinion in each others face until everyone is screaming the same thing" version of debate and intellectual rigor (also at the root of the sealion phenomenon). Any community which doesn't "debate" in this style (ie: progressives) is a "hugbox".

It's a dog whistle. Comments on dyed hair mean "these people are basically Randi Harper and Zoe Quinn". Dyed hair is a way GG refers to them without "touching the poop" as those fuckheads would say. Again, this is an ableist *chan code that means "these people are in the corrupt Progressive Indie Game Devs clique and probably have tumblr accounts". Maybe this guy is a dev with some experience (I doubt it), but he's definitely a dyed in the wool gator. The way he talks about "the good old says" when real men used real coding languages to make real games and weirdo hipsters having to "earn" the right to be weirdo hipsters sounds like what someone in their early twenties thinks making games was like 10 years ago.

Yo Blambo, maybe I'm just more tuned in to shitty 4chan anti-semitism but that Le Happy Aurini video is p anti-semitic.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Reyturner replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I primarily derive value from QLs through what I would describe as my LP Synesthesia; I can very reliably get a feel for a game by watching other people play and react to it. As for critique, good lord why would you go to Giant Bomb for critique? That is, unless you want to know if something is bad, so weird, dumb, super fun or if it has styyyyyyyyle. In fact, they should probably replace their 5 star system with that.- 1367 replies

Holy crap. This is why I love dota. 4 minutes of one matchup can support 20 minutes of interesting analysis.

What if everyone did it as well as Elizabeth Simmons?

his whole life is basically one of those BuzzFeed Can't Even joke lists.

So after watching Drew talk about Heroes Charge on GB, I gave it a try. I like it. A lot. The offbrand Dota styling is so cute and charming. It scratches a lot of the Destiny places, with its grinding loot to feed to other loot to feed to OTHER loot to feed to heroes.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

Brad's bants are easily the weakest on GB. He also doesn't have any real interesting non-games topics he can draw on or really any great knowledge of many games, and the ones he does know well he feels the need to constantly denigrate and apologize for liking (peer pressure from Jeff being a contributing factor). I've also began to notice that he seems to have trouble articulating why he likes games, which, for a reviews editor (is that still his official title?) is kind of a gap in the ol' CV. He needs a sabbatical or a vision quest or something to revitalize his contributions.- 1367 replies

Back in days of yore (November), I was going to run a game for some thumbs but work got in the way. It looks like my schedule is starting to clear up. Is anyone still interested? 5e. Biweekly Fridays. 8pm PST -

If he gives up writing amusing and insightful articles about THAC0 in favor of accepting speaking fees for offering condescending advice to women in tech, I'll agree. Though, when Mandy Morbid (his girl friend) writes stuff like this (nsfw as she's a porn actress, but there wasn't anything nsfw in that link, in the mobile site at least), it gives me pause in writing him off as a one man gamergate.

I've read Playing D&D with Porn Stars on and off for years (it is, no joke, some of the best TTRPG writing I've ever come across and his Vornheim book has survived a couple of rpg book culls) and I've dug into these dust ups whenever I notice them happen. I have done the tinniest bit of my own Googling, and came across and looked into 2 of those 3 links. That's what led to me to think that a majority of the charges against him are either based on his reactions to other people's attacks on him or his girl friend, people simply repeating "I heard he was an asshole", or bath faith interpretations of things he's said. The evidence in that Problematic Table Top blog is less than conclusive. A common trend is someone going "he's a *-ist piece of shit", he appearing like Beetljuice saying "literally when ever?", the someone goin "Everyone knows it and now you're harassing me", Zak goes "fuck you" and then that someone submits a bunch of screen shots to a blog. He's not a perfect victim: he doesn't deal with legit criticism well at all, and has a habit of lumping the trolls and the well meaning into the same cannon and firing them all into the sun. I don't want to be the white man questioning the policy of listening to and believing people who report abuse, but watching this stuff repeatedly come up in real time makes me think the GG tactic of co-opting SJ language to beat someone they don't like over the head is as much on display in this case as his own bad behaviour.

I don't want to make like I'm his PR agent or anything, but I see people like Jay "A Man in Black" Allen and gamer ghazi literally calling him a one man gamergate and I'm seriously confused.
-
I really can't square the "Zak S is an asshole" narrative. It seems like whenever people call him an abusive name searching asshole, the evidence they point to is him showing up somewhere to defend himself when people are calling him a abusive name searching asshole. And, from what I've seen, the responses he gets back smack of the same gas-lighting style gators throw at people like Brianna Wu or Randi Harper:"this is rich from a known abuser", stuff like that. Beyond conflating people who disagree with his, and his social circle's, views on sexualized depictions of women in media with Pat Robertson, I've never seen him be anything but cool.

Mainstream Super Hero comics are a lot like professional wrestling. Where they used to be super defensive about being real and gritty and serious, they've now gotten to the point where they're not trying to be anything but what they are, and are embracing the historically corny awkward style. They've also started speaking directly to their tuned in audience, with references to comic blogs, real world business stuff, irl controversies, etc. Weird meta nods like this are super common. I doubt this was the culmination of any big story arc, as much as a couple panel meta gag who's primary purpose is setting up the "real" story of the issue. The writer, Jason Aaron, doesn't really seem to have a history of activist writing; he's just Comics Writer McWhiteguy. In his own words, he isn't really aiming to make a point with this, beyond mocking reactionaries complaining about feminism ruining comics.

I'm pretty sure that's the Absorbing Man.

Gamergate isn't against diversity in video games. They're just against being critical of non-diversity in video games. Especially when that anti-non-diversity in video games sentiment comes in the form of diversity in video games. Gamergate is fine with diversity in video games so long as those video games and the people who make them in no way comment on, encourage or promote diversity in video games. It's so reasonable and logical

Drew Scanlon's sour Dan related grapes at the end of his streaming setup video was p funny.
