  1. I laughed myself into tears reading this wiki entry. Jesus, is this a thing? Is there really an entire wiki populated with completely made-up content about games that don't exist?
  2. Euro Truck Simulator 2

Has anyone managed to run this game on max settings? I'd be interested in seeing some screenshots of that. I've only managed to run it at medium-ish settings, and some of the options seem to scale waaaaay up.

Realistically, you should just lift the whole art style of Crimson Skies. No game has ever had cooler looking planes than that one.
  4. Euro Truck Simulator 2

Definitely played like five hours of this today. PIcked it up on impulse, and because I had heard good things about it. Wow, this game is incredibly fun. Not only is the actual driving part of it pretty in-depth and entertaining, but there's also a whole football management sim-esque side to it, where you can hire drivers and buy additional trucks, so you have a whole fleet on the road working for you. There's also tons of fiddly little truck customizations, like changing your light bar or your sidesteps or whatever. If you've ever enjoyed the car customization crap in old Need For Speed games or anything, you'll love the shit out of this.

Just tried out that prototype. There was no one else on, so I was just flying around, but it seems like a really awesome idea. The only issue I found is that the autopilot has no collision avoidance whatsoever, so when you eject and then right-click to bring your plane back, sometimes the plane just mashes into a building while trying to pick you up. I'd really like to try this with other players, so post in here if you're gonna give it a whirl, folks. EDIT: Got my friend to join a game with me. This seems like a really fun idea. The thing where you can grapple on to other people's planes and kick them out is sweet. We definitely broke the hell out of it at a couple points and had to refresh, but when it works, it's pretty fun.

RIP 1up and Gamespy. 'Tis a dark day for games journalism when those two sites get sacrificed to keep IGN alive.

The whole low-latency television thing is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. It's crazy to me that no one has made a TV aimed at gamers yet, with specs that would be desirable to people who use their TV almost exclusively for playing games. We've had so much awful, gimmicky, cross-marketed schlock thrown at us as GAMERZZZ, but no one has tried to market the primary thing you actually look at the entire time you're playing games to us. What gives?

Driveclub looks fun, but it also looks like a bunch of features that the Forza series has already successfully integrated. One also has to wonder how much of an arcadey dorifto monstrosity it's going to be, given that Polyphony is inevitably working on the next Gran Turismo already, which will be a proper sim racer. I don't foresee wanting to put out two first-party sim racing franchises one after another. In other news...who the fuck gives a shit about all this game streaming nonsense? I already can't stand the input lag on most big LCD displays, and now I'm supposed to buy into the idea of playing games with internet-connection levels of input latency? And I'm supposed to buy all my PS1, PS2 and PS3 games all over again on fucking Gaikai, because there won't be any hardware backwards compatibility? NOTHANKYOU.JPG

Do Sony and Microsoft not know that Nintendo's patent on the D-pad design has lapsed? They can stop using their own shitty designs now.

Yeah, I seem to hear nothing but a series of consecutive faux pas coming out of the PAR camp, since the day they launched it. I have a sneaking suspicion Ben Kuchera was a pretty big twat all along, but the editorial guidelines over at Ars kept him from proving it to everyone.
  11. League o' Legends season 3 is underway now. I didn't play ranked during preseason, so now I'm crawling my way out of bronze league. If anyone wants to duo queue, add me! Summoner name = forum name.
  12. This is the new (console) shit!

Just Cause is on PC, though. With an awesome (hilarious) multiplayer mod, no less.
  13. Plug your shit

That plane game looks mighty rad already. I_smell, if you plan on implementing any sort of campaign mode, and want to work with a writer, drop me a line!
  14. I imagine a lot of people will have heard the noise about this already, but if you haven't, here's the deal: the American government is in the process of trying to pass a law that would require all games to have an ESRB ratings in order to be sold, either physically or digitally. It's a pretty flagrant attempt at censorship, and one that doesn't apply to any other forms of media, so people are pretty up in arms about it. On the other hand, many people are saying that such a law would get tossed out by the Supreme Court (and that similar ones have before) because it's a violation of the First Amendment. Here's a decent summary of the bill and its possible ramifications. Thoughts? Opinions?
  15. Have y'all been following this HR287 business?

No one said or implied that there should be no restrictions on what can be sold to whom.
  16. You could just get a USB DAC and bypass your sound card entirely, if you don't feel like upgrading your sound card. You can get a cheap USB DAC for like $30.
  17. Man, I just got to Act 3, and they really stepped it up with the environments in these areas. All of Act 3 is one huge city!
  18. Plug your shit

I was just reminded that this thread exists, so I guess I should post in here. Two things: - I play in a hardcore band called Twin Tusks. We have an EP out, and another one coming out in March or April. You can listen to the existing one for free, on our bandcamp. -I write for a living, and when I'm not working on the stuff I get paid to write about, I write a blog about games called Transparent Seas. I try to post at least one long-form post a month, or more if I have more free time. Feedback is appreciated on either (or both) of the above shits that I am plugging.
  19. This is the new (console) shit!

I don't think I'll ever find myself on the Sony side of the fence, purely because of how much Forza has been kicking Gran Turismo's ass for the last couple iterations. I'm a huge sim racing junkie, and played the hell out of GT3 A-spec back in the day, but that franchise is really not looking so hot these days.
  20. Have y'all been following this HR287 business?

This is straying pretty far off topic, but yeah, I'm fairly sure the American Supreme Court has upheld the freedom of speech rights of hatemongers on several occasions. None of the examples of hate speech that often get banned in other countries (ex. Holocaust denial) are illegal in the USA. Incidentally, one of the strongest and most well-reasoned defenders of absolute freedom of speech has been a British-born journalist, Christopher Hitchens. It's a long debate, so skip through to Hitchens' parts if you feel so inclined. He's the one in the light gray shirt.
  21. The ship: fruitcake steam cruise.

There's a surprising amount of people in here who don't have this supposedly ubiquitous game. The 300-key fruitcake cluster bomb must be released ASAP!
  22. Have y'all been following this HR287 business?

FWIW, I'm not American, and I share the American Constitution's belief that freedom of speech and expression must be upheld without exception. In fact, I think the hate speech laws we have here in Canada are essentially censorship, and shouldn't be a thing at all.
  23. Have y'all been following this HR287 business?

Yeah, it's not self-regulatory if the government is regulating the industry insofar as legally requiring games to be rated.
  24. This is the new (console) shit!

Microsoft couldn't force their way into the Bluray market, after they already committed to HD-DVD and it failed. That's why they didn't release a Bluray add-on for the 360. Now that next-gen is coming around, they're including Bluray so they can have big games without having them come on a million DVDs. That's it. That's all there is to it. You guys are being silly.
  25. This is the new (console) shit!

It's kind of amusing how we've regressed in terms of multi-disc storing methods. In the PS1 era, there was lots of games that had 3+ discs, and they had those thick jewel cases with the middle layer. Those things worked great. Now we're starting to see multi-disc games again, and no one has bothered making a DVD-style case that can actually hold three or more discs gracefully.
