  1. I'm making mead again

I just realized today that my cider is still fermenting in the fridge. Maybe it'll be pretty good by the time Christmas rolls along. I had a sip when I moved it to the fridge and it tasted mildly alcoholic, and slightly drier, but not otherwise very different from the original stuff.

Quick tip for all: If you want to start making your own wine, hard cider is probably the easiest. All you need is to buy a gallon jug of cider, a packet of yeast, and a balloon. Having some vodka around helps. Easy peasy: poke a small hole or two in the balloon (a needle is ideal for this). Pour a little vodka in the balloon (this is just to disinfect. Everclear works too). Open the cider, pour in the packet of yeast (regular fleishman's is fine), and put the balloon over the neck. Store the jug in a dark place. Voila. The balloon will inflate by the next morning (if the cider wasn't cold, it might just take an hour or less). When the balloon deflates again, it's probably ready. It'll take between a week and a month, depending on the yeast you use and how warm the cider is. A friend of mine had a problem where her's fermented too fast and leaked, so if you're storing it in a warm place, leave a tray under it. This recipe might result in a strange banana-like off-flavor. This comes from the yeast, and is normal, but can be avoided if you take extra steps. Brewing and winemaking is only as complicated as you want it to be.

Just got back from a first date with a really great gal. Went really well. Really hyped for our second date. Related, Wreck-it-Ralph was everything I expected it to be. It had the one element I've always wanted in a Video game movie: A character walking into a wall and his walk cycle continuing to run as he slides awkwardly along the wall. Unfortunately it lacked invisible barriers.

Aww, thanks America. You didn't have to reelect Obama. We would have survived. And you didn't have to oust Akin or Mourdock. We could have dealt with them. You didn't have to pass those amendments legalizing gay marriage. Or elect your first Asian-American and openly gay senators. You didn't have to do any of that. But I appreciate that you did.
  5. What I wish the picture was is a picture of Boromir taking a massive toke. One thought on spectacle: You mentioned that the problem with some forms of spectacle in a board game, such as a massive infantry charge, is that they take a long time to set up and aren't worth the time. Earlier, however, it was mentioned that towards the end of Risk, it's very satisfying having the mass of troops to conquer the board. I'll propose that a strong exception to the setup rule is when the setup takes place over the course of the entire game. Just a thought.

So I met a girl I've been talking to online at a dive bar in Columbia. I learned that I really throw off people's gaydar. The fact I kissed a guy didn't help I'm sure. Fun night. Would do again.

I normally do too. I mean, they're great fun, and they have a delightful universe and all, but they're pretty melodramatic and the acting isn't very good and yada-yada. Well, a couple months ago I watched it with a girl who had never seen it before. And it was the most exciting thing ever. Watching with someone who literally sat up and shouted "NO! NO WAY!" When vader dropped the paternal bombshell on Luke was the most amazing thing. I wish that experience could be repeated.

Will this be considered Star Wars canon? http://youtu.be/-yRNXFhboBI
  10. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I thought that video was familiar, so I looked it up, and it turns out it's actually over a year old, and was made to promote the reopening of Star Tours I've never been to Disneyland, so I didn't know about any of this stuff.
  11. Plug your shit

Remind me not to reply on the iPhone, I tend not to bother make sure I said what I meant when my screen's too small to proofread at a glance. What I was thinking and wanted to say was that the plethora of vague and sometimes contradictory terms reminds me of 20th century liberal arts intellectualism. Not necessarily that that's what you guys are doing, but that the state of game academia is fertile ground for that sort of nonesense. And by tl;dr all I meant was, I don't know what exactly you guys are talking about, I'm not interested in reading all the paragraphs of discussion, so I dunno if what I was saying is relevant. Like I said, remind me not to try and reply on the iPhone.
  12. Plug your shit

All this talk of ambiguous semantics is reminding me of "Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity" by Sokol. But really, tl;dr.

I figured the red lines were accentuating the issue, since they don't seem to be at the same resolution. But I could be totally wrong.
  15. I didn't know it was a film, I figured it was just some weird Philip Glass piece, because all I had seen of it before was this clip:

Those icons jiggle when you do the tap-hold thing to move icons. Are you cheating by doing a screengrab of a moment in animation?
  17. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I'm going to say that that was actually one bit that probably had the most potential. Especially at the beginning, I really enjoyed the subtle father-son dynamic that was going on, and I was kind of looking forward to a sort of passing-of-the-torch, where the aging Indy, who can't do all the cool athletic adventuring he did, ended up mentoring his successor. The problem, instead, was that the rest of the movie was crap and didn't make any sense.

  20. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I'm cool with this. I'd rather Star Wars be tied, even indirectly, with Marvel and Pixar, than left in the hands of George. Btw JonCole, Skywalker Sound already handles the sound for all Pixar films. So I dunno how much will change there. Also, Pixar gives technical support to ILM with Renderman. So I still don't think much will change on that account. But one thing I think is interesting here is that Disney, although less famously than George Lucas, already change things when they rerelease their films. Usually it's minor things, like touching up the colors, but they've been known to reanimate shots from time to time. Usually it's the original artists who have shots they didn't like and wanted to redo, but people do complain about it. So I guess the tradition shall live on.

I looked up the port of Dildo, Newfoundland. Puffins live there. I googled Dildo Puffins. There was, sadly, no overlap.
