  1. suzuki GN250 is a safe bet.

unless you're tall. then it's a terrible idea.

are jap bikes relatively cheap in the US?

the best bit of advice i ever ignored was: spend your money on good gear, then the rest on the bike.

  2. i have the cheapest crap i could find:

shiro helmet and strada jacket, with a spare ffm helmet for passengers.

the rest is too much to lug around all day, and i can't wear boots.

anyone else feel disconnected from the bike when wearing gloves? my hands are the only part of me with a tan.

Killstar - where are you headed on your mini trip?

  3. I once hit a full bag of garbage that was sitting in the middle of an eight lane motorway.

saw it and swerved at the last minute but smacked it with my foot and dislocated a toe. had to keep riding, imagining i had lost half my foot, until the next exit.

    fun.

  4. This topic is such a bizarre read. I will contribute:

I woke up one night, many years ago, feeling a bit weird and decided to go to the toilet. When I was walking back to my bed I suddenly just couldn't keep going anymore and collapsed. Next thing I remember I was upright again clinging to a table so tightly that my father had serious difficulties in making me let go. Once I got to my bed, everything was perfectly fine again. The doctor said that what I experienced was some sort of intermediate state between being awake and asleep, which sounds a bit bullshit to be honest. I haven't had a similar episode since.

Sounds like a hypnagogic state? They do exist.

The only time I remember fainting I was on acid and had forgotten to eat all day. Terrifying.

  5. You don't know that, man. NASA is faking the Mars missions by sending rovers to the Moon and taking the photos with an Instagram filter.

    "hipster rover conspiracy."

  6. i read a really interesting article just after the shooting exploring the idea that 'merica got democracy too early. i wish i could find it but i'll have to paraphrase:

basically, most societies developed law and security under a monarchistic model, where authority was in the hands of a ruler. law and order was established and people got used to the idea of police as a state force that mostly worked in their favour. then the monarchies slowly lost power and authority/law was transferred to the people.

not so in 'merica. power was taken by the people and decentralised before order had been established, and the militia mentality was built in to the founding ideals. a man and his gun was still a rational necessity in the protection of society. instead of the idea of refining the legal system, the idea of standing outside it became dominant.

i don't know if i explained that too well.

the problem i see is that you need a gun because everyone else has a gun. everyone else has a gun because way back when the legal power system had too many holes in it and now it's too late to take them off everybody.
