Let me write up my last installment and I'll share it with you via dropbox, if that's alright?
I'll try and get it done this evening.
-
I think I'm in Jon's camp when it comes to playing early access games: life is too short and there are plenty of great games waiting for me to play that have been released and patched and balanced. I don't see how anybody has time to play the games that are out, let along earlyaccess games, unless you're just interacting with them on a surface level.

Cordeos is next. Still interested?
-
Up to 1112AD. More soon!
-
Next part is up. We enter the time of Pope Hilarious II.
Sorry for the time I'm taking... I had a work trip to Brazil last week. Still catching up with my own life, let alone 12thC Southern France.
-
This will probably be the next game I pick up :-)
-
I just made the time to read this. It's wonderful! I'm also very pleased that you have a matrilineal marriage and therefore there's no need for out-of-character murders to keep our game going.
Thanks.. although, we're running a variant of elective succession I believe, so I wouldn't need to be followed by my son? Still, it's fun to keep everything in character.. try and do things that are good for the family, but not necessarily great for the player. Which seems to be in keeping with her traits.
I have played a bit more, I just need to find time to crop the images and write up the diary. It's surprisingly hard work, as there are so many details that can be potentially mentioned.
I'm off to Brazil today with work for a week. I will try and take a copy of the save and my screenshots, and perhaps I'll find time to write up what's been happening while on the plane of something.
Who's after me anyway?
-
ok, part 1 of play reign is up on my blog.
-
Yeah, I feel bad that you died so young, but you definitely carved out your own niche. Who's next, Riadsala himself? I assume he's going to commit some infanticide to keep our game from ending with him...
Yeah, It's me up next. I'll have to read over the last post and see what I end up with.
SuperBiased... assuming the game keeps going long enough, we can add your name on at the end of the list [although give priority to enthusiastic newcomers].
Expect an update from me by the end of the week

Distant Worlds would fit the bill wouldn't it? (I haven't played it myself, it's on "the list"). I hear there's a lot of scope in what type of game it can be depending on how you want to play it?
-
Good work. And, you're not overdue at all. As long as progress doesn't stall completely, there's no rush
Nice too Actfred forging his own path.
-
Only bother to look into Sins if you're into multiplayer. Much like Sword of the Stars - Sins of Solar Empires are complete rubbish for single.
I disagree, the AI is reasonable. Not doubt a good player can run circles around it, but I had fun with single player.
-
How 'bout Homeworld?
Because there's nothing to say. It's brilliant. End of show
And with the remastered version coming out, why listen to 3MA chat about it when you could just go play straight away.
-
I like Endless Space. Although it's more of an abstract (board) game than a rich engaging simulation game.
Sins of a Solar Empire is also great, although i think Rebellion was a backwards step in the series (the earlier mini-expansions are all great though).

That new log book feature thing might track some of it?
I'll give it a look. Thanks

Is there a way to get more information on things in Ck2? For example, does the game keep a record of who was educated by who? Or why you have the option to righteously imprison somebody?
-
I'm gonna try out those tweaks and see if I can still play. We could email or Dropbox the file pretty easily. They're not that big, right?
Also we should totally post about this elsewhere on the forums so other people can follow along who normally ignore the strategy board.
Hi, did you manage to get things working? No urgent rush, but if you think it's going to take a week+, we should swap the player order around a little.
-
Yeah, I don't begrudge people listening to Carlin. He's engaging in a way I wish I could be and has a nose for stories. I just don't like his style, which I think sometimes keeps him from doing good history, and that means that I don't listen to him and can't really recommend him.
hey, would you mind making a new thread with your thoughts on various history podcasts? It seems a shame to bury information away in this thread as I'm sure others will be interested. And it helps derail this thread! You appear reasonably well qualified to give some recommendations, and sensible enough to admit that "other opinions are available"
Back on track: it's great that our succession game has it's own historian on hand
-
I think Carlin does a good job. I find his podcasts for more educational than anything that's on TV. And their entertaining - he's a good presenter. Sure, it's not as good as History of Rome, but what is Carlin also does a reasonable job of recommending books, so hopefully a few people end up reading up on topics after listening to his show.

I was thinking about the fact that there's probably a fair bit of skill differential between players, and had a idea which might help alleviate that while also giving people a fun way to contribute:
"When a player dies, he can (if he wishes) nominate a (ideally long serving) member of his characters council, from this point on as long as that character is alive and part of his successors council the player may offer advice to the new ruler about his play though but must do so fully in character as much as possible."
maybe its a silly idea, but I haven't played in a succession game before (& i think maybe I'm not alone in that) and it might take some of the pressure out of it for the newer players without it turning the more experienced players into back seat monarchs
It's an idea, and sure why not, but I don't think anybody should be under any pressure to "play well" when it's there turn. Part of the fun will be watching the ebb and flow :-) And I'm speaking of somebody who knows next to nothing about gaming the quirky mechanics, etc.

I'm sure Troy would tweet if we ask really nicely. Heck, he might even take a turn of playing a character.
I'll try and get the blog version up-to-date in a day or so.

If Mordhiem works I suspect Necromunda won't be too far behind.
I don't hold out much hope for Mordhiem. I expect it to be sort of ok, but not really worth playing given the huge number of other games, unless you are heavily invested in the setting.

Don't worry about it. I've crushed CK2 to death so many times that "winning" it doesn't really do anything for me anymore. I finished my life around 1:30 today and it went pretty well, so I think I have you in a strong position to stay the course, at least. I'll have some brief pieces of advice, if you want them, after I finish all my recap posts.
Advice from "ghosts" is perfectly fine
And, of course, choosing to destroy your father's legacy is also fine. On that note, it would be handy to know what the heir thinks of his/her predecessor on handover.
[i'm now in Copenhagen for a long weekend but I'll check in when I can and try keep relatively up-to-date with the blogs posts and forum thread.
-
could I also get added to the list?
Sure.
I've copied the first post to the blog. https://riadgameblog.wordpress.com/2015/01/22/3maidle-thumbs-forum-crusader-kings-ii-succession-game-part-i-gormongous/
You'll be able to find the RSS feed if you want to stay up to date that way.
if anybody has a wordpress account and would like to help post/edit the AAR, let me know Sorting out the picture formatting is a bit of a drag (they look a bit ugly if I don't insert them into wordpress manually).
We're off to a flying start

Here's part 10 of the story
And here's the link to the new save file
Enjoy. I'm sad to say that the other branch of the family have regained control. Stupid electoral system.
