  1. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

That's not how I remember it. Batman Forever is entertainingly camp. Batman & Robin was boring.
  2. Transistor

The bio unlock system is an elegant way of encouraging players to constantly change up their build without any balance implications. Very clever.
  3. Also, Sean can't know whether or not you're capable of entertaining the possibility that today you're the jerk. As seen in the thread for the last episode Danielle was on, some people aren't. Sounds like you might be?
  4. Life

    what have I done
  5. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

I'm bullish on Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman, I think he has chops enough to give it a good go, and I'm quite sure that the movie will be garbage.
  6. Idle Workouts

I enjoy running because the scenery changes. I do have access to parks and beachside paths, which makes a difference, but I also have a game in my headphones that mixes things up. So I managed to get over the 5k plateau! 6ks! I hope to get to 10ks by August, or even better 14ks, or ideally 14ks in 90 minutes which means that I'll qualify for the restricted categories in the City to Surf in August.
  7. Goofy Request

So, I'm running a roleplaying game for some of my friends, and I want to play them some audio of a campy news broadcast. I kind of want it in a not-Australian accent because I want it to feel alien and distant. Would anyone be interested in helping me out by reading a few lines into a microphone? Obviously this is for personal use. Edit: I have parts for a newsreader and a general. I have no preference for gender or accent.
  8. Goofy Request

Hey ho, so my recorded prop went down pretty well with my players (thanks again, Ben!), and I've got an opportunity to do one more as part of the big finish. The Big Bad of my campaign is a female comedian turned terrorist turned genocidal maniac (it turns out satire doesn't change the world fast enough, especially when you have access to self-replicating nanomachines). I would greatly appreciate if someone with a female voice/convincing falsetto could play her in a recording. Again, it'd involve reading a few lines into a microphone, the hammier the better. Is anyone willing to help? Shoot me a PM and I'll send you some lines.
  9. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

What? Video games address tough issues all the time, usually by pretending that they don't exist.
  10. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

It is such a boring reflex. I grew up with Windows, but it's easy to acknowledge that Apple make the best developer hardware in the world these days, and the Apple tax of the 90s has all but disappeared as well.
  11. Books, books, books...

The Machine of Death collection is pretty damn good. You'd think it'd wear out its welcome, but they ran through the obvious permutations early on with what were clearly the best stories with that particular theme. A sizable chunk of the better stories don't have any predictions in them whatsoever, and are about dealing with the questions raised by the existence of a machine that tells you how you will die, with unerring accuracy.
  12. You should have told her to send in her questions to questions@idlethumbs.net.
  13. Other podcasts

I don't really know Giant Bomb but I understand he's moving back to New York. He isn't leaving Giant Bomb the company, and will probably start up a new podcast like Patrick Klepek did.
  14. Life

It's not really, but it's a symptom. American toilets clog easier because they have a narrower pipe; Australian toilets have a much larger pipe because all the water pressure comes from the cistern instead of the bowl. Very difficult to clog, and easier to have a 'half-flush' mechanism, but they get dirtier in the bowl. I suspect this is mostly what you're used to, though, and not a question of clear superiority why am I talking about toilets again
  15. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

They only make games so people will buy their hardware. That's why they don't make games for other people's hardware. They could do it, so, so easily, if they were a games company. They're not. They just happen to be a hardware company that's pretty good at making games.
  16. Life

I'm just blown away by the idea that you can clog toilets, but then I remember seeing American toilets and how they're just full of water. Australian toilets have water just at the bottom, so they clog much less frequently but it's more likely that your leavings won't get carried why am I telling internet strangers about my toilet
  17. Licensed Novel of Games

So long as the White House features, this sounds like the best way to adapt Zork.
  18. Not necessarily; what they'll probably do instead is if they've got enough policies that aren't connecting with the various Gamer voters, they'll introduce new policies targeted at that category. American politics is horrifying even after you get past the gerrymandering and the institutionalised corruption.
  19. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

The Himalayas aren't remote. There's a tourist racket up Everest. And that's kind of the problem - they picked the Himalayas because they needed somewhere cool and different after Far Cry 3's island chain, and they cleared off all the actual people who live there and who have real identities so they can have a video game. It'd be like if they set a video game in Compton except there's only one gang there, they're all white, and the player's the only one that's allowed to fight back.
  20. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

Also indicated by how gross they've made her design in Smash Bros. Team Ninja didn't do that.
  21. The actor who played Wilson is named Earl Hindman. The mystery is solved.
  22. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

Here's what an Indian friend of mine had to say on the Far Cry 4 cover.
  23. Plug your shit

Your appeal to TPB pirates reminded me of when Caravel Games appealed to piracy rings to stop distributing the first commercial DROD release. The Pirate Bay told us to fuck off, but there was one group that thought it was pretty cool that our "free" "demo" contained the level editor and the ability to import fan-created levels without restriction and agreed to not distribute the paid version. Caravel initially did that because it was an open-source release that had content sold commercially bolted on, but we found that our free-to-play version had an unusual upside: cash-poor players could participate in the community and build levels and contribute, and they would save up and buy the game as an expression of belonging. also fuck Abbott amirite
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

When I argue, I generally focus on what I think I can learn from the other person. If I don't think I'm going to get anything from a particular point, I abandon it with relish, and usually people on the Internet don't notice. If it comes up, I'll usually say I don't think it's worth arguing over.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

Also it's not like I'm going to learn anything from the discussion, which by definition requires the other person in the argument to actually respond to points raised. ANYWAY I saw 52 Tuesdays, which is this arresting movie about a teenage girl whose mother comes out as trans. He asks her daughter to live with her father during that period, and they end up negotiating to spend time together every Tuesday. It's an excellent movie about stress and coping and change - obviously the transition is an important part of the movie, but in a lesser film that'd be the point of the movie, and 52 Tuesdays aims higher.
