  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This is incredible stuff. So, so good. I don't know how these "gamers" managed to be so outplayed.
  2. What do you think made you who you are today?

Either mental illness or the circumstances of my birth. Unfortunately most of the parts of my personality built up over time, with lots of little moments. If I had to pick the one thing that had the most influence, it would be one of those two.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I am really hoping Bob Chipman can find a good home somewhere else - maybe Badass Digest? He's probably smart enough to write for Badass Digest. Anyway he's pretty much the only thing worth watching on the Escapist.
  4. Non-video games

I've got some experience with running role-playing games, which are much the same principle except one person already knows the solution. I also have a copy of How To Host A Murder that I bought a few years ago, and now I have enough friends for a dinner party, but they're all experienced enough that the occasionally wobbly nature of the writing will spoil the night. Whatcha need?
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

I don't want to make any more posts outside of this subforum to preserve my 888 post count coming on the heels of a joke about someone being 88% white to fit demographic data.
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

Posts like this is why I read Slacktivist.
  7. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It helps that I present as clearly male on Twitter (even more so now than when I had a somewhat androgynous avatar), but the most that happened when I contributed my despair to the #GameGate tag is a bunch of favourites from friends. The infuriating thing is that if they actually cared about journalistic ethics, the way to proceed would be to find journalists who clearly cared about it and ask who with money they have to pressure to get them to stop trying to influence journalists with free shit.
  8. Life

I never get tired of this joke.
  9. Feminism

They seem to believe that rape is inevitable, which is revealing, I think.
  10. You now have to be independent to create an antipope Tweaked various religious events Added Jewish buildings That's an interesting priority there guys
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This is, I think, spot on: http://ellaguro.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/on-gamers-and-identity.html
  12. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

    I've gone on the record in the past as liking the first half of the plot;
  13. Oculus rift

Maybe she lives in a fractal flat? I do enjoy how Carmack comes out and goes, 'fuck you all, I'm dropping three minutes of mobile phone OS architecture on your arses'.
  14. He's supposed to be half-Indian in a way that makes him look mostly white. Also, I was already that guy because my friend Shivam, who actually comes from that part of the world, brought it up first. He's furious about the box art. Cultural appropriation and desecration in the name of painting the charismatic villain as a 'bad guy'. Edit: wait, this isn't the Far Cry thread
  15. Feminism

So the latest tactic the 4chan babies have come up with is #NotYourShield - which is a hashtag they're using to claim they are various marginalised groups that journalists are using as a 'shield' to cover for their corruption.
  16. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think a cliffhanger ending is probably a lesser sin than what they did because at least it's an explicit promise for resolution.
  17. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I stuck with it to fully unlock the battle system, and was very excited to see the story coming to a head and building to a conclusion and then it fucking didn't and I'm still mad about it years later
  18. Feminism

I am enjoying the prospect of internet belligerents filing FOIA requests on cases currently in progress, delivering not only evidence of harassment to the police, but a postal address.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I knew I'd get into trouble by saying 'a book', so let me clarify that the books I'm thinking of are Teaching Your Child The Language Of Social Success, which describes unspoken communication rules like comfort zones, and Miss Manners' Guide To Etiquette, which gives a pretty good grounding in what etiquette is actually about and is also really, really funny. Neither book is about wearing a mask, like The Game would advise; they're about ensuring that you communicate your intentions clearly, and that you keep in mind how the other person might be feeling and try not to antagonise them accidentally. I feel like they're unobjectionable life lessons.
  20. This is mentioned in Women Have Always Fought, by the way.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Eh, fair enough. You seem to be better socialised than 4channers, at least, so I can't fault you too much. So Slacktivist posted links explaining this whole mess. Slacktivist is an evangelical blog. #Gamergate has spread so far, and yet it remains so unconvincing.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This seems like an exercise designed to select people who have someplace better to be and are a little weirded out by your questions, particularly if you go in with the attitude that they have to prove they are worth the privilege of having a conversation with you. There might be some projecting going on here, clyde. I've had a lot of luck striking up random conversations in queues. Most people appreciate the distraction, and you've already got something in common.
  23. The subreddit that's been fawning over the most recent batch of leaked private celebrity photos donated a great deal of money to prostrate cancer research. At this point 'donate a lot of money to prove we're not terrible' is part of the Internet's playbook. There appears to be a belief in America that donating large sums of money to charity says something about the values of the person doing it, and that's never really been true.
