Not really. The PvP side isn't nearly as robust as GW1's. There are individual matches and external tournaments, but nothing in between. (It seems like they want to implement SC2-style leagues, instead.) On the other hand, GW1 wasn't capable of doing anything like WvW, either, so swings and roundabouts.

That reminds me: my Numenera game could do with some new players. We've lost one player, and I think I can handle a fifth player without it descending into chaos, so if there's more than one player who wants to play, that'd be good.

It seems like they deliberately tried to make it difficult because they determined that some people who were getting full con passes weren't going the entire con. I have my reservations about PAX (I won't be going to PAX Prime again), but in terms of Australian conventions it's either PAX Aus, which at least pays lip service to being a safe space, or Supanova, who invited Adam Baldwin as the guest of honour this year and told the people who were upset that they wanted to be inclusive and the people trying to exclude Adam Baldwin and his fans weren't welcome. (I had stronger reservations last year, and counted on a friend of mine who had signed up to be an Enforcer to judge how skeevy PAX Aus was. Turns out she's volunteering at Supanova as well, even after the Adam Baldwin thing.)

Honestly the animation reuse annoys the hell out of me because animation plays such a big part in bringing a character to life. I think one of the reasons why The Secret World works as well as it does, despite the goofy way that your character never talks and everyone else monologues at you, is that all of those monologues have custom animation. People do things in the environment. It's so weirdly wooden to see two characters stand there and gesture at each other.

Latest news: Eve Ensler, writer of The Vagina Monologues, was asked to consult on the film to ensure the emotional reality of sex slavery translated properly into a world where someone plays the guitar while tethered to the top of a car chase. Also, main non-Max hero is named Furiosa, continuing the Mad Max theme of characters having incredibly silly names that impossibly somehow work. I think it also shores up for me why the Mad Max game being developed by Avalanche can't help but feel like all those Western Silent Hill games; Mad Max is Australian in a way that Americans can appreciate but cannot reproduce. (I am fully prepared to eat crow if this turns out to be not true, but the idea of Max being the central character and having his own goals feels completely alien to Mad Max.)
