  1. Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel

Quick question for those who played the original NP. Am I remembering correctly that you used to be able to get both ship speed & ship distance modifiers? I seem to remember end games where the journey's went from taking 4-5 hours to 40-50 minutes. It was absolutely horrific to be part of, but damn if it didn't solve late game stagnation.
  2. anime

Anyone watching Aku no Hana? Had my doubt's about the Rotoscoping initially, but it's been used to really good effect so far with some of the expressions on the characters face's genuinely creeping me out a bit. I'm not sure how much this is intentional and how much because it actually steps into uncanny valley territory at times, showing something that doesn't feel like a abstraction of a human or a real human.
  3. Life

I wonder if a lot of the popularity of diets comes because they simply give people structure to build a routine around, and that people have success because it's often easier to follow a set of arbitrary rules than to control your own desires. I think certainly some of the limitations I've put upon myself when drinking fall into this category. I think in the end most people understand a balanced diet with reasonable portions is good for them, but that most people struggle to keep to it. Something that I don't think is helped by takeaways and ready meals, which often bulk up their size to give the impression of value. The other observation I have is that making time to cook for myself and to make proper meals from scratch has helped me a lot with eating healthily, because actually seeing all the ingredients in a bowl instead of a list of things on a packet is something I process mentally a lot better. Which in Zeus's defence is something vegan diets tend to be quite good at, because they normally emphasise fresh goods, and preparing meals yourself.
  4. Life

Certainly the temptation to drink is always higher in social situations so I get how Tegan could feel pressured, and that sort of stuff has always been worse for me in a new social environments. It took me 17 years to come to my current position towards alcohol and I'm still unsure about whether I'm doing the right thing. In the end I decided that I have to be very careful around it, not because it effects me badly but because it doesn't. This makes it dangerously easy to drink more than I should. It doesn't matter that I don't get hangovers if I'm pickling my liver because of how much I drink. In the end I've found it easiest to just take that temptation off the table. I leave my credit card at home, and take just enough cash for a few drinks (& a taxi home if needed).
  5. anime

I like the Ganmen he seems such a happy fellow but the Eva is definitely the more technically impressive
  6. Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel

would it be possible for us to get a final warning before go-time? (once everyone's picked a name)
  7. anime

I think I need to give it a 2nd watch, but there are a couple of things I think I can comment on currently.
  8. anime

I had some weird issues with opening it myself. When I first opened the file last night to check whether the download had worked it was fine, but this morning VLC stubbornly refused to open it. The error that came up showed the file as having a much longer name than windows was showing, so if there's some weird issue with the name of the file that could explain why its not copying for you (perhaps try a rename?). In the end I got it to play by opening it within my vuze client (frankly i have no idea why that worked but I'm not complaining).
  9. anime

Damn fansubs file sizes have got huge! Not sure how I feel about the HD encodes of stuff you get nowadays.10 years ago when I first started watching anime more, small file size meant if you liked what you saw you had a damn good reason to try and find a legitimate version of something. Now I'm not so sure the incentive is there. Still I'm really glad anime and manga have a strong fansub culture around them, and i think it's a healthy thing for the industry. It's really has given me access to shows and given me awareness of some creators that in some cases never got a European English language release even years after their début in Japan.
  10. Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel

I think we need 2 more people for a third group at the moment (although idk if we have anyone among us atm who has a premium member ship & could host it). Currently these are the people how have said they are interested. 1. illeria 2. cleinhun 3. niyeaux 4. chajusong 5. Ross 6. Codicier
  11. anime

Looking forward to part Rebuild of Eva 3.0, Gainax really seem to be taking their time and justifying the decision to do a remake. In the mean time I'm going to try to find and read re-take (can anyone suggest a non virus ridden location where i can find a download of it?) while I wait for a fan sub to put out 3.0 (shouldn't be long now).
  12. Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel

IF my memory of the system is correct Toblix we probably need 1 premium player to host each game, & then non premium players will be able to join his privately created game
  13. Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel

Add me to the list for the 3rd Game please Also does anyone know if there's any use for/way to transfer any spare space bucks we had for the original Neptune's Pride? or is NP2 a completely separate system?
  14. anime

I had no idea that Michiko and Fujiko had the same director, but now you mention it I realise its pretty much been staring me in the face! and apparently she worked on Samurai Champloo as well which makes alot of sense.
  15. SimCity: The City Simulator

I think you both hit on some of the stuff that bothers me about it. Prob no1 (as I think Thrik implies) is: Its just better. Pretty much every other building has a downside, high initial cost high maintaince, high power, whatever. This? Basically a "I WIN" button with Nissan written across it. It's not just a free module that makes your car go faster, it makes it defy physics all together, and yes(just as Gormongos says) it does annoy that the first thing after a launch they do is not to address balance issues but add something that basically sounds like it ignores the games balance all together.
  16. SimCity: The City Simulator

Some buildings do have made up names in English. Idk it's just something that just sets all sorts of warning light's off for me, and which i just don't feel comfortable with at all. I suppose I really don't consume much advertising, because until now the games I play have been relatively free of it, I've been lucky to have the totally advertising free BBC radio and TV stations, and a decent public Library system for when I do want other media. For me perhaps more than anything else its a instinctual recoil against the concept and it's future implications. I can't wholly rationalise it and I know I'm overreacting but it just feels wrong.
  17. SimCity: The City Simulator

It just a immersion breaker for me, I like that SimCity is a abstraction of the real world, that the Sims speak Simlish not English, and this seems like a horribly horribly slippery slope to start down.
  18. SimCity: The City Simulator

Oh gawd fecking darn it. http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/04/02/simcity-dlc-nissan-leaf/ if only this came one day earlier I might have actually found it funny, but now its just depressing.
  19. ThumbCity

I tend to agree, there's a great game buried in here certainly but as many people have already said they basically had what amounts to the archetypal bad MMO launch. Now we have a playerbase which is fragmented and disillusioned, and game mechanics which are in some cases not very readable and in others obviously broke. MMO's don't tend to recover from this unless they go free to play. Which ain't a option here. That said I'm still enjoying popping onto my city every now or then & trying to fix that incredibly broken little plot of land. Side Note: SimGod hates education, My university has now been destroyed 4 times by natural disasters. Once by a tornado, once by a meteor shower, once by a giant monster & then this morning by a earthquake. /sigh
  20. ThumbCity

you may say your looks stupid, but that stupidity is skin deep. In terms of actual stupidity mine has a beauty all of its own, i've got over 1 million simoleans worth of buildings turned off because i boomed to much and overreached >_<.
  21. SimCity: The City Simulator

We have a small thumbs region up & going on North America East 4 atm. If you pop onto the Thumbcity thread on the multiplayer section of forums i'm sure someone can get you a invite to the region if you care to join us
  22. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Anyone else read A Drifting Life by Yoshihiro Tatsumi? I've just finished it and although I haven't quite finished processing why i like it fully, I know that I'm probably return to it again and again. It's got a really compelling combination of strong autobiographic storytelling, forensic examination of a very specific period in the Manga industry's history, and a very humane look at the creative process.
  23. ThumbCity

I work at home currently & I've been basically leaving SimCity running at the slowest speed while i'm working as a kinda interactive screen saver, so i should be online quite a lot. I managed to get a city nicely bubbling away, and then fell prey to the foolish allure of building a university and a few tourist attractions in my lunch break, before going into a bit of a death spiral. I managed to turn it around in a hectic evening session, however i have quite a few services turned off, so if someone needs anything let me know and i'll see if i can nip on & switch back on some extra capicity for them to take advantage of. That said I've got a "city not processing correctly" message so who knows what state it will be in
  24. ThumbCity

I think it could indeed be increased player limit's, because it went from most servers full to most servers open, and this comes on a day with a patch & rolling restarts.
  25. ThumbCity

Wooo i managed to get onto north america east this morning,
