PING PONG > all. Sidenote: does anyone know if Watanabe has ever done anything sports related? A lot of the stuff I like about Ping Pong (the music, the framing etc) is stuff Watanabe has always been pretty good at, plus he's always had a great knack for showing characters with very fluid movements. Would be great to see him do something like perhaps football(soccer) or maybe basketball. I know the was a baseball episode in Samurai Champloo but that doesn't count really.

it then also gets super overindulgent, but then again really there is pretty no one else editing or composing a show's visuals in quite the way SHAFT do atm. I personally do think it's anywhere near the same class as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei for instance, but there's worse ways to kill time certainly. My theory on these is because this kind of storytelling by rote requires precisely Zero energy to consume, its basically the frozen food of anime.
  3. Cartoons!

IIRC Wakfu (which is what tegans link seems to be pointing to when i hover over it) is french It probably is in English since they explicitly ran a kickstarter at the beginning of the year to get it dubbed https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1836563008/wakfu-the-animated-series

Grayson Evans suggestion of returning to the classics is never a bad idea tbh. Also Maybe following Twigs footsteps & try out Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi if you haven't already. I tend to assume Tegan>All when it comes to manga & anime subculture and history reference knowledge, so maybe you'd pick up on some stuff in there which might not be as obvious to me (plus it's just generally fun & fast paced) Of the current crop http://www.crunchyroll.com/monthly-girls-nozaki-kun Is certainly the easiest to dip into.
  5. Doctor me up, Thumbs

Ok after a couple of days trying to paint again I'm suffering from what I call "Artists Claw", I grip my brush waaaay to strongly and even with doing stretches for the tendons in my hand every 40mins or so after a full day of brush work my hands are often aches as all heck, (particularly my thumbs). So do any fellow readers have any tips or tricks for avoiding this?
  6. Cartoons!

Obviously it's in the ancient past for most of the readers on this thread but I've just watched the 1st season of Avatar and the beginning of s2. I've heard a lot of praise heaped on it, but I must admit my 1st impressions were mixed to say the least. I mean I know we are supposed to set the bar low with anything made for TV but honestly some of the early animation just seemed clunky & full of shortcuts. It's not that the series has nothing to speak for it, the character dialog and development of the main trio could be excellent at times and uncle & Zukko are pretty fun but the the things just seemed to be stretched much more than the old 'fight of the week' format. Then we have the finale, now while it's not quite 'girlfriend in the refrigerator' territory the way the northern water princess' death was treated by the series was pretty damn annoying, seemingly primarily played to make the death of the chief villain by the spirit seem 'justified' and then immediately forgotten by the main trio and in particular by Sokka. There's this scene in the 1st episode of s2 which really sums it up, the gran old master says he's going to give them all something to remind them all that's happened in the north when it come Sokka the one who's supposedly connection with someone who has just died what happens, nothing but a cheap pun. He doesn't even bat a eye when going through the 'cave of two lovers' a few episodes later. I mean FFS not only do you have a prime chance to really explore grief etc and it just gets utterly ignored, but it makes the whole sacrifice seem like it was brushed under the carpet.
  7. anime

I'd have loved to try the game, but I just don't buy dedicated game systems, my game PC is my work PC & my ipad my way of working when away from home and those are what I play on. (Which reminds me I really should finish Ghost Trick on iOS) Will have to check which ones they had streaming on crunchyroll, think it was P4:The Animation
  8. Blue make some really nice quality microphones, the snowball is their entry level product and I've generally heard nothing but good things about it. If you really want to splash you can do what I did & get a Yeti, although I can really only justify that because I spend a lot of time dictating. http://www.bluemic.com/snowball/ http://www.bluemic.com/yeti/ Edit: whoops missed the whole part about you wanting a clip on mic
  9. anime

I remember the 1st two episodes of the Original Black lagoon feeling like a excellent self contained action story, there's just something about Rock's look of Schadenfreude when his plan comes together which was just near perfect.
  10. anime

I'm surprised to hear Black Lagoon doesn't hold up, do you mean technically? Or in terms of it's story & tone feeling dated?& while I remember it, can my fellow readers advise me whether it's worth watching the persona series considering I have exactly 0 time spent with the franchise?
  11. anime

I remember getting bored & giving up on E7:Ao the arts pretty sure, but really the story is kinda terrible. I really quite enjoyed the original & even the alternate timeline retelling) but for some reason this just doesn't work for me. On a brighter note I've enjoyed pretty much everything about Nozaki-kun's so far. I really like the way it plays with it's 'generic art style' choice, and it has a great sense for the absurdity on many anime & manga tropes.
  12. Despite being kinda silly honestly this made me smile Leigh is kinda great
  13. Sports

The whole US idea of a 'sports franchise', of teams suddenly moving city or appearing from nowhere feels deeply strange to me, Has US sport always been this way? Or was it ever a more organic thing?
  14. Ladies & gentlemen I present to you a demonstration of why you should clean your pc's air filter regularly! I haven't cleaned my PC since I rebuilt it in May, but today the fans started to make weird noises so I opened up the case to find out why...... The filters have evidently been doing their job(perhaps a bit too well) because the rest of the case was pretty clean
  15. anime

Without going into it to much It does develop a proper plot a bit later (which you will then realise was foreshadowed quite a bit)
  16. Baby Animal Gif Emergency Rations

https://vine.co/v/ME16mjEaPEY sidenote: is there a way to get a Vine to show up like a you tube video would?
  17. What both jedi & johncole say pretty much matches up with my own expectations regarding what steps to take. I use chrome atm so sadly NoScripts not a option & I've heard Adblock s developed into a bit of a resource hog over the years, so I had a quick Google for alternatives. do either of you or anyone else have any experience with ublock? It seems to be positioned as a low footprint alternative to adblock but i don't know anyone who's actually used it so if you or any other thumb has any first-hand knowledge of that it would be groovy, but until then I'll just hope a combination of switching off the scripts off in chrome and the Avira Browser Security extension should keep me relatively safe. Actually that remind me, I'm actually pretty happy with Avira so far, it managed to find a couple of thing MS:SE missed and which neither Malwarebytes or Spybot S&D found (minor ones but still) .
  18. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

I was wondering if there is a general interactive fiction thread? I've just finished playing Christine Love's Dont Take it Personally Babe, & Analogue a Hate Story i've managed to find the thread on analogue but there doesn't seem to be a more general thread for discussing them as a whole. I know there's a twine thread but obviously that's a particular method rather than IF in general
  19. Feminism

What she did or did not do, feels almost irrelevant to me. If her ex genuinely thought this was a scandal that needed to be brought to light, contacting the editorial teams of the publishers concerned would have been the way to go about it. Not this lynch mob. I mean as un-religious as I am my immediate though was basically that old bible quote, 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone' The worlds too full of faux righteousness, everyone's had sometime in their life which if they look back on they wouldn't be proud of.
  20. After the close call of almost getting my pc infected by one of my regular Webcomic sites I've been thinking that in a way they are comparatively one of vulnerable site I visit. Specifically it's the habit many of them share of using ad banners to generate revenue that worries me, iirc banner ads have long been a prime way to spread viruses. That coupled by the fact they are often run by tech amateurs. So I've been thinking would a RSS app on my ipad be any safer than visiting the sites themselves?
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

After a evening full of hearing and reading about people being generally pretty horrible to each other Raising Arizona has cheered me up immensely. I don't have much to say atm apart from I recommend it to anyone who wants a little bit of lighthearted optimism in their day without feeling they have to dumb down to much, I'm not sure exactly how the coens made such a smart physical comedy, but I sure am glad they did. Bonus yodelling
  22. This poped up on my twitter timeline & seems kinda awesome http://tamashii.jp/special/chogokin/
  23. This was kinda my viewpoint, I remember for a while the consensus of option was MS SE wasn't a bad piece of software, but I think though in view of the fact stuff was clearly getting through I'm going to have to review it. I liked that it was so unobtrusive but really if it's detection rates have slipped as much as those tests suggest I don't think I can keep using it. Currently installing Avira antivirus which seemed to be the the top performing of the free antivirus overall, although it seems Avast is doing quite well with its latest update too so might try that out when I'm next asked to do a health check on my parents pc. On that subject it worries me occasionally how easy it remains for a PC to get infected, if I'm relatively tech savy but still run into these problems then my parents who lack that knowledge (and whom I suspect ignore my advice to run a quick scan daily) seems far more vulnerable.
  24. After getting my PC up & running again & having made a new restore point and backup I popped online to read a few articles & catch up on my regular web comics just to reassure myself the system was stable. unfortunately one of the sites has obviously become infested with malware. Whether this was specifically designed to take advantage of people who hadn't yet applied the big august pack of windows updates or a unlucky coincidence idk, but it was still annoying. MS Sec essentials caught one bit trying to install itself, but it wasn't untill I had rebooted in safe mode and had run Malwarebytes, and Spybot S&D that I got rid of 5-6 other little lurkers. I was wondering what antivirus/anti malware program's everyone's running these days? My habit is to run a quick MS scan daily and a full scan with that & Malwarebytes weekly, along with a monthly Spybot check, but evidently stuff can still slip through.

Oops your right, not sure why I thought it was David (guess that's what happens when you make a post at 2 at night). Have you got any suggestions on where I could go apart from Common Sense (which I'll have a look into)?
