Terror in Resonance/Zankyo no Terror was probably the most disappointing series of last season for me. It felt just completely devoid of anything original, and worst of all the plot felt like a mundane take on Death Note or any other "Genius criminal V's Genius cop" show. It's discouraging seeing Watanabe outputting such bland stuff again, i don't recognise the director who made Bebop, or Kids on the Slope in any of his output in the last year or so I wonder if I'd hate FMP if i watched it now, I remember finding it sort of adorably silly at the time but thinking now about it i suspect the 2014 me would find it insufferable.
  2. man its sad going back to a old piece of software you used years back and finding it's become a bloated peice of ad infested trash, but sadly that seems to have been the route utorrent has took.
  3. Makin' a Website

I went through setting up a small site (for a forum) a while back & thrik offered this advice regarding hosting which I'll post here Regarding the 'sensitive' nature of your content and your desire to work under a alias.Have you tried approaching any of the more prominent web comics creators who do 'erotic' side projects for advice on this all? People like Phil Foglio (Girl Genius) Josh Lesnick (Girly) or Spike Trotman (Templar Arizona). The later in particular is probably worth looking into if you're not already familiar with her work. I'm sure there's more than just those three they are just the only creators I know do some erotic who are on my reading list (apart from the blessed Trudy Cooper of Oglaf) Finally I know Hower lets you hide who the domain is registered to so if that's something you're after its another tick in its favour.

I'll try to elaborate a bit on why I think that but obviously as with any such speculation it's a personal reaction to certain things (which obviously resonates more with me because those things seemed significant to me).

The implication I'm getting, partly from the way the world's developed, and partly from (the often notoriously misleading)credits is actually a bit different (Speculation below)

So i just watched the 1st episode of Log Horizon S2 and so far any fears seem unfounded. In fact if anything i'd say in a few ways they have made a couple of really interesting steps forward. Firstly i loved the way the quick cut's to the memories of the "real world" were done in a more high fidelity art style than the rest of the episode (i just hope they don't overuse it). I really appreciated that they were reinforcing the idea that the "generic fantasy" look of the log horizon world is a aesthetic choice not a budgetary constraint, it's sort of like when i video game does the whole Low Poly, or Pixel art thing. That said although the style is the same, the animation has been refined in nice subtle ways with what like slightly less flat colour on the characters, and smoother movement (that said it's quality does vary hugely and it's background characters remain adorably wonky). Yeah... You could say many things about Kill La Kill but boring was rarely one of them It feels like Trigger are on autopilot for this one. The fact they didn't even use their own Logo but just a generic version of their name in both title and end credits felt like a deliberate choice to separate this from a true trigger production. I sort of wonder if they are doing a Edward Norton style thing of doing one project for themselves followed by one for the back account, but considering how outrageously successful Kill La Kill felt I'm not sure why their coffers aren't overflowing atm, and even then I'm not sure why they would choose to do this over trying to find a more original premise than this.
  7. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

I've just started working my way through Tezuka's Budda, really enjoying it so far. I was wondering if anyone here had read both it & (the non manga) Bone by Jeff Smith because I'm feeling like Smith is taking some incredibly strong que's from some of the compositions and ideas in budda.

Jesus wept, I Googled this and all i can think is how in gods name does such a thing exist. I sincerely hope they don't mess up Log Horizon part of its charm early on was that it didn't do anything to overtly flashy. My worry now is that if it was successful enough to get a second season that means increased budget & ever escalating stakes
  9. Alien Isolation - The nightmare of Milky Joe

quick question more related to the whole franchise than the game specifically: what colour do people consider a Alien to be? I know the canonical answer but I'm wondering about the perception, a lot of the people I've talked to give a answer which seems to be informed as much by the lighting of the sets and the choices in the graphic design as the monster itself.

It's a SHAFT animation, it would be more of a spoiler if it didn't contain at least one of scene that implying something weirdly sexual (but is all the same impeccably animated).
  11. I endorse the above statement as 100% factually correct
  12. We need to go further back to the very root of modern language and find what word truly captures what a window really is, a Portal through which we see the world, a Aperture.

weird question but: does anyone have any suggestions for good but not hugely expensive (or heavy) bookends? I'm thinking of putting up a big set of 238cm long shelves and I want to break them up a little so it's a little easier to create sections, and to add and remove books in general. Because I have quite a few graphic novels and hardbacks I'm not sure traditional L shaped bookends will do the job. What I ideally want (but can't find anywhere) is the same sort of clamp on section dividers my library used to do but no one seems to do them these days and all I seem to be able to find is a flimsy clip on plastic thing. If all else fails I'm going to get some nice looking shelf brackets and put them upside down on top of the shelves, but this has the obvious disadvantage of being very inflexible once they are screwed into the wall.

  15. Webcomics

I think in my case i think it's because I started reading Cucumber quest & Nimona at pretty much the same time after you & Tanukitsune mentioned them in the comics thread Overtime I must have forgot who recommended what & assumed it was because your avatar is a Lumberjane it MUST have been you who recommended Noelle Stevenson stuff.

You could try The Lion and the Unicorn: Gladstone vs Disraeli. I read this book a while back and although its a bit earlier than the sort of time period you mentioned I found it to be a enjoyable snapshot of two of the founding fathers of British politics.

I do occasionally get a little frustrated when there's a anime which seems to do a lot well, appears to be reasonable popular & then disappears off the face of the earth. I guess sometimes it's as you say, that a series is produced to capitalise on the Popularity of a manga when the manga itself hasn't yet concluded its story, but other times there's just no clear reason why
  18. Webcomics

I only found about Nimona a few weeks back when Tegan mentioned it but I'm still on tenterhooks about its imminent conclusion in a way that I wouldn't have expected. It's one of the few Webcomics I've read which I really feel there is almost no bloat to it. Even when it wasn't advancing the plot it was building character.

I don't think its that well known it's just it kinda fits perfectly with the sort of thing you describe here It certainly doesn't do anything particularly original but it's strongest point is that the 'sport' it picks is quite unique and so as a viewer your growing understanding mirrors that of the protagonists. It's on CR so if you need something to see you through the transition between seasons watch a couple of episodes and let us know if you like/dislike it.

I'm normally fairly nocturnal anyway but the idea of falling asleep and waking up finding Scotland possibly independent thanks to the referendum isn't helping. I'm more excited/nervous than I expected I think It's a mix of pure curiosity, the fact my family has very strong roots there, & the the sheer historic potential.

It's conceivable FU1 might actually be something Westminster is stupid enough to go through with out of sheer spite, because they could hide most of the consequences of their inflexibility through some creative accounting. FU2 however.... Well FU2 depends entirely on the the country wanting to say FU staying in the EU, and i think there's a genuine danger of a EU exit if we have a referendum on it. The government has done a appalling job getting across to people how much EU funding help in some of the most deprived areas of the country. That said if the big Transatlantic trade deal goes ahead i think id rather be out of the EU (honestly that whole thing feels like a open goal for the leftwing parties if only they had the guts to take it on).

Hmmm I think you have a point about the hard work thing to a extent, it was definitely a big part of Peco's arc, & he was the notional 'winner' but for Smile, Kazuma, and Kong it's was to one extent or another their eventual rejection of the concept of 'working to win' that defined their stories for me. I guess perhaps as you sorta implied there may be was something about the kind of competition you get in individual vs team sports which makes it not quite fit within the typical template of a sports anime. Also would Chihayafuru fit in that particular sub genre? (If you've seen that one)

Wales had even more trouble recovering from the gutting of its industrial economy by Thatcher than Scotland did in many ways, however it's never had the same call for nationalism in the same way that Scotland has simply because it's been part of the union for far longer than Scotland has. That and we never had a issue like the Poll Tax (a very regressive tax that was tested out on Scotland by Thatcher) to make stark what many people feel to a certain extent, that London is too powerful. Simply put Merus I'd say it's not the English looking down on the welsh, more of London looking down on everyone. Regardless of the result I think (& hope)we are moving towards a more federalist Uk with far stronger regional devolution. Sidenote: I bet David Cameron is REALLY regretting the idea of moving devo max ( a proposed halfway solution actually favoured by the majority of the public)off the ballot

I totally get where you're comming from but Ping Pong is one of those series I just fell head over heels for. I mean Ping Pongs animation is superb but I wouldn't love it like I do if it didn't do such a great job for me with its character building. There's a hundred small things which just work amazingly well for me, moments after moment clicking perfectly into place. It could be just be something about the way characters name is used, like how Smile's nickname turns out to be perfect for him, or the exact emphasis that his coach put into each word when he address him as 'Mr Tsukimoto'. It's small things done really really well, time after time. Equally when it comes to the big things they had the balls to never give more than a glimpse of the first game of the grand final the whole series has been building to. Honestly I think this is one where we may have to agree to disagree, because I think the feel goodishness of the final episode was pretty much unparalleled for me (though I will admit a lot of that comes from the fact that my relationship with one of my closest best friends has a lot in common with the two leads), and throughout it pretty much every single major character got a satisfying end to their story arc (regardless of whether they were a antagonist or protagonist. All in all it's weirdly great to think that sport anime as a sub genre must be going through a sort of mini resurgence if it can produce two shows in quick succession which people have such strong positive feelings towards

I like Ping Pong more than all but a few other shows (of any genre) but there we go. Stil will have to give Haikyu a go one evening, they've got it on crunchyroll right?
