  1. Terminal7 11: Your Parade of Imbeciles The release of Double Time sees the Spin Cycle come to a close. Filled with powerful but time-consuming double events, will these prove to be a lucky find for the runner or much needed corporate shuffle for the faceless bureaucracies? Nels & Jesse find out and you should come along! 2. Terminal7 10: GDC 2014 Daily Casts Spectacular!

Gintechy is a cutting edge distillery that focuses on using filtering their gin through off-planet soft stone harvested from the moon. Best G&T you'll ever have! (Also Jinteki)
  3. Terminal7 10: GDC 2014 Daily Casts Spectacular!

Oh man, I completely forgot about that! Gah, I need to read Neuromancer again (I did catch your username though). Thanks! As an intense Jinteki loyalist, I can't really give a fair answer. But given how much of a different the HB one can make, it's fascinating either way. Unlike the Plugged-In ones, I'm happy with either Chronos identity. But yeah, we were part of Plugged-In, I think Chronos is just Europe. So do us proud, motherland! Hmmm ... Weyland or H-B Big ICE is usually pretty straightforward. Get money, rez huge ICE, score agendas. On the runner side, Big Rig Shaper is certainly straightforward, but the tricky bit is it's kinda slow, which makes it a bit harder to use in a tournament setting. But Shaper packing 3 Inside Jobs or something similar can do a lot to boost speed and people tend not to expect it.
  4. As an aside, I'm just going to say that we were all seriously impressed and think it's god damn rad that anyone who heard the genuinely unintentional unbleeped name of the game didn't spoil it. Y'all are the coolest. (And in case anyone hadn't seen it, no more spoilage is possible! http://www.firewatchgame.com)
  5. Terminal7 9: The Bush Shaking with Guns Fear & Loathing finds Nels & Jesse standing at the door of the Geostrategic Research & Neothermal Development Laboratories. The newest data pack in the Spin Cycle is discussed, along with some of our favourite but less commonly seen Neutral cards. And an exciting announcement about a new event happening at the end of May in Terminal City (literally and figuratively) awaits in the twilight of this episode. 6. Terminal7 8: Eventually Your Breathing Will Stop Our first meat-space guest, Klei and BioShock: Infinite designer Seth Rosen joins Nels and Jesse to talk about tips for newcomers. With the complexity of a game like Netrunner, learning how to play is just one step down a long cyberroad to victory. But perhaps Seth will help folks, new and veteran alike, get a little further down that path. 7. Terminal7 8: Eventually Your Breathing Will Stop

Yeah, as teaching decks, I'd just go straight with that's in the box. But I think a Shaper + Weyland matchup is better than Shaper + Jinteki. Core Shaper is all big rig and Core Weyland is mostly big ICE. I initially tried to minimize how much traces would come into play by making the core matchup Shaper + H-B, but I found the bioroid click through subroutines thing was more confusing than the traces. You could just play through the first however many turns or play to 5 points instead of 7 or something if it's a time issue.
  8. Idle Thumbs 147: The Titan Falls

Was it? A bunch of places seem to say it was the Crystal Dynamics engine and the open logo crawl for DX: HR doesn't have Unreal in it anywhere, which I'm pretty sure is basically unavoidable if you've licensed Unreal. But Rocksteady was able to bend Unreal into do big, dynamically lit (albeit, sparsely populated) areas, although going from interiors to exteriors was still a loading fest.
  9. Terminal7 8: Eventually Your Breathing Will Stop

Oh huh, interesting! I think I first heard it from Magic but yeah, it's probably more broad than that.
  10. Terminal7 8: Eventually Your Breathing Will Stop

Heh, yeah. At least Stack means "data where the order is important" vs. Heap where it's just an unordered pile that can be used for whatever. But yeah, it's a stretch at best as far as it being close to real CS lingo. But I don't think it's actually that obtuse for new players- you start with a big stack of cards for your deck and when used they just get tossed out in a heap! Recursion though ... yeah. That's technically imported from Magic but it's a weird coincidence that it's now used in an ostensibly hacking themed game but it's even more inaccurate in that context. I have never heard of this person nor watched that show, but now I'm going to have to go check it out!
  11. Terminal7 7: His Toy-Making Genius

Don't think so, no. Generally I don't think it's the best use of our limited recording time to go on about cards that won't actually be playable for months ... as much as I'd like to! Especially as far as H&P is concerned. Next episode will be Fear & Loathing and for completeness sake, we'll probably talk about the Neutral cards like we did all the other factions. Heh, even though the point of discussing those factions was kind of to identify their flavour and theme and by definition, the Neutral cards don't really have any Ah ha, good idea. I didn't want to put it up hours in advance since if there's a mountain of responses, there's no way we'd be able to get to all of the. But it is probably a good idea to just cast a wider net time-wise and just take the best of the best.
  12. Terminal7 8: Eventually Your Breathing Will Stop

Heh, taking a cue from Idle Thumbs, it's usually just something great someone said during the episode! In this case, Seth gets the credit
  13. Terminal7 7: His Toy-Making Genius

Oh, I love that Zaibatsu Loyalty. No trap-heavy deck is right without it! At least not until Honour & Profit, when we get traps that fire on access *or* expose.
  14. Terminal7 7: His Toy-Making Genius

I don't think Leigh's posted it yet, but if she does, I'll definitely link it on here!
  15. Terminal7 7: His Toy-Making Genius

Oh whoa, really? Well crap, here comes the expose party!
  16. Idle Thumbs 144: Gimme Some More

If anyone wants to hear more about Disney's Haunted Mansion, Rolly Crup, X Atencio, etc. there's actually a really interesting two-part podcast from Stuff You Missed in History Class about it. Episode 1 Episode 2
  17. Terminal7 6: We are the Homunculus Our True Colours are revealed as Nels and Jesse discuss that latest data pack in the Spin Cycle. Additionally, the multi-week faction breakdown continues with the second runner faction and the third corporation. Much to Jesse's delight, we take a look at the indiscriminately destructive Anarchs along with the deep coffers and dubious ethics of The Weyland Consortium Games Discussed: Android: Netrunner (Don't expect this will change much), The Banner Saga Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed Ed Harrison's NeoTokyo OST Matt Marteinsson's Mattesque EP
  18. Terminal7 5: The Actual Best Thing

Oh, I should! They're actually currently on loan to a friend, but when I get them back, I can. They're far from optimal, but mostly straightforward. I may actually removing everything related to traces though, just to simplify it even more.
  19. Terminal7 5: The Actual Best Thing

I think the thing that bugs me about FA is it's all about risk mitigation, but risk is the part of game I like the most. Once the corp scores a pair of Astroscripts, the game becomes way too much "Who will draw the right card first?" So then it's just who got luckier on their shuffle. Mostly though, it just seems like it's what the collective mind of the internet has deemed the "best" way to play and anytime that happens, it grosses me out. It's nowhere near as dumb, but it's the same reason ICE-less NBN: TWIY* where it's just about getting two SEs in hand and then either tagging with Breaking News or letting the runner steal it and tagging with Midseason Replacements. That deck is literally just racing the opponent to draw the "right" cards and I find them gimmicky and silly. Ditto on Noise decks that run Crypsis as the only breaker and just install virus after virus after virus. Again, FA is actually legit strategy and not like, I find it's just less fun to play against than other types of corp decks. Oh yeah, "meant to be played" kind of has a value judgement in it. I think we just meant the classic/vanilla/more fundamental/way, not like the best way or anything like that. Ah yeah, that's true. I guess it doesn't feel exclusively HB since there's a goodly amount of non-HB cards that trash programs too (Archer, Grim, heh, Burke Bugs, Swordsman, etc). It's probably just because I've gotten ruined by Archer so many times that it sits large in my ruined brain
  20. Terminal7 5: The Actual Best Thing

Ah yes, that's very true! So I guess there'd be probably no reason for the runner to pay to sack a Snare! if an Encryption Protocol was up. Unless you've got Isabel McGuire and you can pull it back up again Thanks! Matt helped me and Jesse not sound like butt, and Quinns just recorded the audio on his side and I edited them together. It actually ended up sounds better than I expected but as good as I hoped, which was quite nice!
  21. Terminal7 4: Like the Prawn

Terminal7 4: Like the Prawn Mala Tempora has been released, so Nels and Jesse push past an etymological conundrum and talk about some of the most interesting cards in this new data pack. And with the announcement of Honour & Profit, the next deluxe expansion that will focus exclusively on Jinteki and Criminal, a multi-week faction discussion begins! Nels and Jesse look at the design, theme and iconic cards of the Jinteki corporation, with the rest of the factions to come in the weeks ahead. 22. Terminal7 4: Like the Prawn

I will not have my intent questioned! (Also, thanks, I copied and pasted that post in a way that was dumb)
  23. Terminal7 4: Like the Prawn

Ah yeah, that's what it was! My memory was a bit fuzzy and my Japanese is way, way rusty. It was definitely a stretch for sure, but still a funny musing. Thanks =) Yeah, ditto with Heimdall (another Norse god), the Tyr in Tyr's Hand, etc. Even the Ruhr Valley is a real area in Germany. Dig the little things like that.
  24. So, as folks may have heard on Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic, I've got quite a thing for Netrunner. A buddy of mine up here in Vancouver also has quite the thing for Netrunner (and he also makes video games), so we decided to cram some mics in our faces and turn it into a podcast. And Idle Thumbs was kind enough to host it! It exists here: https://www.idlethumbs.net/terminal7 If you're in to Netrunner, I'd love it if you gave it a listen. But even if you're not, give it a listen anyway and maybe you'll find yourself drawn toward a boxed set. The first episode is pretty meat & potatoes, but we want to have most guests on, talk more broadly about why the game is interesting design-wise, why certain factions work the way they do, etc. We're hoping it'll be interesting even for folks that aren't hardcore into Netrunner. I don't play Dota but generally found DotaToday to still be pretty darn interesting to listen to. And hey, if we can turn a few more people into Netrunner aficionados, well, double plus. We recorded the first couple of episodes a little while back, about a month ago, so we won't get to the most recent developments (drafting, Second Thoughts, etc) for a few episodes yet. Any questions, feedback, thoughts, whatever are more than welcome to terminal7{at}idlethumbs{dot}net. Thanks!
