  1. On the subject of Pagan Min, his demeanor, mannerisms, and even way of dress bring to mind the same sort of blatantly flamboyant, pseudo-queer codifying presented in Disney villains. It uses these queer stereotypes to add to the multitude of reasons why to hate this guy. "He looks tacky" could easily be to someone more ignorant the equivalent of "He looks like such a ponce." Here's the post on this kind of insidious codifying present within Disney villains that explains it concisely.

I think it's worth pointing out that this

(and arguably still is: Skyfall certainly makes use of it) a Hollywood-wide trope, not just a Disney thing.

  2. It's always hard to separate a young pop artist's choices from those of his or her handlers, but I think it is worth noting that both Miley Cyrus (a Disney child star with strong ties to Nashville) and Katy Perry (who started her career as a gospel artist in Nashville) both embraced the sex symbol pop star archetype (which for shitty reasons catches a lot more criticism than a male pop star like Justin Timberlake or Usher doing the same).

  3. That's pretty much exactly what I ended up doing. Once I got into the next main story thing, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the writing and quest design. To be clear, when I said the quests seem MMO-inspired at times, I don't think that's entirely a bad thing. It's just more clear that there's an uneven level of detail to different activities. Some get cut-scenes and weighty choices, others just get a few lines of text. That's fine as long as I'm enjoying my time with the game. So far, I have been.

Yeah, so far I get the impression that there's about the same amount of main story content as every Bioware game here, but there's a ton more side-quest filler. I don't mind that at all. The environments are so well done that I actually enjoy wandering through them doing inconsequential chores while my party banters with each other.

Especially when those chores let me update my fancy castle

  4. I have a 60Hz monitor and it seems like it's capped at 60FPS for me. I don't see a V-Sync option in the menu, but that might be what's limiting me there. It's a turn-based game, so I didn't notice it until I just fired up FRAPS to check the framerate for you, but even with a GTX-970 and 16GB of RAM I do see framerate drops down into the low 40's at times with all the settings maxed-out when I scroll around the map.

  5. It sounds like they're finally patching in some graphics options for the FF XIII port now that the XIII-2 one is about to be released. My PS3 died on me about half way through FF XIII, so I might finally give it another go now (or at least when I'm done with the new Dragon Age).

  6. I don't think I've ever bought an Origin game through GMG, but I've never had a problem purchasing Steam games through them. I recently preordered Civ: Beyond Earth from GMG and was able to pre-load on Steam with no issues. Looking at their site now, the discount on Inquisition ($12 off) only seems to be showing up on their VIP page, which I think you need a registered account with them to see.

  7. Has there been any world on the quality of the PC port? That's the only thing that's holding me back at this point.

Eurogamer reviewed the PC version and didn't note any issues beyond needing a new GPU to max out the graphical settings.

edit: The RPGFan review does mention some issues:

A perfect game it ain't, though. There are problems, even in the face of all the care and attention put into the gorgeous visuals, great voice acting, excellent music, and tight gameplay. The menu interface is a mess, even on PC. Comparing items, working with shops, and crafting take far too many clicks. It's clearly designed with the console experience in mind. However, even on the console version, with which I spent much of my pre-release playtime, I still found the menus way too cumbersome for how long I was expected to spend in them.

The reviewer goes on to describe clipping issues, some wonky animations, some issues with camera management, and long load times, but concludes: "Some clunkiness only detracts a little from one of Bioware's best RPGs in years."

  8. I'll take Spec Ops the Line, as long as it's ok that I haven't given away games here? I should have some Humble spares too, I'll check through them and see to make a comprehensive list. Apart from that all I have in my steam inventory are a few hastily purchased Dungeonland keys. (it's free to play now, but the keys still give you a some in game micro transaction stuff)

It's all yours. I just sent you a message.
