If the matter needs any further convincing, Keiji Inafune has also repeatedly asserted that Megaman 2 is his favorite Megaman game.

I also just played Octodad: Dadliest Catch. I really liked it, it's a cute adventure game. I saw some people elsewhere complaining about the last few challenges of the game being frustrating, but i don't believe they were unduly difficult. I do see how it could go wrong though, since most of the rest of the game doesn't really require any precision from you. Simply following the story, the game was super brief, but i felt it was well worth the sale price it's currently on for. The levels are also actually quite big and have a lot to see and do, lots of weird side objectives to pursue if you feel like you need to get more out of it. (Some amusing achievements and an item collection quest that reveals a lot of additional puzzles, including some hidden levels.) Also, Octodad's kind of a dick. For the most part though, it's funny and silly and even a little bit sweet. Probably just don't think about it too much.

1-3 are the best ones, 4-6 just rehash 3. 2's my personal favorite. The gameboy series does a few interesting things over the course of its run, but mostly it's just rehashing the NES games for GB.

I really like Morrowind for a chill game, even without "breaking" the game. Just adjust the difficulty slider to whatever you find appropriate, install some graphics mods if that appeals to you, and just wander around doing some quests. The way Morrowind would give you actual road directions to go follow so you could find quest locations creates kind of a really great wandering experience that neither of the two newer games have with their all-seeing quest compasses.

Four Swords Anniversary is a DSi-ware remake of the GBA game that had originally been packed in with the GBA's LTTP remake. (I don't believe the original Four Swords is a very good game, it's very sluggish and simple.) This is not a new version of the GC's awesome Four Swords Adventure.

If there's not a simple way to prevent enemies from spawning, there's almost certainly at least a console command to prevent enemies from aggroing on you at sight. Also, Morrowind is great for random wandering too. Skyrim and Morrowind both have really great, visually interesting worlds. (Oblivion's kind of bland imo.)

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Well, i would count a number of Epic's games among my favorites, so i don't necessarily agree with the premise of your statement. Undoubtedly though, Epic today is not that Epic anymore. Either way, it wasn't really meant as a criticism of Epic, and Epic's current status aside, your response doesn't address the future of PCF and Chair, both excellent Video game developers shackled to a company that no longer seems interested in making video games. -
Let me second the two Endless Ocean games, those are great. Also, the Wii U is fully backwards compatible with the Wii, and there's definitely enough Wii games worth checking out, if not necessarily a lot. Still, the standout games on the Wii are really, truly excellent.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

The person they're bringing over is one Rod Fergusson who apparently served as a producer on the original three Gears games, left to do work with Irrational and 2k on BioShock Infinite, and then returned to Epic for Gears: Judgement. As for the series itself, i think Gears 3 was actually quite uniformly the best game the series, but it definitely didn't have the following of the previous two. So you're right, the big winner here is Epic, selling off a series that appears to have waning interest. Microsoft still needs good first-party IP right now, but who knows how much life Gears has in it. (I'm not convinced they can reinvigorate it, seeing how they're handling Halo post-Bungie. That scene has collapsed, 343 has bull-headedly pushed on with things that are absolutely wrong for that series and detested by the fans.) -

So Epic has sold Gears of War to Microsoft, and apparently that big Vancouver studio Microsoft has been staffing up for the last few years, the Vancouver-based Black Tusk - the studio nobody was willing to say much about - turns out they're the new stewards of Gears. Whether they've been secretly working on a new Gears of War game for the last few years, or if something got canned in light of this announcement, is an interesting question to ponder. (Additionally, a few of the key people involved with Gears have left Epic to join Black Tusk.) 1. Microsoft's secured themselves another important first-party IP at a time when they desperately need first-party IP's. (Hey, i like Gears, but i also didn't play Judgement, it seemed obvious to me that the series suffered without CliffyB at the helm.) 2. This would seem to continue Epic's slow shift towards being purely a technology outfit. (Which leaves me worried for teams like Chair and People Can Fly.) -
I think i got it figured out. Just to be clear, there are events in the game that are just traps with no other purpose, right?

There's been quite a few spots where it looks like i've done something out of order and broken a puzzle, but the puzzle's state is set permanently with no other solution presently in sight. What am i missing here? Is there a way to reset the puzzles, or are the solutions much less evident than it seems? Am i simply missing the items i need? Yeah, the game controls fine, i'm just used to having more air control. Regarding the use of faqs, i'd at least like to see how far i can get without one, it would just be too dull to follow a walkthrough. The whole appeal of a game like this is the exploration, it would be pretty self-defeating if they made a game so filled with untelegraphed obscurities that it cannot be beaten without carefully following a guide.

There's supposed to be a significant amount of post-game content, including more dungeons and more story arcs, but it apparently takes a fair bit of time to get them to trigger. I'm surprised to hear you say it was short though, the other people i've talked to about it all said it was quite long.

With how long they've been taking to get out 4, i would't feel especially slighted if they just skipped it and gave us 4G in a timely fashion instead. Edit: Minutes after posting the above comment, the story went out that only 4G will be localized for the west, but it won't be released until early 2015. Egh. Speaking of Capcom's sluggish release schedule, what's going on with Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney?

Cyan's been talking about having Oculus Rift support for Obduction too. These kinds of first-person puzzle games that are fully about the immersion of letting a player explore a place seem like the best kind of showpieces for this new wave of VR tech.

I've been spending some time with it and i'm not sure how i feel about it. The jump mechanics are weird, but i dig the silly laptop conceit for the UI stuff. It seems like a lot of the puzzles can be just straight up broken and failed? Doesn't this mean they're just bad puzzles, then? Soundtrack's rad though.

Having gotten a fair bit deeper into Dota, i'm curious to hear what characters you guys play/why you play them. I've currently been playing a lot of Silencer, i love that powerful early game harassment.

I thought Etrian Odyssey IV, admittedly the only EO i've played, did a pretty commendable job making every random battle feel significant and challenging, having enemies designed to make you carefully consider the abilities at your disposal and the systems they function within. (Also, once you've leveled beyond that area, there's the option to let the AI recklessly autofight through those random battles in a flash.)

So Monster Hunter 4G was just announced, also for the 3DS, but MH4 only came out last september in Japan. (I mean, and obviously, nobody even else even has that one yet.) So that's kind of weird.

Every time Nintendo's tried to make a sequel to Yoshi's Island, it's been kind of a terrible, soulless disappointment. I think i'd have a hard time articulating why they're so disappointing, but they have been, and I have seen nothing to convince me that the 3DS sequel will be any different. Perhaps it's just the amount of creativity that was on display in the first one, and that when it became a formula to emulate ad hominem, it just stopped working. The sequels are also all much uglier than the original.

I'm not wrong for perceiving a massive Castlevania influence in La Mulana, am i?
-
I've heard nothing but good things about La Mulana, so i've been meaning to play it for a while. I just picked it up during the sale that coincided with their Kickstarter reveal, but i don't know when i'll get around to playing it.

The game, or just the Steam version? Teleglitch was one of my favorite games of last year, so i'd obviously say it's worth it.
