Unpredictable? All about chance? I really, really don't agree, I had like an 80% success rate with the questions my first time through the game. (People who haven't played the game - I know this because it tells you at the end of each case.) I mean, and not realizing that the number of intuition points resets between cases, i didn't even take advantage of the intuition system like i should have. The doubt/lie choice isn't a gamble, if you have evidence, accuse them of lying. Even then, if you're not completely sure what direction phelps will take it in, prod with the lie accusation, since you can back out of that, and alright... I do think that is some weak design, sometimes having to fudge the game systems because it hasn't properly established for you an implicit understanding of where Phelps is leading the conversation. I mean, but i think you're giving Phoenix Wright too much credit here, i have played all of those games, and they are filled with bizarre left-field leaps of logic. (Some of those games more than others, i've definitely played cases in that series where i had the whole thing figured out like twenty minutes in, which isn't any good either.) I think the difference is that if you get something wrong in that game, the game stops until you get it right. Here, if you screw up, the game doesn't give you a second chance, it makes you live with your mistake and find other avenues of investigation. That smarmy asshole sitting in front of you beat you. It's frustrating and completely awesome.

I remember Gunman Chronicles, that was a pretty cool game, really buggy though. Man, Valve really was mining their mod community for talent and product right from the start.

So in addition to having both the Arcade version and the Saturn version of the game, sounds like Treasure is going to be including a brand new "Ikaruga" mode in Radiant Silvergun XBLA.

Most bullet hell games will do this, have some visual indication of the actual hitbox. Sometimes it's really obvious like it is in that game, but sometimes it actually is pretty easy to miss. (A few games will line the hitbox up with the cockpit of the player's ship, for example.)

Atlus doesn't have a European publishing branch, they usually have third parties publish for them outside of North America and Japan. I can't imagine Catherine will go unreleased in Europe, there's too much interest in the game, somebody will pick it up, i'm sure.

So Treasure just announced that the Radiant Silvergun XBLA port will have both versions of the game, the arcade version and the Saturn version. (The differences being that the Saturn version is remixed and has a lot of story-telling not present in the Arcade original.) It's also been confirmed that the game will be priced at 1200 points. (15$)

Activision's Strategy to Make Every One of its Franchises More Fantastical

It's an interesting observation, but i don't feel like this is the result of any grandiose plans on the part of Activision. It's probably just simple sequel escalation, making each subsequent game bigger and crazier in an effort to sell copies. I've also heard some circumstantial stories that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is more or less Activision doing themselves what they had actually wanted Double Fine to do with Brutal Legend. -
It's fairly well known that Catherine is the next effort from the internal Atlus team that created Persona 3 and Persona 4. (Honestly, a lot of the marketing push for Catherine has been centered around this fact.) As for how long those games are, the Persona games are well known for being significant hundred hour investments of time, while the number i heard being tossed around for Catherine was twenty hours.

Battle Fantasia is a seriously overlooked game, heh. BlazBlue though, i love how responsive it feels, and how wildly different all the characters are. You don't get like eight different shotoclones the way you do with Capcom's games. Just a really frantic and dynamic game, and the amazing netcode doesn't hurt either. Continuum Shift also has the best tutorials i've ever seen in a fighting game, which is something i think more fighting games need to do, instead of just expecting the community to pick up the slack.

The game i keep going back to more than anything else these days is BlazBlue, but i never really stick with anything long enough to get my execution really solid, still just a scrub. Not a lot of people play Blaz anyways, it's a great game though. The Continuum Shift 2 revision was just released as a patch for owners of Continuum Shift.

Heh, that is such a classic vid. Daigo has been shit talking the american MvC3 community about their chances against him at Evo 2k11, it's pretty funny stuff.

In addition to a lot of the typical issues people will raise concerning JRPG's, I don't like how JRPG's divide everything up into all these neatly little disparate component parts, western designs usually form a much more coherent whole. There's really only a handful of JRPG's that i really like.

I'll say again, i don't think you should bother with the side missions in this game, and i think you should abuse the fast travel option. If you really want to do all those side-missions, there's a dedicated free-roam mode in the cases sub-menu on the game's front-end.

Same here, i've kind of been trying to avoid spoilers for this, and i take one glance at this thread and see the bright, pink, bolded text. Whatever though, the general marketing pitch is probably more to blame here for spoiling cool moments like that.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-la-noire-face-off An interesting read, there's a lot of small and peculiar differences between the two versions of the game. The salient points would be the poorer framerate of the 360 version, with the PS3 version having faster streaming and a longer draw distance. Combine those with the game being spread out over three discs on the 360, and the PS3 version is clearly the one to have. For the record though, i played the game on the 360, it was fine. The framerate does dip hard in a few spots, but i never found it especially bothersome, and it's not exactly a game that demands precise and accurate response anyways. Shadows can be pretty ugly on the 360 version, but the PS3 version apparently has its own brand of weirdness concerning shadows.

I just finished the game, i think it was probably around thirty to forty hours? In general i had a great time with it. I really love the way the story wrapped up, and I think it's probably one of the most well executed narratives i've seen in a game. (Certainly for a Rockstar game, at least. I felt the attempts at serious story telling in Red Dead Redemption were kind of a disaster.) The problems i have with LA Noire are fairly esoteric, and i don't think there's really anything especially wrong or broken with the game. So yeah, I would recommend it, it's quite good. I won't be surprised to see it on a lot of best-of lists when the end of the year rolls around. A couple other things - When you go to the cases section of the front-end, you can replay individual completed cases from the story, but there's also dedicated free-roam modes for each case desk. So i'm going to recommend people actually just go ahead and ignore all of the open-world stuff on their initial playthrough, that seems like it would be the best way to experience it. Also, my copy of the game had a code for a free DLC case, so i had downloaded it prior to playing the game, but then just left it alone and started the main game. I went to look it up in the cases sub-menu after finishing and came to realize that i had already played it, it had been integrated seamlessly into the normal story progression. I thought that was pretty cool.
