Oh hey. I had the idea of a revamped deck of tarot cards too. Instead of pentacles, wands, cups and swords there would be pokemon, wizards, starlets, and tyrants. The Major Arcana were all going to be 'suits' [Rabbit suit, birthday suit, jerk suit etc]. I think I still have some sketches around, but they are even worse than yours. I stopped when I decided some of the wizard cards should show libraries. Drawing is one of my least favorite things, and libraries are especially terrible. Also hello everyone. I never post, but subscribe to this thread because you lot are pretty great.

April 15 in Milpitas California is the inventing the future of games conference. Featuring Jordan Mechner(most likely to be batman), Emily Short(the narrativest), Will Wright(was born ready to talk about 'inventing the future of games'), and probably some other people too. It is $100, or $30 if you are a UCSC student like me. It is a long shot: but if anyone is attending, or will be nearby, beers should be had.

We need some PSA's on this subject. Do any celebrities play minecraft? -

Finally a petting zoo that will let you kill and eat the animals. Like God intended. The picture is, of course, not from the server. Not even mine. A friend used it in an IM conversation to illustrate what terror is, before I even played minecraft. I wanted to best elmuerte's 'flight of the creepers'. Impressive picture by the way. You must have hit a hive of them. -

Wait, really? Let me get my list. Falling Water Sarlacc Pit. A giant creeper, emerging like Godzilla from beneath the waves. A warcraft syle goldmine cover for all mines. The best waterslide ever. Moon laser. Giant evil clown head, to complete 'clown terror cove'. Any wonder from the civilization series. The great wall would be cool. A recreated level from a platformer you like. Trailer park, with matching tornado. -
These are pretty good. I usually dismiss science fiction by saying it 'falls on the stupid side of epic'. But between these and Enders Game, I might have to invent a new phrase.

Sweet! So how do I add markers? Labeling the spawn and the inlet I'm working would help building and expansion plans. I've decided to name my inlet 'Clown Terror Cove', by the way. More proud than I should be of that. -
x2 combo multiplier! I just finished Painted Ocean, Painted Ship by Rebecca Makkai. Pretty excellent: I'd forgotten how good/depressing short stories are. The Briefcase is also by her, also good, and very short.

Can c10t add markers to the map? They would be useful for navigation, and maybe a fun tool as well. -
EY0iCKvcRiA I'm surprised Dead Rising hasn't been discussed more. I haven't played it myself, but understand it is a semi-sandbox game with smaller, denser environments. Potentially cool stuff.

For anyone curious, Super Meat Boy is not appropriate for those with no platformer experience. Nor is it appropriate for children, pregnant women, or men particularly prone to tears. I'll try again with a controller at some point.

This podcast made me want to give out hi-fives like the end of a buddy cop movie. I listened to the latest Experience Points on grinding in MMOs. A little dry, and nothing I hadn't thought before. I'm generally down on company podcasts. I'm not convinced they can have the same breadth or perspective an independent podcast has. Tim Schafer is the man to do it though.

I guess I could start the game with you guys, keep the bench warm for whoever comes after me. I'm moving soon though, so I probably won't be able to play for more than a few weeks.

I had never heard of this. It is really good! Kind of a 'Sudoku: the good parts'. Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah I have that too, it showed up when the mac version came out. The Civ series tends to have low software quality, you will notice other animation glitches and interface weirdness. Anyway congratulations on the purchase, I'll buy you a beer if you don't like it.

Civ IV is vastly superior as a strategy game, Civ V is a better 'game where you build a sweet empire'. Civ IV also has a vibrant mod community, including Fall From Heaven and Dune. Honestly if you own one turn based strategy game, it should probably be Civ 4. Is super meat boy appropriate for someone who has never played a platformer? I'm tempted by the endless lauding it gets.

I've caught that. Not pleasant. Spider-man will be sitting down to pee for weeks.

How long do the games last? How much does a key cost? I am moderately interested, but have a bad habit of wandering away from these appointment based games.

Right, I've already listened to it. It was good. The incredulity about the spike pyrotechnics was funny. I was projecting into the future. Sorry I was unclear. I clearly need some writing practice. -
Is there any way to turn off the background? I feel like a rave threw up on me. Also, get off my lawn.

You think? I assume they will be be trotting out developers eager to talk about all the rad things they are doing. I usually enjoy games in inverse proportion to what I expect of them. The solution is obvious. Unfortunately developers are always trying to ruin my strategy by marketing their game. -

I avoid paying attention to games before the reviews are out. Which means this is the last podcast I'll be able to listen to safely. For eleven months. Unfortunate. -
Bob Came in Pieces is an excellent puzzle game, for anyone into that sort of thing. I discovered today I own Shatter, I'm guessing it was in one of those thanksgiving multipacks. I briefly tried to get the contest-achievement before discovering the game is seizure-inducing and bullshit. Still, the idea that valve has the ability to compel people to play a game en mass is a cool one. They could try this again without the contest and with alien swarm, for example.

Much of the reason I remember this game fondly is that different characters sound like different characters. In most games, all people sound like a twenty-something game designer trying to impress a lady. In this game, people have different accents, vocabularies, and speech patterns. Exciting! It also made me realize how hungry I am for games with competent story.

Combed through this thread for gift ideas, and noticed two conspicuously missing authors. 1. Christopher Moore is a funny man. I recommend Lamb, or Bloodsucking Fiends for San Fransisco natives. 2. The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls. Dysfunctional-family-voyeurism at its best. Plus many people have read it. This means you will be able to converse about it, which is not something you can say about Issac Asimov or Nabokov.
