"Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

A little off-topic, but someone showed me this brilliant comment today on KiA, and all I can say is LMAO.

Sorry if this has been posted already.

They used to just joke about video games! There's someone who missed the entire point of the podcast.

Fair play to him for wanting to give Danielle Riendeau "a chance."

I see all these new buzzwords, "misogynists" "MRAs" etc. and they're quickly becoming meaningless insults used by SJWs. Much like how "socialist" is used by conservatives to attempt to discredit anyone opposite of their political view.

The missing in action self awareness never ceases to amaze me.

Incidentally, the people of Denmark are getting an absolute shoeing in this debate overall.

Wait, what? What did Denmark ever do?

Wait, what? What did Denmark ever do?

"Roosh couldn’t get laid in Denmark, that’s why he wrote Don’t Bang Denmark (in reality he just found the women to be ugly, sarcastic, and unpleasant)."

From blog post above. This keeps coming up. I just... I didn't know who this Roosh person was two days ago and I want to go back. Not surprising at all of course that a dude who is convinced Anita Sarkeesian is a scam artist idolizes him.

Oh right, yes. Because women in Denmark don't want to have sex with a dude who, if memory serves, believes that wiping his ass "thoroughly" is a humiliating concession to women.

Can't imagine why.

IIRC, Roosh got continuously turned down because Denmark has unusually strong social services especially weighted toward helping women, so none of them are desperate/stupid/socially pressured enough to fall for his bullshit.

Ah, here's the article.

Google makes it absolutely clear that it is anti-GG.

GG is, naturally, kind of freaking out right now, because they still think they can convince the company that knows everything about everyone that they aren't a hate group.

What tweet is that referring to? I'm assuming it got deleted because the tweet before that was something about devices and clouds.

It was like "gaming is for everyone! #gamergate" with a graphic that had an ostensibly feminine hand with nail polish holding one side of a controller and a hand that didn't holding the other end of it.

Ugh.. there are some gross, shallow minded people out there on the internet. Self reminder to not repeat the mistake of working myself up into a state by reading vitriolic reddit threads at 3am.

Makes me really appreciate this place. Thanks everyone for being so cool and making these forums so welcoming.

Haha wait so either someone at google saw the hashtag floating around with tweets about diversity in games and innocently decided to use it or there's like one gater on their PR team. Good

Man, I couldn't read much of those Aurini/Owen Skype logs but leave it to Aurini to make Owen seem like an "SJW ally" or something.

I've always thought that Owen seemed more the misguided sad sack and Aurini the frustrated incompetent supervillain, and what I've been hearing about this breakup only reinforces that interpretation.

Seriously I think this dude would fit right into an episode of Venture Bros.

I was going to crack jokes about gamergate, but this is way cooler.  Leigh Alexander is leaving Gamasutra to be one of the co-founders of a new gaming news site called Offworld (part of the Boing Boing network).

This will be an unequivocal home for women and minorities, whose voices will make up most of the work published here. We're central to the growth and development of this warm, brilliant, expressive medium.

Our doors officially open next Monday, March 9. The journey was long, but we made it, and this is our space. Welcome Offworld.

Even the easter egg backdrop game of Offworld is cool (oh my god it's Asteroids except you ram the asteroids and it feels so great).

I had no time for the previous Offworld, but I have lots of time for Leigh Alexander and wish her the very best.

Am I insane in thinking there was already an Offworld gaming website? I feel like I'm having some bizarre deja vu.

Edit: Wait so Merus, there was an older Offworld website? What was that like? Was it even related? Can I find remnants of it?

It was Brandon Boyer's thing before Venus Patrol. They never talked much about why it shut down, but there was some kind of deal that saw the entire Offworld archive transferred to Venus Patrol.

We have a very advanced health care system that advises strongly against sleeping with people who refuse to wipe their ass.

GamerGate is threatening Google with taking their "business" elsewhere.

Where? Google's a biggie. You don't attack the biggies as a gaga, you attack the indie.

We'll have that "they didn't really mean it that way" narrative soon, or at the very least "actually, they are neutral". B)

I started reading those Skype logs, and I was surprised to see that Owen was not on board with PUA bullshit. He definitely seems like the lesser of the two evils, especially with how quick Aurini with not only bossing him around, but also throwing him under the bus, including email Roosh and telling him to "go get him".

I must admit, I got curious what Roosh had actually written about Norway and Denmark, so I googled it. Luckily, my work filter knew better:

[edit] Man this Skype log is full of precious quotes, including "my girlfriend liked Rooshs article, so it's not misogynistic", and then this:

Imagine Reason Magazine posting an article arguing that “If we took away Black’s welfare, the fear of starvation would force them to better themselves,” and then having some Lefty saying “Libertarians want Blacks to starve.”

I... Isn't that exactly what they're saying?

I feel like that's.... a bit reductive.

Gamergate is appalled at 'accessible' art due to its growing inclusivity.

Pre-Raphaelites were just bummed about particular art techniques that were taking over.

Also I don't think Gamergate will get in art world trouble for painting a woman not up to the period's standard of beauty any time soon. Angering people by painting Mary not beautifully seems pretty rad. GG seems like the ones who would be angered over the pre-raphaelites "Taking away our 'Mary boobs'" so to speak.

And come on, this is amazing: "In particular, the group objected to the influence of Sir Joshua Reynolds, founder of the English Royal Academy of Arts, whom they called 'Sir Sloshua' "

The Pre-Raphaelite group weren't just bummed about art techniques, they were trying to turn the clock back. They extremely elitist in their attitudes too. I forget the name but there was a guy who agreed with them about using traditional techniques and showed them how he had developed a method for making affordable, hand made wall paper and they turned they noses up at him. That last bit you quoted is indicative of the problem a bunch of rich kids throwing names out and pretending they are proper movement when they were nothing but a bunch of hooting dickholes.

Rosetti was an amazing douche bag too, after his wife died, possibly due to having her lie in water to pose for one of his paintings, he made a gesture of burying the only copies of all his unfinished poetry with her. Then he realised that he could make some money off of them so had her exhumed to get the collection back.

I'll admit that I am biased against the Pre-Raphaelite group but that Wikipedia page sheds them in a much nicer light than it should.

I can't stop reading. I know there's no point in schadenfreude, and that it's tantamount to gossip, but it's so good. Here are some more choice quotes:

[3/2/2015 11:24:23 PM] Jordan Owen: You have been trying to play Tyler Durden to my Jack this whole time and frankly I’m sick of you pouring lye on my hand.

[3/2/2015 11:55:05 PM] Davis Aurini: Now stop emoting and make a damned decision.

[3/2/2015 11:55:38 PM] Jordan Owen: And how exactly am I supposed to know you’re being honest and sincere with me when you say that and not doing an “amigdala hijack” on my r-type brain or something?

[12:05:56 AM] Davis Aurini: And if you’re worried about me ‘hijacking’ you, then you should seriously worry indeed.  You’re already on the borderline of stability, and I might be able to put you into an insane asylum – IF your estimation of me is correct.

[12:07:03 AM] Davis Aurini: Stop responding so emotionally; Ayn Rand would be ashamed.

[edit] And now some from the comments:

Aurini: Besides, I never claimed to be a nice person, I’m merely someone who tries to do right by others. The alignment’s Lawful Good, not Lawful Nice.

Some Dude: What people don’t seem to understand is that unlike the Anita Sarkeesians of the world who pop up out of nowhere to make a buck and then vanish, Aurini has an established presence. It matters if his reputation gets tarnished in a profession sense. It affects his future. I also know that integrity matters a lot to him, and these chat logs demonstrate that.
