Most of the time there isn't anything particularly interesting on Twitch unless you want to see high level play in a particular game and these days the most popular games are League, Hearthstone, and Dota. You may get slightly better produced content from Youtubers doing live streaming but those are less frequent and you'd probably only tune in if you're familiar with that streamer and already like their edited videos. I basically tune in to popular Twitch streams as light entertainment when I don't want to commit to playing or watching something.

I'm currently browsing twitch streams, but not finding anything terribly interesting. Any recommendations?

What do you want to watch? Most of my recommendations either to watch or stay away from would be based on what you're interested in viewing.

Bikeman and NorthernLion are about the only streamers I follow that aren't game-specific streamers. Bikeman is funny and Northernlion is a really good spelunky player that does a super show thing where they play all kinds of stuff.

Ah yeah, +1 to NL. He also archives all of his supershows and let's plays on YouTube under the same name.

+1 to Jeff Green's Dark Souls streams. If you don't know Jeff, he's genuinely charming. His seeming lack of spacial awareness can be frustrating.

He turned me on to "Kay Plays," and she's fantastic. Here are her Let's Plays, organized into playlists. She's methodical, calm, and detail-oriented. I enjoyed watching her Dark Souls streams more than I would have enjoyed playing those games.

If anyone has any other Twitch/YouTube recommendations, I'd love to hear 'em. Turn-offs include excessive profanity, brohaviour, and hideous, cluttered overlays.

I mean, if you're not familiar with him, you should know that he is, not that he's only charming if you don't know him.

Stream Friends is delightful. I also watch Day9tv but only on Monday nights @ 7pm PST when they do Mostly Walking. 3 friends from graduate school (they went to USC) get together and play an adventure game of some kind every week & talk about it.  They do full playthroughs over the course of weeks & the recordings go up on Day9's youtube channel. The backlog is very worth watching, as is the old MetaDating show they did on Geek & Sundry where they talk about Romance/Dating and how it's portrayed/incorporated with game mechanics in games.

I got an email notification about, thanks for following. I'll definitely bump this thread the next time I'm playing. I just finished up Nova Prospekt, so I'm coming down to the wire...but hell, I might play the two episodes as well. A friend on another board is trying to get a few of us streaming semi-regularly, so I'll definitely keep up with it.

I was tempted to go buy some green fabric and build my own chroma key background, as OBS can key out the BG on the fly.

Nice! I just did a replay of Half Life 2 as well, and that is one of those games that is always fantastic to revisit every year or so.

I'm sure I'll replay the episodes at some point as well although its hard for me not to be tempted to just jump into episode 2 since that has my favorite moments of Half Life.

Last night David Grenzowski @david_is_neato was streaming work in the Unity editor while doing some creative djing. It was 3/4 silent tutorial and 1/4 performance art. Grenzowski seems to have built up a toolset of scenes and scripts that he can pull into the editor to when it will complement a song or vice-versa.  It was really interesting seeing the Unity editor used in this way. Creating environments from primitives, particle-systems and lights can have a similar feel as that sand-painting projection thing, or just watching someone paint. But when Grenzowski starts using the dollar-sign for a particle-sprite and searching through their audio library for the best "money. money, money" sample in their collection, and when there is no intention to actually use this is a resulting game, I feel like I'm watching expression.

As weird as it sounds, not having a camera keeps me from streaming sometimes. The backdrop is awful, and often times I'm sharing the room. Plus I don't have two monitors (space issue), so I can't have chat and a game open at the same time. I dunno maybe I'll move soon and this will be easier!

Danielle & Patricia were/are streaming tonight.  Seemingly started drunk.  Thank you for the evening of entertainment
