A B C D E3

E3 is over but we're somehow not over E3. This week Danielle runs down her favorite games from the show, Jake recounts his fleeting brush with Destiny, and why he can't stop considering the desires of the tiny Chris Remo who lives in his mind.

Things Discussed: Alien: Isolation, Destiny, Kirby's Rainboy Curse, Mario Maker, Nero, Never Alone, Splatoon, Star Citizen

I personally imagined Dinkelroy as being Justin McElroy's upper body on Peter Dinklage's tiny legs.

And now I imagined the cube opening up to see your version of Dinkelroy. That is a mental image I never needed.

On a more serious note, I think casting McElroy in the role for Destiny 2 is a good choice,

.

Okay so in case anyone missed the Splatoon reveal:

I was confused by it until I saw the time lapse of the arena getting painted over. I immediately caught on to what the objective of the game is and it just looks like fun. And sometimes that's all I need a video game to be! It also has more specific mechanics to it than you'd expect it to have.

It was probably my favorite game shown at E3 out of everything. I am too excited for it for my own good.

I had heard of this legendary TimeBelt business, but this was the first time I actually saw it in action. Amazing!

Also, hi, I made an account.

If you haven't seen the trailer for Never Alone, you should check it out. The language is seriously beautiful.

Lego Universe was made by NetDevil who has been defunct since 2011 so they can be ruled out as Redacted. One of my coworkers used to work there and from what he has told me, it's probably to Star Citizen's advantage they are not involved.

Splatoon looked fantastic. There's

from the (fantastic, diverse) Nintendo treehouse coverage that shows the game being played, and I want to highlight the fact that one point the margin of victory for a team is 0.1%. With random people playing at E3. In my head, the best competitive games have a unique idea done well, where skill is rewarded, but it's not required that you have to spend hours and hours and hours before you can be competitive, and it looks like, if Nintendo juggles this well, it could be a real winner. Providing it ever comes out, and providing that their online matchmaking isn't miserable.

Oh my god I'm hearing the space ship car-commercial audio right now. That's amazing and terrifying.

Man, thanks to this episode and the last I don't have to see the E3 streams to see what games would grab my attention; the idle thumbs crew did that work for me.

spaceship car-commercial audio is insane and I fucking love it.

PS Danielle episodes be da best

I enjoy how many times Danielle has used the word super so far in this episode.  She's just a natural thumb now.

Also, welcome to the forums Junior Mints!

Listening right now.. I have no idea if this is actually the case, but I've been looking at that Kirby footage for waaaay too long.. And I could swear it looks like it's actual, real clay. The whole thing looks sprite-based, unless they actually rendered it but then decided to limit the rotation of Kirby to 8 or so directions, to make it look.. authentic?

I don't know, I may be going insane thinking about this..

I don't mean to besmirch Nature Box, but if the ********* slices snack is just dried *********, couldn't you just get it at any bulk foods store?

Anyway, great ep, those Star Citizen commercials were more than I was prepared for.  I still think the phenomenon is pretty crazy.

Edit: Pine-apple is censored!?

Looks like zbrush to me, you can see (what looks like) dynamic shadows and actual 3D geometry on the tree-dude. I feel like we increasingly see 2D-3D hybrids these days (Diablo 3, Broken Age). I could be mistaken though!

Edit: That's a thumbs up!

I just can't believe how often that comes up.
