TychoCelchuuu Posted September 12, 2014 It's spelled "Weiss" though isn't it.

Strangeblades Posted September 12, 2014 It's spelled "Weiss" though isn't it. ? Hmm. I thought the reference was Idle Vice (Miami Vice).

TychoCelchuuu Posted September 12, 2014 ? Hmm. I thought the reference was Idle Vice (Miami Vice). It is.
SuperBiasedMan Posted September 12, 2014 But I believe it's also a reference to Edelweiss. Roughly pronounced ay-del vice, ie. Idle Vice
Ben X Posted September 13, 2014 Goodness you lot, it's spelt Idle Vice, because it's an Idle Thumbs t-shirt with a colour scheme reminiscent of Miami Vice, but there is a punny aspect to it because it sounds like "Edelweiss".
Strangeblades Posted September 13, 2014 Wow. This reference goes deep. Edelweiss is a Sound of Music tune named after a white mountain flower.
TychoCelchuuu Posted September 13, 2014 Goodness you lot, it's spelt Idle Vice, because it's an Idle Thumbs t-shirt with a colour scheme reminiscent of Miami Vice, but there is a punny aspect to it because it sounds like "Edelweiss". It was originally spelled Idle Weiss. It was presumably changed because people weren't hip to the joke or something.
Sean Posted September 14, 2014 I don't think it was?? Maybe I'm wrong.
Jake Posted September 14, 2014 It was always Idle Vice. Idle Weiss would be too many steps removed. I think we thought "Idle Vice" was funny for the Miami Vice name substitution, and then doubly good because whenever anyone says it out loud someone says "wait did you just say Edelweiss?" JonCole Posted September 14, 2014 I think we need to put Tycho in the remedial Thumbs lore class.
Strangeblades Posted September 14, 2014 I think the Idle Vice-Edelweiss confusion just adds to the mystique. Like a good story (or myth) it should change over time. By next year we should all be singing Weiss de Idling with Jan Hammer rockin' an accordion-synthesizer.
TychoCelchuuu Posted September 14, 2014 Somewhere it said Idle Weiss. Maybe on the poll.
Jake Posted September 14, 2014 Maybe in this thread. In the poll it just said "The '80s."
