This topic is to help get developers and artists together.  This can be either visual or audio.  If you're an artist seeking a developer, provide some examples of your work and what types of games you'd like to make.  If you're a developer seeking an artist, describe what kind of art you're looking for, possibly a game description or prototype if you have one.

Ah. Posted part of this on the 'Amateur Game Making Night' thread, but this seems the proper place to put it.

I make music and would enjoy making some for your game. Here's my SoundCloud so you can get a sample of what I do: https://soundcloud.com/xarhini

Currently have a lot of time on my hands, so don't be afraid to ask!

Some of this stuff is really pretty cool. Hella bookmarked.

I might be able to help out if anyone needs models, textures, rigs or animations. I can also create concept art for any models I'm going to make, but I'd rather not. I can make pretty much anything, but I'm in college, so my time is limited. This means the bigger the request, the longer time it'll take.

Due to my limited time I'm only going to take on a few tasks at a time, so no long term commitments. :)

I have a question for you 3d-modelers and 2d-artists out there. What's the ideal scenario for finding out you want to contribute work? Would it be seeing a prototype of the game with shitty art and saying "I want to make the models or backgrounds for that"?

That's a good question. Yes personally I think a janky prototype can potentially be more convincing then a good design doc. Especially if said prototype displays an interesting idea. That said, I'm all about the idea & if it's something I would play myself.

I feel like there's a challenge with hooking up with designers and programmers in that I'm really hesitant to cold call (for want of a better term) in threads/on twitter/etc. looking to get involved, but at the same time there aren't many decent options to put yourself out there without having prior experience. I've been lucky enough to have a couple of my songs used in various projects via sites like indiegamemusic.org but beyond building a relationship from the ground up and being called upon to contribute foremost as a friend I don't really see any comfortable way to establish working relationships as someone starting out. Thoughts?

I guess I should add, I'm a music technology student aiming to work as a composer and sound designer. If you wanna hear examples of my stuff there's some things on my soundcloud. Happy art-ing!

unless the scope of the project is very small, I'd like to see a convincing prototype (or at least a design doc & project you've finished in the past)

tangentially: I think the advice nowadays is getting involved in a game jam. It's a low pressure - or at least commitment - project that lets you interface with other disciplines. If you finish the jam, and find someone you enjoy working with in the proccess, you're already in a MUCH stronger position then if you'd cast a net randomly on the internet

I hear you on that; makes a lot of sense. I guess I'd never considered my skillset to be that applicable to game jams even though that's clearly a dumb thing to think.

That art is adorable! Love the lowpoly environment. With some more doodads and props it could definitely pass for a Dark Souls level.

I am only speaking for myself here, but a prototype, regardless of jank factor, is a lot more convincing than a big impressive design doc.  It's one thing to have ideas, another entirely to show evidence of having invested labor into realizing them.

After that, though, for visual art, a shopping list of specific assets and specs needed for the project, along with possibly a moodboard with examples of the visual style you're looking for, would make the decision to jump in a lot easier than just "I made this prototype and I need an artist!"

(also I know this thread is a year old, f the police)

I never heard of a moodboard before. That sounds like a useful thing to know about, maybe I will assemble one next time I start a project. Thanks for saying moodboard!

Moodboards are just generally good to have a strong representation of the tone you're aiming for even to keep yourself on track when making decisions in any area, not just visuals.
