It's really sad to see a great game die off like this, but I'm part of the problem (though I did play a handful of rounds over the weekend!). I gave the game a solid 50+ hours of my life, so I definitely got my money's worth.

Nice, I hopped on yesterday and got in a game fairly quick. Now to see if I can get some of my other friends in to play again.

Been playing solidly now for about week and the connection problems don't seem to have been as bad as when I first played.

I am heavily addicted to Last Titan Standing and Capture the Flag. The former slows down the pace of the game and people don't play the way they play Call of Duty because of the fact that you have only one life and your Titan is invaluable in this scenario, with the slower pace I am getting more familiar with the level layout as well as the best setup for weapons and abilities. It is by far my favourite game type and there seems to be a fairly healthy group of people playing.

Some of my favourite experiences have been when we were outnumbered and clawing a victory back through communicating with the team and mixing up the weapons selection. I don't get a lot of kills because of my setup (chaingun, cluster missile and particle shield) but I can keep myself alive and do a hell of a lot of damage (I normally lead in assists).

Capture the Flag is fun because it is hleping understand how to traverse the maps and not worry about feeding the opponent's team. Sure, they might get their Titans quicker but that doesn't help them win the match. The gameplay being less focused on twitch and more on tactical maneuvering is really helping and it is a hell of a lot of fun.

I never liked Last Titan Standing. Mainly because I don't really enjoy using the Titans. I love the wall running aspect, and as soon as I get in a Titan I feel slow and vulnerable. I usually lose in a 1 on 1 titan fight, and prefer the fast moving titan with a chain gun to take out pilots and grunts. I only ever get into a titan fight if I see one already going on.

See, I can understand people preferring the parkour running and gunning but for me the break neck pacing of Attrition and Domination just bore me as I spend most of my time dying and respawning. It is embarrassing but a 34 I can definitely see my reflexes dulling a lot so that kind of twitch gaming just isn't as fun as it used to be.

Last Titan standing is still fairly hectic but it slows it down enough that I feel like I can play to my strengths of 'old' age. Those being able to tactically assess situations and moving through areas offering support and figuring out when to push advantages better than some kid who just rushes in every time and plays it like it is soem death match iteration. It is also why I got so hooked on Gears of War when it first came out.

You say that usually lose in a 1 on 1 fight in titans. Last Titan Standing is a really good way to hone your titan fighting skills. In the same way that Capture the Flag has been great for me to hone my traversal skills (although if you are like me your K/D ratio goes to shit).

A patch came out that tweaks teams in the lobby. It works, sort of, there were still some moments where we were 6 vs 3 but it is still better than what it used to be. The insignia and AI voices are in and don't really change anything - I actually prefer the original voice. The multiplayer option seems fun and chaotic. Randomly one person is marked for death on each team and remain so until one of them dies, when that happens someone else is randomly selectedn until one team scores 10 kills. I can imagine that some may cry out that the unbalanced nature of it (someone can be marked for death who is inside a Titan) but I think that it is nice that they are dipping into refreshing new play styles.

Here is what bothers me - does it not feel like Remedy have done this arse backwards? All the free content they are providing is cool but would it not have been better to monetise that and made the maps free? I know I probably would have dropped a couple of quid for some new Titan skins and dallied with the idea of buying some voices for my mech, but with the community slightly fractured by not everyone having the map packs ... It doesn't make a lot of sense for the continuing existence of the game.

Big, big update is coming and they're actually addressing matchmaking this time:

http://www.titanfall.com/game-update-four

Too bad none of this is going to matter to the Aussie player base. I don't understand what their objection to just adding in a server browser is (especially as these are the same people who dropped the fat turd that was Modern Warfare 2 PC). Wasn't that finally becoming common again in big budget games?

But hey nah please keep charging us extra for the same game in the same currency, because that's not a fucking slap in the face or anything.

That's not precisely a Titanfall issue, and a bit unfair to leverage it against Respawn.

Played some Marked for Death today. Got right into a match, played 3-4 rounds. Quite fun!

I played Marked For Death for the first time last night. Y'all were right, it's more fun than I expected it would be. Typically I don't enjoy VIP modes because of snipers between me and the target, and the possibility that I'll be stuck in a room for the entire match. Snipers in Titanfall are useless and I was more effective parkouring across the map through buildings as a target than staying in one place (or saving my titan-drops). Racing to the target once they've been designated is a great excuse to develop and improve paths. Capture the Flag did this, but the routes were static, having a moving target requires a different way of seeing potential paths. I almost didn't try it out, but it was super fun. I might be biased though, in one match I killed the target seven times because I'm boss.

I love the day where I realize that I'm too comfortable with my build and the routes I run and that I should start reinventing myself. I am incredibly effective in Attrition with a smart-pistol after I've picked up a carbine from a dead soldier, my titan equipped with a chaingun, particle shield, and cluster-missles.

Today I was playing and I picked up a spitfire LMG off of another soldier and started using it. Since I've been playing a lot of Insurgency the LMG now has some meaning to me. The lack of a bipod drives me crazy, but finding cover at medium or long range and blasting fools is fun as shit. It's a vastly different playstyle than what I am used to. I'm not getting very many points, but I don't really care. I have to remind myself to enjoy games non-optimally sometimes. It gives me a deeper appreciation for them.

The SMG is my favourite weapon.

I like the generation requirements being there too as I have found that I am really into 40cal gun on the Titan. Sadly, the particle shield and cluster missile are still my favourites as support equipment - I just don't like the cloud or vortex thing.

Generation 3 for Life!

I loved using the 40-cal when I was a titan-killer. I switched to the chain-gun to farm more minions. Last night though, I saw an enemy pilot try to jump onto one of our titans from a rooftop. The titan had a 40-cal and shot the pilot out of the air right in front of me; giblets everywhere.

One of the functions of the cloud is that it obscures visibility while you are getting away to recharge your shield. The vortex is fun just because you can judo missles back at the enemy that fired it. I like how active you have to be with it, but the particle-shield lets me unload as the titan on the other side bobs and weaves in a panic.

I'm glad capture-the-flag is back. It's the only game type that feels like a team-effort. I played some good games of it last night. Running the flag, returning it, escorting, and defending are all really enjoyable for me. I played a great low-scoring game on Bones last night.

The thing that's keeping me from Gen 6 was never gooser, it's the goddamn arc cannon. I really dislike this thing as a titan killer.

Yeah, I understand there usage it just feels like the cloud is so context specific and takes far too long to reload to be useful. With there being a lot of tunnels and corridors it is easy to keep firing into a cloud and score hits on someone retreating. The vortex is fun but there are simply things that can be shot through it or cannot be trapped so it is, again, a context utility.

What would have been nice is to maybe given the Ogre the option of using a combination of two of the abilities due to its lack of mobility and make it into a proper tank instead of a slow bullet sponge.

Man, the low scoring capture the flag matches are the best - it is unfortunate that too many people play it like it is attrition. It is definitely a mode I will go back to once I get bored with Last Titan Standing (that could be a while).

My initial impressions of the new maps are positive. For the record, I play Attrition most of the time. I actually think I will like this batch more than the last. I enjoy jumping into windows and fighting in medium-sized rooms with diverse layouts.

I'm also pleased with the new burn-card system. Now it feels like I'm saving up for something instead of trashing a bunch just so I can reload my queue.

I think the new maps are much better than the last batch. This seems like useless information though since it's obvious that the people who would enjoy them the most are the ones still playing Titanfall. I really enjoy playing the new maps in games of Attrition where I don't care if we win or not. There are some great areas for hunkering down until an encounter and then traversing the walls until you jump into a window to do it again. Picking of minions with the B3 Wingman and trying not to get killed is a fun way to spend my time. It doesn't help us win though.

Excellent!  Downloading them now.

I have a very similar play-style!  All of my main weapons have a silencer, my mini-map displays minions, and I do my best not to get killed.  I'm much more brash when in the titan, though, since it gives me a second life.  I really enjoy the dynamism between those two play styles.

There's something so satisfying about having directed fodder in a game like this.  I know that I can sit down and play two rounds in ~30 minutes and have a generally good time, no matter how my reflexes and focus are.

In these games I tend to pick a couple things I like and stick to them.  In Titanfall I generally always use the CAR or the R97 (the two SMGs) and I always pick up either a carbine off a dead grunt or whatever  SMG I don't have or a shotgun.  Occasionally I'll decide to spawn in with a shotgun.  My playstyle consists of running on every wall and jumping everywhere like a crazy person while capping points (I usually play hardpoint).  When I'm in a titan its a Strider because that's the fastest one and I like going fast.

Edit: Damn I meant to reply to clyde's build and routes being too comfortable post.

Marked for Death has opened up the levels for me again. I hadn't realized that my paths were exclusively bee-lines to hardpoints and flags until I had to start racing V.I.P.s that are circumspecting the level as I race toward them.

Right now, I'm mostly playing Attrition on the new levels just so I can learn how many floors there are and the basic layout.

Do any of y'all have opinions about the new maps? I like all three for drastically different reasons.

Titanfall is adding a new mode where it's basically just Call of Duty - no Titans, no AI.

I think it's an odd decision, even if it may end up being a popular mode. I mean, it strips out the identifying aspects of the game which I find potentially unsettling. Also, are they going to adapt the maps at all? I imagine it'll be a lot easier to camp with a sniper rifle on an edge of the map that is generally designated for Titan traversal. There are huge fields of fire meaning that even a bad sniper could have an easy time picking off someone trying to close the gap and kill them.

That's odd. Those maps always felt rather empty. The ai and titans really helped fill them up.

I think respawn fucked up with DLC maps. That killed the game for me. Shame to see something promising die slowly in the EU region.

The DLC sale over this last weekend got me to dip in and get the DLC maps, because I'd been looking for an excuse to play more Titanfall.  I think I like the second map pack better than the first, but I also think the first pack has my favorite level in the bunch, with that swamp level.  Wall-running on all those trees to make a fast escape way above the ground is just an awesome feeling.

It's weird, because I feel like I'll play Titanfall heavily for a period and burn myself out, but give it a few weeks and I get the itch to come back to it.  Even when MW1 and 2 came out and I played a bunch of those, I never got the itch to come back, it was just playing it hardcore for a while and then I got tired and basically never touched those games again.  The last time I got that with a game was Syndicate (the Starbreeze one), until I finally had to give up the dream because no one was playing that game online anymore.

Also, that Call of Duty-style game mode seems like a really weird decision.  I kinda like the DLC pack for Battlefield 3 where they did that with the game, but that was coupled with maps that played to that gamestyle.  Nothing about any of the current Titanfall maps seems like they would be fun to play like that.

If Titanfall hadn't made the decision to monetize map packs I'd still be playing, possibly right now. I know it's SOP these days but it's a practice I supported once with Battlefield and refuse to do again.
