Licenses That Demand A Game

Zeus, you should make a reskinning mod for Majora's Mask. It's basically that; an iteration of days until you reach the perfect run and save everything.

 

I've never actually played more than a few minutes of Majora's Mask. I'm a horrible person, I know.

I was actually thinking the same thing.  There is a Dresden Files pen and paper RPG game that could maybe be adapted into a video game.

 

I own the DFRPG source books, but haven't delved super deep into them.  What I have read has been worth buying them though, just for entertainment.  Bob the Skull provides commentary and side notes on the explanation of the game. 

 

 

Groundhog Day. You relive the same day over and over and watch the same series of events happen each day with slight changes based off of your interactions. Once you eventually discover how to break out of the loop the game's ending would consist of you getting to live one last day and experience the world finally moving forward again.

 

I would totally play that!

 

On the subject of Dune games, I remember quite enjoying the very first Dune.  It was more of a sim than RTS, with managing your growing influence on the planet while keeping the Emperor appeased and undermining the Harkonnen.  But it's been 20 years since I've played it.

Perfect Strangers episodic content a la the Walking Dead. Every episode cousin Larry tells a hug, unnecessary lie and Balki goes along with it against his instincts. Hijinx ensue. In a surprising unlock able mode you can play as Mary Ann.

I always kind of wanted an adventure game based on The Maxx. Seems like the surrealism and pacing would fit well.

 

For a brief second, I thought you were referring The Max from Saved By The Bell.  I would make a joke about a Saved By The Bell game but I don't think I actually want that because it would end up being a dating sim or something.

I just read the first book in the Gentleman Bastards series.. Feels like that world could be a nice fit for a swashbuckling action/adventure game in the vein of Assassins Creed, but with less focus on combat and more subterfuge.

My god you're right. I played a lot of that game over multiple playthroughs and it totally does exactly that.

 

So yeah, I guess my Groundhog Day game idea isn't very original.

I would love it if DICE dropped their Star Wars Battlefront game in favor of making a similar game based on GI Joe. Ever since BF 1942 came out I have wanted to be able to use all of those silly vehicles (Trubble Bubbles!!) in a similar game.

I guess in that sense Rouge Legacy follows the same loop.

But RL acknowledges it through the idea of playing on as a descendant.  Whereas DR doesn't acknowledge it at all, but there is a definite Groundhog Day thing going on in the background.  I can't think of anything that does it in a more overt manner.  I suppose you could argue that some rougelikes do, like Binding of Isaac. But it's not really the same thing.

I don't think roguelikes can really apply for that Groundhog Day comparison simply because you're being dropped into what is essentially a new scenario each time you start over.

Since it was mentioned earlier on, I don't think Majora's Mask fits either, since you carry so much quest and character progress back to the start of the game every time you reset the clock. It's effectively only a time limit on individual quests.

Dead Rising has you seeking mastery over a set campaign that spirals out in different directions as you poke and prod at it, trying to figure out an optimal route through it that will also allow you enough time to handle as many side tasks as possible.
