I Had A Random Thought...

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if I am incorrect in thinking that people sexualized the "canon" Sonic characters before the Sonic Adventure redesigned where everyone was lanky and aged. Like I know there were sexualized aspects just because of the Archie comics crap, since I used to be an avid reader for a few years of my youth, but it was always just the side characters who always looked like they did not fit in the same universe as the Sega created characters. Maybe the Dreamcast redesign was everything the furries who read routinely the comic had been waiting for?

I'm guessing the probably answer is people were thinking of Sonic having sex since day one and since all I used the internet for in the 90s was for reading about Tamagotchi/Gigapets, downloading Calvin and Hobbes comics, and getting video game cheats that I probably missed all of that. Just seems odd to me that characters originally based on the asexual design of Felix the Cat would have sparked that sort of interest. I should note, I haven't looked up Felix the Cat on Deviant Art though.

You would be amazed.

This is Dennis Falk, the guy who was directly responsible for getting Tiny Toons cancelled because of his increasingly creepy and sexual messages to the show's cast and crew. This picture is twenty years old.

Holy shit, I figured so. I mean I knew there was already a thing going on with all of the anthro animal comics in the 80s, I just figured the more mute animal characters like 1920s-1940s characters and the like would have been immune. But yeah Tiny Toons is just an extension of that as well yikes.

I will try not to waste more than five minutes time reading about Dennis Dalk now.

Oh boy, this guy is fascinating. Wouldn't be surprised if he was almost single-handedly responsible for the reputation furries developed, especially since at the time most men on the internet didn't really notice creeps. (I think there's similarities between Dennis creeping on cartoon animals and the more mainstream creeps that creep on women.)

Well, who could deny there is something going on sexually in the Springtime scene in "Bambi"?

I think we pretty much all could, Dennis.

edit: oh my god. So because Tiny Toons was popular, it had a lot of merchandise. And so the adult fans of the show would joke about Tiny Toon Bar Soap, until they worked out that meant they could

lather Babs Bunny all over their naked bodies

and suddenly the merchandising didn't seem so bad. Oh god this is going to get worse before it gets better isn't it.

edit 2: what the fuck this story involves the guy my friends and I had to cut off because he kept creeping on friends of ours

So I've been watching the Giant Bomb Extra Life livestream. It's been generally pretty great, but maaaan did I cringe hard when Jason Oestreicher's wife started talking about how much she loved Bridget from Guilty Gear because of "how so many people thought it was a girl" while sitting mere feet from acclaimed transgender game developer Samantha Kaplan. She started talking about Poison from Final Fight before Samantha basically had to say how uncomfortable it was making her. Eesh.

That's a shame. I didn't see this particular portion of the stream, but Jason's wife and Samantha Kalman seemed to be hitting it off earlier in the stream. Hopefully it was just a misunderstanding and not hidden prejudices. To be honest, I've met Samantha a couple of times and I never really knew any of her history. Sentris is awesome.

On the flip side, every time I'm at a vending machine i wonder is there a word to describe the feeling just before your vend falls, when you are sure that it won't fall.

Speisenichtfallenangst

There should be a German loan word for "German loan word for hyper specific psychological state"

Memories of high school German classes and Google translate leave me with: Uberspezifischpsychologiezustanddeutscheredensart.

Deutschessehrpräzisesgeisteszustandsleihewort would be my take

e: Dutch can also do these but they don't look as cool: Duitsextreempreciesgeestesgesteldsheidswoord

I was in the pub the other day with work colleagues, talking to my friend who's an Archer fan, when another colleague overheard us and asked us who Kenny Loggins was. So we then googled him, and the first thing I said was "Holy shit that's Blambo". To which everyone looked at me confused, and I had to awkwardly explain it away.

Why does no-one understand me?

It's cool that I can bake in a false impression just by passively supporting it. With enough time I'll begin to associate Yotsuba with you.

Lol hopefully. I think it's less likely, as you already know yotsuba so you already have a knowledge of the character, whilst I have never seen Kenny Loggin's beautiful mane until I googled him that very night. As your avatar is that of a real dude's face, I just assumed that that was your actual face, having never met you, or seen a real picture of you to associate your name to. The internet is weird!

I love the ability to preempt someone's image-building of you online by having an obvious and memorable avatar of a face. Mington made watching Mad Men for the first time a little odd.

Yeah it's a real identity danger zone.

Apparently, rumours in Russia were that tv advertisers were calling the shots on their new daylight savings system. People are going to watch more tv now as it is darker.

Here in the UK we've already changed. It means brighter mornings and darker evenings, as far as I'm aware? Or at least that's how it feels. The fact that's its almost dark by 5.30 is pretty miserable though.

The history of conspiracies around Daylight Savings Time is nutso, although the TV stations controlling it is a new one to me. People say it's about the energy companies making more money, and that the claims it saves money are just a bullshit smoke screen. That it's about thought control, getting the masses to mindlessly obey whatever whim a government might have. It's socialist. It's authoritarian. It was fine before, but Bush Jr. turned it into a big conspiracy with his Saudi oil buddies. I'm sure Alex Jones has a theory on how it's all about the lizard people wanting to study our sex lives.

At least this year people seem to be a little more rational about it, realizing that actually, it's about ethics in games journalism.
