Yeah, I love my tranq sniper rifle. When I finally realized that not hitting the guards in the head can sometimes be a better idea than head shots, I have been very efficient in clearing out smaller outposts: Say, you have three soldiers that can see each other all the time. You just shoot each one on the torso in quick succession and wait for the tranqualizer to kick in. When the first one falls, the others will become suspicious but they will fall to sleep before they can do anything.

Yeah, this is handy and its what I would do with the pistol all the time when trying to get past small out posts...shoot guys in the butt with tranq darts and wait.

Completed the game yesterday... part 1. I'm not sure how I feel about continuing on when most of the missions are just rehashes of previous missions. I really hope none of them are skulls replays of missions.

You should be able to skip just the rehashed missions and still continue on. I will say toward the end you start realizing how often they use some of the same areas over and over.

I was hoping that would be the case, but I'm looking at my mission list, and the only ones open to me are repeats (one Subsistence, one Extreme mode). Kind of a disappointment. I'll keep going for now, but I don't know if I'm terribly motivated to get to the "true ending" or whatever.

Yea I ran into the same situation but after completing another handful of side missions it eventually opened up for me. It is dumb and bad how they lock that down without a clear path to opening up the last mission or two.

There are unfortunately some Skulls repeats, but they're not too bad if you save them for last and come back when you've researched some better firepower. Battle Dress and some of the heavier guns make the Skulls stuff a lot easier.

Hmm got all s/tasks/development done but stuck at 94%, I guess 1 or 2% more could be from getting super rare animals but do I need GZ file or something to get full 100%???

Animals count toward 100%, yeah. Development doesn't, actually. I'm amazed that managed that. After over two hundred hours I still haven't (unless you just mean base facilities, rather than weapons). Did you do every Side Op?

Yeah I got all the side ops (including that darn R&D target one) down.  I'm missing like 20 animals so I guess that's pretty big portion of it.

By development I meant weapons/gear.  Although it's still showing A grade for 2 categories (D-Walker), I really hope I didn't bug out few blueprints :x

Blueprints count, and so do all the weird things you get for S-ranking and completing all mission tasks. I think there's a bug with blueprints right now, so it's not possible to 100%.

I was listening to cassettes and doing side ops. I went back to Mother Base to do target missions and I started with R&D. It took me 5 or 6 tries but I got it. Then I moved on to the next one, got it first try. Then on to the command platform. I was running all over looking for the  last few targets (very top of the main tower) and I fell down from a catwalk and died. It took me a couple more tries before I finished that one, then I pulled out the iDroid to see what was next. Guess what? No checkpoints between platforms. I get to do R&D again. FUCK EXACTLY THIS PART OF THE GAME.

Overall lots of fun. D-Dog all day every day.

Yeah, it's seriously baffling why they would even punish you for dying on mother base at all. The first couple times it happened I lost a bunch of hidden gems I'd collected, which is such a tedious thing in the first place that I kind of gave up on giving a shit about the base at all.

D-Dog is my waifu. Anyone else max out their bond?

I changed them to white fur with an artificial eye. Felt like a betrayal at first now it seems natural. It's like I'm Solid Snake running around with one of his sled dogs!

I think ithe diamonds and the target practice are in service of trying to get you to explore Mother Base, which actually helps a lot if you plan on getting into the FOB invasion game.

To those people who haven't been getting their new missions in the second half of the game, remember that some of them are triggered by cut scenes that you get when returning to Mother Base, so don't forget to return and take a shower between every few missions/side-ops.

Edit: Also, replaying old missions counts as spending time as well, so you can always go back and try to get a blueprint, specialist, or secondary goal you missed on an old mission.

You definitely don't have to do any of the replay missions to unlock the "true ending", I just unlocked the last mission and haven't done a single replay. There are just a bunch of weird conditions you need to meet to unlock the missions. Try just doing a bunch of side ops and whatever is marked in yellow and eventually you should start unlocking stuff.

It's pretty hilarious that there are hidden diamonds in Mother Base in the first place.

If you hold up your own guys and tell them to "spit it out," sometimes they'll give you the location of diamonds, telling you "I don't know what came over me... I hid these diamonds here."

So... I guess it makes sense...?

Is that required to advance the main story? I don't care about the true ending. I figure I'll never put in the time to see it. But now I'm stuck after 43. I did all the important side ops. I keep doing regular side ops and going back to mother base, but I have no new missions showing up. I've barely used Quiet because of gross character design stuff, and because of how useful D-Dog is. Do I need to max her bond out to finish the game?

And if you spend enough time with her, you can actually put clothes on her body!

The reverse of every other video game protagonist's relationship with female NPCs!

The only story missions after 43 are 45 and 46. 45 is all Quiet stuff and wraps up her character arc, if you don't care about her then that part is optional. 46 is basically the big crazy real end which you should absolutely do. I don't think you need the Quiet stuff for 46. I think you need to do a bunch of side ops while also building up mother base to a certain level and possibly also listening to certain important cassettes and at some point it should unlock. You'll know when it unlocks when you get contacted to come back to mother base and there is a fairly important story cutscene. Now that I'm writing it out it really is king of silly the lengths you need to go but the real ending is pretty big.

Huh. So do credits roll after the Quiet stuff? Or is getting the "true ending" the only way to actually finish chapter 2? I knew the game was unfinished, but the process of trying to wrap it up has been kind of absurd. I still like the game, but I think I'm pretty much done trying to finish it at this point. I declare myself to be a video game baby.

Yeah credits do roll after the Quiet stuff as well as the real ending. It's kind of interesting that you're having trouble triggering it as I got to it pretty naturally. Didn't really have to do much to unlock the 45 and 46. You could also just watch mission 46 on Youtube since the story stuff in there is pretty important but that mission isn't of much value gameplay-wise

I'm not sure why, but I just keep doing side missions and nothing new ever comes up. Which is fine. I still enjoyed my time with the game. But I don't know how much more of my (pretty limited) gaming time I want to spend coaxing the game into letting me finish it.
