I do like the orbs of light I get from melee attacks with my Defender subclass. But what I tend to find is that in any of the higher tier stuff like PoE 32 and above, it usually seems to be a pretty bad idea to get in close enough to melee guys and I usually get wrecked pretty quickly. The best use I've found is to pop my shield near a bunch of guys and start beating the crap out of them when they try to rush me. With the additional shield I get while in my bubble I can usually get quite a few kills, generating a few orbs of light in the process. But even that generally feels like a reckless approach and I feel like I would always be better off trying to keep my distance and kill guys before they can get in too close. Maybe I just need to work on my skills.

Defender is totally OP for POEs. If you don't already have a Helm of Saint-14, make sure you roll Exotic Helm Engrams from Xur as often as possible as that's the best Defender armor period. It blinds anyone who goes into your bubble, including enemy mobs. This effectively means that any major or ultra that dares to enter your bubble is nearly instantly immobilized, leaving them vulnerable to melee and shotgun attacks. On high level PvE content, you should probably roll Armor of Light too so that you're more hardy when guys enter your bubble. While Gift of Light is nice for producing orbs, if you roll War Machine you can really quickly reload a shotgun and dominate in short range of your bubble at a very sustained rate.

A common strategy for dealing with VIP waves of POE (including Skolas) is dropping a bubble right along the path that the VIP takes and the final capture point. As he enters it, your Helm blinds the guy and then your whole team can whale on him in safety. This is way safer than trying to take out the VIP en-route.

If you're concerned with producing orbs, Gift of the Void > Gift of Light. Ward Duration isn't incredibly important, so I'd take Gift > Bastion in most situations.

Thanks for the tips Jon. I don't have that helm yet so I'll make sure to start rolling on it whenever the helm engrams are available. I'm pretty much trying to max out my orb generating capabilities so I've got Gift of the Void, Armor of Light, Gift of the Light, and Iron Harvest active at the moment. When I play with Zasa, he runs with a similar build but with Blessing of Light instead so if we both pop shields we get armor both inside and outside of the shield. Definitely agreed that Defender is OP for PoE. But man it's fun to run with 2 Defenders. We pretty much have our supers all the time with those subclass bonuses and maxed out Intellect.

Strength is a good stat for Warlocks, where the range of their attacks is long and the Sunsinger benefits from Flame Shield pretty handily. It really just depends on what you actually are productive with, most people swear by Int/Dis but if you're garbage with grenades then Dis isn't going to do you any good.

pyeixe, you'd probably do well to join an Xbox 360-centered clan via the Bungie forums, use the /r/fireteams subreddit where you can filter by platform, or join a group on the100.io that is 360-specific.

I'll look into that, cheers.

So is the Plan C fusion rifle worth getting from Xur this week? It doesn't look all that great but then again maybe there are scenarios where it would be useful that I'm not considering.

Since FR's have been completely nerfed out of the meta, it's not particularly compelling anymore. That said, it is pretty much the best the FRs have to offer in terms of the combination of perks, charge rate, impact, etc. If you don't have a good FR and would like to use one sometimes to work on your Grimoire score, it's as good a pick as any. And if they ever unnerf FRs, it'll be one of the best in its class. Getting a good roll for a FR is a very, very narrow set of perks so it's easier to buy this one than reforge a Perun's Fire or Give/Take.

Also, in case anyone isn't yet on the100 or hasn't checked their emails, Spork/VG posted a Crota NM for tomorrow. Please join us if you can!

Thanks for the assessment Jon. Strange coins have been pretty easy to come by lately so maybe I'll just go ahead and grab it. I was reading that it would be a solid PVP choice for upcoming modes that won't have radar as it has a perk that reduces charge time right after switching weapons.

Interesting considering, if the rumors are true, they canceled the different starting missions for each origin right?

Cussedcayuse, Zasa, and I had a pretty excellent run last night. We managed to get through the Nightfall strike, weekly heroic, level 32 PoE, and level 34 PoE all in about 3 1/2 hours. It was especially satisfying beating that Quodron boss at the end of 32 PoE since we were never able to beat him previously and me, IHateDRM and Osmotich had also tried and failed earlier in the day. Sweet vengeance.

Also, 34 PoE was surprisingly easy this week once we got the hang of the final boss mechanics. Having Fallen for 4/5 rounds with 2 equipped Kellslayer pieces giving bonuses against Fallen enemies was a lot of fun. And a nice change of pace from the Vex heavy 32 rounds and all the Hive rounds from previous weeks.

That's a pretty damn good time for all that content, congrats. It's really nice when you start to get a semi-regular source of etheric light, I enjoy choosing what armor and weapons I like best and making them as good as they can be.

Yeah, I'm beyond stoked to have etheric light rolling in fairly regularly now. I've managed to max out Fatebringer and a couple different elemental fusion rifles (these have become my go to for burn rounds as they just melt through everything), plus I've gotten a 365 shotgun with one of my weapon cores. And after last night I have a fresh armor and weapon core just sitting in my inventory for whenever some good gear comes up.

I think the Prison of Elders content is my favorite stuff in the game right now. Even level 32 is a pretty consistent challenge and the amount of teamwork and communication required makes every victory feel so rewarding.

I'm pretty convinced we would have managed with some more practice - good times either way & cool to hear you got it down!

Qodron tips -

  • Have one person dedicated to Eye-killing and jailbreaking - use a scout rifle for long range Eye kills, use a (preferably full-auto) shotgun for quick jailbreaking.
  • Another tip for the jailbreaker, use Super Good Advice because all hits on the shield do not register as hits on an enemy so you have almost unlimited ammo
  • If for some reason nobody has the jailbreaker buff when everyone is contained, make sure everyone breaks out before attacking ads or Qodron again; you can shoot other people's bubbles from the outside to take them down as well
  • If you're a Voidwalker with The Ram, melee hits on the shield count as kills so health regen is triggered - shoot the shield a bit then melee when your health gets low, rinse and repeat until containment is broken
  • Always prioritize ads, Qodron now spawns ads based on health so clearing ads then dps is an effective strategy (wasn't like this when his encounter first came out)

I finished off two exotic bounties in the last couple days netting me the Super Good Advice machine gun and the Pocket Infinity fusion rifle.

Pocket Infinity seems kind of terrible, especially when I already have the Praetorian Foil maxed out. The range is pretty bad and most of the other stats seem mediocre at best except for the fact that it can fire in full auto mode (but with a pretty tiny clip) and recover missed rounds. I don't really see myself wasting an exotic slot on this but I'll level it and keep it handy anyways.

Super Good Advice seems halfway decent and it's cool that it also has the perk where missed shots are returned to the magazine. But it doesn't seem to be anything I've heard of anyone using or talking about so I don't expect I will find myself wanting to waste my exotic slot on this one either. Also, the range is a little too low for my liking.

I did at least have fun going through the last leg of the bounty for the Pocket Infinity which requires you to get 200 kills in a Nightfall Strike with fusion rifles. Since I had just picked up the Plan C fusion rifle and the Nightfall had Arc Burn and Specialist, I just kept re-running the Nightfall strike solo and tried to get as far as I could each time before I would inevitably get murdered by some invisible melee guy. That fusion rifle just melted through absolutely everything including yellow bar ogres and in my best run, I was able to get to the part right before the big tank boss which was probably between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way through the whole strike. I'm hoping my next exotic bounty actually gives me something decent for my troubles.

Containment shields work just like Oracles. SGA doesn't register hits on oracles or containment fields as a result. This is the reason to keep SGA -

Thorn, Invective, and Bad Juju are all good Exotic Bounty rewards. SGA is obviously situational, but it's so good in those situations.

Oh haha, I forgot you literally just posted that before me. Okay, so maybe there is a small use case for that one.

I don't use any of my exotics-via-bounties very much. Invective is useful for generating special weapon ammo in a pinch, but don't we all have like a million synths for that now? Jon has said he sometimes uses Bad Juju in PvP. But Thorn is probably the most useful bounty exotic, as documented on previous pages of this thread.

I eventually completed all of the five exotic weapon bounties on the Xbox side before moving to buying a second home in PS4 land. I've yet to see the SGA or Pocket Infinity bounties even offered on PS4. And I seem to have missed the boat on Husk of the Pit/Eidolon Ally/Necrochasm. As a compulsive collector of useless digital stuff, that makes me kind of sad.

Still patiently waiting for the Thorn bounty to drop. I feel like I'm the only person who still doesn't have one. Also, Gjallarhorn would be nice.

I'm kind of excited to try Vault of Glass again now, especially after seeing that clip Jon just linked. Fatebringer + Praetorian Foil + Super Good Advice sounds like a pretty solid trifecta for taking down Oracles.

I use Invective all the time in PvE. The ammo generation is nice, but the real benefit is that it fires ridiculously fast and hits like a truck. If you aim at the head, four shots are enough to kill most Major enemies, or at least bring their health low enough that they can be easily finished. I don't think many people use shotguns in PvE, but if that's your playstyle then it's the best one around.

You can still get a Husk of the Pit, although it takes alot longer now. There's a Blade of Crota in the first mission in The Dark Below "Fist of Crota". You have to restart the checkpoint over and over again until you get it which is a bit tedious, but it's possible.

I've done that a bunch to satisfy Eris Morn bounties and never seen one drop. But I imagine you're right: If I put as much time into running that mission as I did sitting around waiting for Blades to emerge from their caves back in the TDB days, I'd probably end up with one.

I imagine Destiny will never be like WoW, where the world changes radically and there's no way to experience the game as it was before. But it's interesting to think about how people who pick up the game post-HoW will likely never hit rank 4 with Eris, or transmogrify a Husk of the Pit into a Necrochasm.

I got a Husk after running that quest probably less than 10 times. But I will probably not make a Necrochasm, as I've played with people who've reported not getting a Crux after 40+ CEHM runs.

The radical change will be when Destiny 2 comes out and everyone moves on. Very curious to see how that whole thing will be handled.

I've got a Husk that I got pretty early on but is maybe 1/3rd of the way there. I'm slowly leveling up an alt right now, and just for fun I plan on using the Husk for the Hive missions as I come across them, but I'm sure not planning on getting a Nechrochasm anytime soon. Not only is the Crux a pretty rare drop, but the Nechrochasm isn't a great gun. Maybe they'll buff it someday?

I think I might buy Destiny even though I think I'll end up hating it.

Quick talk me out of it, thanks.
