Jutranjo Posted November 18, 2015 Nah I've only just gotten to Caed Nua, the castle. The temple basement/dungeon had maybe 2 or 3 rooms of many shades, if it was one in a hallway by itself it was fine. The priest's 2nd level fire spell helped and I lucked out at rolls for combat damage. Maybe the 20% of grazes converted to hits talent respec for the fighter helped a bit. I'll post/edit how Caed Nua goes but with 5 I'm not expecting it to remain as hard as it is. Hard actually makes the game hard D:
Jutranjo Posted November 19, 2015 I think the main issue with the shades and shadows was 3 and 4 party members. With 5 it was doable, with 6 it's not much of a problem. Main problem is them doubling their number with some summon. I tried using torches which was ok but still not enough (they do fire damage which the shades have lower damage reduction against and _I think_ also don't target Deflection so they can be hit). Crazy wizard in the castle basement went fine, they've added fire immunity to the Blights (the elemental boulder things that float) as well as one of the weapon damage types (pierce or slash, I forgot). That'll be fun when they start appearing in bigger groups. After getting 6 I did most of the sidequests in the areas to the west of Caed Nua, then went to Raedric's Hold. Attacked head on, killed every single guard and sellsword, looted everything. The killing gives no exp , they even pointed it out in some interview how stealthing versus killing everything awards the same exp reward. It does but I did the dumb thing of picking up everything and putting it in the stash, then sold fifty items, including many plate mails for 200 cp. I already have 13k money. :\
Jutranjo Posted February 7, 2016 I finally got my party to level 8 so I can start White March. It's really neat. In the town you go to, at some point a naked man bursts out of a barrel of fish. He asks if you are real and there's 7 responses, the first 4 being 1. Yes. 2. [Lie] Yes. 3. [Lie] No. 4. No.
Jutranjo Posted January 24, 2017 The documentary they filmed was previously only partly available unless you were a higher tier backer. The full 80 minutes are now up on their youtube I watched it yesterday, it's a good watch. The way they recorded vocals and music for their 1st trailer was surprising. Also since this is the first post in nearly a year in this thread, the same YT channel also has a 4 part Director Commentary with Josh Sawyer, each about 1 hour long. Mostly taking questions from the Twitch chat, it was live streamed. Also! Their twitter account's been posting different wallpapers/splash screens(?) with quotes. It's nearly certainly POE2. Probably will include pirates and take place in the Deadfire Archipelago. I think one of the above mentioned streams confirmed they'll let you import a save game. The teaser quotes hint that maybe some characters will return in the sequel? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C2lbnRcVEAAjfqW.jpg:large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C2eMBDnUcAAFJnR.jpg:large
noiseredux Posted January 24, 2017 oh nice! I've been wanting to watch that for a while.
mikemariano Posted January 25, 2017 Thanks! I am currently replaying the game with the White March expansion for the first time. The Devil of Caroc is a good addition to the cast of characters.
Jutranjo Posted January 26, 2017 It's up on fig now https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire?media_id=481&utm_campaign=CF17&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=Obsidian#forum
Vulpes Absurda Posted January 26, 2017 Interesting but I'm not sure I want to go the extra step of backing them on fig after the transphobic backer comments they allowed into the last POE. Though to their credit I don't see any tier that let's someone get anything other then their name in the game.
Jutranjo Posted January 26, 2017 I thought they removed those and let the backer put in something else.
Vulpes Absurda Posted January 26, 2017 They did but what they allowed back in was something about how people are too sensitive and SJWs and blah blah blah.
Jutranjo Posted January 27, 2017 The game's funded now! They're adding stretch goals, first one is multiclassing. I haven't seen any game where it wasn't either totally broken or broke as fuck. Josh Sawyer's tumblr is full of tidbits (some in german), here's one about the art style http://jesawyer.tumblr.com/post/156418902296/can-you-talk-about-the-inspirations-for-the-art Here's two articles that aren't just "POE2 is having a crowdfunding campaign" http://www.pcgamesn.com/pillars-of-eternity-2/pillars-of-eternity-2-release-date-story-setting http://www.pcgamesn.com/pillars-of-eternity-2-deadfire/pillars-of-eternity-2-josh-sawyer-interview Quote “If you’ve gotten tired of seeing temperate forests and meadows for 80 hours,” Josh Sawyer tells us, “Let’s take a look at something else.” Pillars II takes place in the Deadfire Archipelago - a smattering of small volcanic islands far to the south of the Dyrwood. Where Pillars 1 had a Middle Ages European vibe, the Deadfire more closely resembles the southern Pacific island chains of Asia. It might have lantern shields! Here's the first update after reaching their initial goal The only concrete mechanics thing I've seen so far is that they've made the party limit 5, down from 6. Also it's going to have some fire/ice/etc. keywords? That might blow up gunpowder barrels and stuff? Edit: Heres the mechanics update, subclasses are like kits from BG2 https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire?update=241#updates
mikemariano Posted January 29, 2017 Currently re-playing the first Pillars game and wincing a little bit every time I pay for a stronghold upgrade.
Jutranjo Posted January 29, 2017 The whole thing is a gold sink, but it does give some nice text only quests for your inactive party members every so often.
Badfinger Posted January 30, 2017 Fewer party members is how you tone down complexity but it's not as good from a character building standpoint. Not a huge fan at first blush.
Jutranjo Posted January 31, 2017 With multiclassing and subclassing it'll probably weigh it out a bit. Here's an OK read https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/01/31/inside-pillars-eternity-ii-deadfire-game-director-josh-sawyer/
