Vicera Cleanup actually isn't that bad. It does give you a sense of satisfaction when you get everything done in the right order. Buuut then I look slightly to my right or left and see messiness that I actually made and I just can't enjoy my procrastination any longer.

I think I'm probably done with Shadow Warrior as well, but only because I'm being petty ruthless with my backlog this year. Got it cheap and I've enjoyed my time with it.

So I deleted Candy Crush Soda Saga from my phone a couple weeks ago.

I actually think it's a really fun subway ride game. I also find the "You failed too much so you can't play anymore for however many minutes" timer limit thing interesting, if not for the fucking weasely payment nature of it. I'd love to see it implemented in a mobile roguelike or something, without the option to buy it away, to make game death even more meaningful.

But yeah, done with Candy Crush. If any mobile game is going to throw in app purchase ads in my face every 30 seconds it's going to be Crossy Road.

Candy Crush Saga is pretty bad about that stuff, but I still dip into it once in a while. I keep getting into these games because my gf is addicted to freemium games, and always needs someone to give her extra lives.

I am close to giving up on Beyond Good and Evil. By my reckoning im quite far into the game, but the camera is getting more and more frustrating and I hate piloting the boat around. And i just know that soon, I am going to have to do some frustrating mini games in that boat to get those last pearls I need.

I am on the verge of giving up on GTA V.

This game, ignoring the embarassing storyline, is utter dogshit. The controls are clunky just moving around, the cars handle better than they did in GTA III but still have this floaty unsatisfying feeling to them. The shooting is iron-sights whack-a-mole. The missions are all on rails and barely improve on the already bad structure of Vice City. I just did one where I drive somewhere, talk to someone, dismiss some pornography pop-ups from their PC then walk somewhere press a button then walk back and then drive back so that I can trigger a cut-scene and press another button. Rubbish.

The world is very interesting to look at for about 10 minutes but the character models are all blocky and the animation is leaden.

People keep telling me to stick with it until you meet Trevor but I really can't be arsed (and that means I might try and finish it anyway).

If it helps, you're really fucking close to getting to Trevor. You have about 3 missions or less before you unlock him, depending on your heist choice.

Personally I thought the writing in some scenes were exceptional, my highlight so far is when Trevor and Michel meet up. That was great. Then the preceding mission afterwards made little sense. Also going to the shrink is particularly enjoyable.

I have yet to finish GTA V yet though.

I only played the first couple of hours of GTA5, but all the "story" missions were rubbish (oh GOD the pop-ups!) and the dialogue wasn't very good, exacerbated by everyone constantly talking non-stop. More is not the same as Better, R*

I played the first 10 hours or so of GTA5. Far enough to unlock everything of importance and yeah... it's just not very fun. The story is utter crap, the missions are boring, and all the side stuff is probably only fun in multiplayer.

Makes me wondered why I enjoyed 3/ViceCity/SanAndreas so much. Maybe I had lower standards then? Maybe the industry has just moved on in terms of design and Rockstar didn't really keep up

When I think back, I never really enjoyed GTA. I liked driving around, killing cops, murdering innocents and doing dumb things. I hated the missions, but I was probably caught up in the rage that was GTA hype and the idea of playing such crazy games.

Woah, GTA3 was kind of like my minecraft. I was a kid, I made my own fun.

Phew, I thought it was just me that didn't get how great the game is.

I've now played a lot more and the missions are all leaden. The much vaunted bit where you switch between characters during heists doesn't requrie agency or thought and I just did another mission where I had to move some crates. It made Shenmue's similar forklift missions look fucking amazing.

Far Cry 3 is so stupid, I want to just delete it off my SSD.

Is there a reason to see this through to the end? I just went through the laughable sex scene/dumb "boss encounter"/cowboy shootout/"goodbye" sequence. I am just appalled at the stupidity of this game.

I finally unlocked the second island, so I'll probably give up sometime after finishing up the radio towers and guard posts. The way the story missions funnel you through some heinously-designed corridors with absurdly tight failure states makes me want to write Ubisoft a strongly-worded letter.

I'm about 4 hours into Dragon Age Origins and it really feels like a chore for me to keep going. I'm really not a fan of the combat system and the game seems to keep throwing really difficult encounters my way where my 3 party members have to fight 5+ enemies at once and I really have no idea how I could do this without spamming potions non-stop.

Someone convince me to stick with the game, otherwise I might have to just call it quits. For the record I really loved the Mass Effect trilogy.

If I wasn't invested in the story and characters of Dragon Age, I'd have dropped it long ago. It's by far the worst game Bioware has put out... in a long time. Well, not including TOR, since I never played that. The combat is really awful.

Maybe dip the difficulty down to easy, so at least it's a breeze and less annoying?

Also, get the fuck out of the Hinterlands if you're not already. Do the main story stuff and get out.

Yeah I think I will drop difficulty to easy, since I am just interested in the story and want to get through the combat as quickly as possible.

I'm actually not sure what the area I am in is called, but I'll make a note to get out of the Hinterlands. The last thing I did was clear out some roadside bandits and find a refugee camp with a chantry, so still very early in the game.

Yeah that's the Hinterlands. The first big area you get to explore. There's a ton more to the game than that, but getting out of there opens the game up a lot.

I misread the everything. Why did no one call me out?! Ignore everything I said up until this point!!!!

Circle tower is good, yes. Go there.

Combat is a huge pain in Origins all the way through to the end, but there's definitely some good stuff worth seeing in there too.

I rented The Wonderful 101 and gave it about 30 minutes, enough to get through the tutorial and most of one mission. I really don't want to play it anymore, mostly due to the weird "draw a shape to perform some move" thing plus the theme of the game. I think it's kinda charming, but at the same time it's far more grating to me than the goofiness of something like Bayonetta or Vanquish. Funny how Platinum Games can really just make games I love 50% of the time and games I can't quite stand the other 50%.

Why did no one call me out?!

You've been so knowledgeable about the entire DA series elsewhere, I assumed that the Hinterlands was simply an area in Ferelden and I hadn't been paying attention :P

I don't really think 30 minutes is enough to get that game at all. You won't have the dodge or the block (which is dumb, you should start with both) by that point.

I started trying to draw the shapes by hand, but it's sooooo much more efficient to just use the analogue stick to make shapes. Not really sure how you can hate 50% of platinum games, they're basically all the same game, just with a vastly different aesthetic.

I think a vastly different aesthetic and an unlikable control method is more than enough to make me really not like a game. I can think of tons of games that I either didn't play or quit early because I didn't like their sense of style. Not only that, but I couldn't even reliably draw a circle or line with the analog stick which I was trying to use because I also didn't like the drawing. Maybe I'm just bad at games? I dunno.

I also grant that I'm much more open to quitting now that I am renting stuff from Gamefly. Since I ostensibly have access to a great library of games, probably something like 90% of which I haven't played, I feel no compunction giving up after 30 minutes.
