Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

*Let me preface this by saying that I didn't quit because I thought it was bad. I quit because I couldn't emotionally couldn't handle the content at the time and didn't feel ready to go back to it. I will eventually, but I have to wait until I return home in December to continue.*

I know I'm missing out on some great content, but I turned off The Walking Dead Ep. 2 after getting locked in the fridge and having to decide on the fate of another. I was petrified, and unwilling to make a choice. As is the decision mechanics of The Walking Dead, my action was, well, inaction and didn't stop Kenny. I was so freaked out that I immediately switched my computer off at the tower, walking away shaking my head.I haven't touched the game since.

I don't know whether to shake my fist at Jake and Sean, or shake their hands. Either way, this is the first game in which the content was so heavy that I had to switch off and walk away.

Speaking of Stalker, I ended up finishing Call of Pripyat after all! (I had committed it to this thread earlier) I guess when I put it down I was already 75% done and I just needed to head into Pripyat itself which led to a fairly linear set of tasks that brought the game to a close. Man... Stalker games seem to have trouble with endings. They always try and build things into a sort of climax which falls short due to limited tech, not to mention the very nature of the game being slow, careful exploration, rather than call of duty style shoot-outs. (Though the leadup to the wish granter in SoC was some of the tensest gameplay of any FPS I've played. It was just when you got there and had to avoid helicopters by sprinting awkwardly across large open areas that it fell apart).

I quit Mass Effect 3 after Cerberus successfully manages to assault what should be the most secured and defensible location in the entire game, being the seat of the galactic council and all. I also quit Dragon Age: Origins because every combat encounter was gruelingly super not fun for me, and all I cared about was the exploration/exposition.

Grueling is the exact word I would use to describe the combat in Dragon Age. I used cone of cold so many damn times in that game, including probably one hundred times on the final boss alone.

Just quit Alpha Protocol for the worst reasons. The game has some ridiculous problem with its mouse control that never got patched. I implemented two separate fixes which drastically improved the's games play-ability, and yet it still has the worst mouse control of any game ever.

Alpha Protocol is a weird fucking game, i found myself getting really angry at how poorly designed and balanced it was.

Now, if it was a game that was just all about that neat conversation system, that might have been pretty cool.

Why can't somebody make that game?

Wait, no, isn't Walking Dead basically that?

I should play that series.

I meant to finish No More Heroes 2. I really liked it. I wanted to see the end.

But my sister had been watching me play, and she said she didn't want to miss the ending.

So two months later, I still haven't gotten around to it.

Megaman X. You're so pretty and kind of fun and inventive and then you throw in a boss rush at the end, always a desperate move to extend running time, and neglect to tell me the passwords you've been giving me for the last few stages don't actually start me at the beginning of those stages, but way back about an hour's progress behind that. Fuck fighting that spider thing again. You win!

I have quit all the Zelda games I've ever played. I always get stuck in some part and then just can't find a solution on my own so I forget about the game.

Also I quit Gabriel Knight 3 and have not completed it to this day. I played it back in 1999 and sometime after that and the game destroyed my save files twice so I said fuck this game.

I should play it some day I suppose as me and couple of buddies of mine are still dreaming to some day go to Rennes-le-Chateau for a trip and just imagine we are still young 20 year old guys adventuring even though in reality we are all over 30 already.

No, robocop vs terminator was glorious ( was that a tie in... Probably not) but this guy gets bored with playing bioshock etc. but will complete the tron game and force unleashed just because it has an established setting that he has seen in a movie.

I have a friend that is basically this guy. For him these sort of long format continued stories (that I feel almost always degenerate into the worst sort of garbage) are the prime attractor.

We get into these almost hilarious arguments about Assassins Creed. !POSSIBLE SPOILERS OF THE GENERAL PLOT OF ASSASSINS CREED REVEALED IN THE FIST 10 MINUTES OF THE FIRST GAME ARE PROBABLY COMING RIGHT AFTER THIS! I have always hated the animus and sci fi story of Assassins Creed. I felt almost betrayed that they needed to couch what could have been an incredible period piece series in this dumb existential sci fi story about aliens, conspiracy theories, and you basically continually saving the world...... He constantly argues that's the best part and the only thing that makes the series worth playing at all......

I've started authoring my likely highly criticized quitting the game post on FarCry2. That game is starting to absolutely enrage me...

I think I'm quitting Darkstalkers II, the new elements just ruin it for me.

The temples feel too small, until oddly enough the moment I got a bigger one I thought it was unnecessarily long. It also reminded me why Zelda games are fun... Who wants random loot when you can get a piece of heart, new equipment or an upgrade?

Each chest was a disappointment, each boss was a bore and every temple felt the same... I almost quit when the game thought it found be "fun" to do the "let's have the elevator move ridiculously slow while it rains never ending enemies", but it was a short time when my character got stuck as in glitch stuck... again. I just didn't care anymore and quit... I even bought a season pass, but still I don't care...

Whenever I make this face playing a game, I know it's time to quit.

I've played through most of Wind Waker four or five times, but I've never finished it. Being a kid in a goofy boat a far more interesting conceit to me than any plot Nintendo can cobble together.

I'm nearly done playing Hitman: Blood Money. (I'm at the casino stage)

I'm basically playing it so I can have something to balance my impression of Absolution against when I begin that. And Blood Money does have some truly brilliant aspects to it. When you pull off a mission smoothly it feels awesome; it feels exactly like you're a stone-cold contract killer. But the problem is: that almost never happens. You have to replay the same content multiple times before successfully pulling off a hit (unless you just want to treat the game as a crappy third person shooter and just kill everyone). The pace is what makes this game difficult to digest for me. It's essentially an ultra-violent adventure game, with all the obscure puzzles that come with the territory. It's also such a caricaturish world, and real immersion is impossible in most cases (except the mardi gras mission which uses the game's innovative crowd tech really stupendously). All women in this game have boobs that would make lara croft jealous. They are ridiculous. There's very little environmental dialogue and it's all horribly recorded.

I have some idea of what to expect from Absolution and I kinda have a feeling I'm going to like it more. I think there's such a thing as too much freedom, especially once you've become accustomed to a very strong guiding hand + reward structure which most modern cames tend to come stock with. I admire what they were doing with Blood Money but unfortunately I'm not having much fun in the interaction.

That's a shame, I adore Blood Money but I think what you say is perfectly valid. I bought it on release on the back of the fanatical gibberings of a guy at work who ruined the opera level for me and

where Rab describes the levels of the game as "a series of locked-room mysteries" which I think is spot-on and how I've always looked at it. I'm not trying to immerse myself or think as an actual hitman so much as take in the surroundings and the resources I have to work with, and execute the target cleanly without being seen and get the hell out of there. Also you get to dress up as a big chicken if I remember right which is nice.

I've recently given up on Metroid, the original which I bought from the eShop for my 3DS because an episode of Game Center CX made it look fun. I'm a little ashamed by it as I'd like to have more tolerance and appreciation for games of this time than I actually do but man it's hard, and the lack of a map is pretty brutal too. Save states don't help much. Goodbye five pounds or so, I have learnt my lesson and will be more careful with any future NES purchases.

Don't worry, those people were just blinded by nostalgia. The original Metroid is a terrible game in retrospect, and Metroid 2 is even worse. There are only a few NES games that still hold up today, but the ones that do are still worth playing.

The original Metroid is not a game that has aged very well, don't worry about it.

As for Metroid 2, i happen to really like Metroid 2, but it's a commonly divisive game.
