jokemaster Posted August 22, 2004 I just started playing this old game again, and lemme say that it is awesome. I mean, the whole personality of the game is just amazing.
Nick Posted August 23, 2004 Yeah, loved it. I'd say more but it's late and the only reason I'm awake is because I have to be... Anyway, yeah, full of classic quotes and... other... stuff
Kolzig Posted August 23, 2004 Was Duke3D's code released a couple of years ago? If so, has anyone done any interesting projects for it, like Doom has jDoom, Doom Legacy and zDoom.
Roderick Posted August 23, 2004 "classic quotes"? Oh, they're classics yeah, excellent quotes from that excellent movie Army of Darkness that Duke Nukem excellently stole. That's OK of course, as long as everyone knows where the real source lies. ,,Hail to the king, baby!" --Ash
RLacey Posted August 23, 2004 Was Duke3D's code released a couple of years ago?If so, has anyone done any interesting projects for it, like Doom has jDoom, Doom Legacy and zDoom. Only windows and OpenGL ports. Worth getting if you're using XP, though. A truly great game.

Kolzig Posted August 24, 2004 No, it's the opengl+windows support to Duke3d. It does not contain the actual game, at least it should not.
Skinkie Posted August 25, 2004 Duke Nukem 3d was when I stopped playing the series. For some reason losing that classic side crolling action made it just not the same. Maybe that was a mistake
Chris Posted August 25, 2004 Well, the first two Duke games were great in 91 and 93, but by 96 I think it would have been a mistake to keep the game a simple side scroller. There's only so much the developers really could have done with it at that point and I think the change was surely for the best. Duke3D ended up being one of the most unique and advanced FPS games of its day.

Maybe that was a mistake .....dude, Duke 3D is the only FPS in the series currently released, Manhattan project is a side-scroller.
Chris Posted August 25, 2004 There was a whole boatload of expansions to Duke3D, though. They're not really full games, but they're further adventures of Duke in a FPS environment.
Salka Posted August 25, 2004 Duke 3D has a very cool intro sequence. I think it kind of reminded me of Full Throttle, but I can't remember exactly why. Probably because of the muscular hero on a bike, with a kickass theme song.
Erwin_Br Posted August 26, 2004 I just realised that I've never played the full version of Duke 3D. I've never seen an intro, either. --Erwin

RLacey Posted August 27, 2004 Hmm. So, either we all have dodgy copies or Yufster was fibbing. Which could it possibly be?

That's OK of course, as long as everyone knows where the real source lies.,,Hail to the king, baby!" --Ash Oh my, don't tell me you're one of those people? Duke3d has more lines than just those few from AoD and then Duke3d IS a parody of alot of other stuff aswell. This game is still one of my favorites! Still awaiting the true sequel haha Anyway as already mentioned theres a opengl port out. This port also supports high res textures and 3d models. For anyone interested in those, head over to the official duke3d source release forum: linky. I haven't tried them myself, but from what I've seen (screenshots etc.) the high res textures are really well done. Work on new network code is also in progress for JonoF's port. Which I'm really looking forward to.

Guest Posted September 6, 2004 I think it was the Atomic Edition that had the cool intro, if you mean the nuclear symbol, with the explosion? I have fond memories of Duke 3D, especially in the Red Light District, with those pixelated pieces of poledancing perfection. Ah, Pubesence.
ptdc Posted September 8, 2004 Ahh... this takes me back. I remember making terrible Duke3D levels with a friend years ago. I also remember distributing a porn level via floppy (har har) to my friends before I had the internet. I don't remember the intro either.
