DOTA 2

They had me warding both ends of the river, and complaining that we still didn't have enough vision. I'm not really all that experienced with pulling camps yet, only 25 games in or so, but I'll work on that.

If you're playing Lich, then you're lane support. You're best in the safe lane with the carry. Ward the close rune and the jungle to avoid ganks. Learn about Stacking and Pulling so you can control the creep momentum and get some money. Sometimes, putting the second ward on the high ground of the enemy's mid to help your mid keep vision when their creeps push out too far. Lich only really needs his ult to be useful in team fights early on, so being a bit under leveled isn't a big deal.

If you're a roaming support like Lina, then you can drop wards along the river on your way to the enemy's safe lane (too kill their carry).

The key is to put wards where you're afraid guys will come from. If you're in the hard lane, in the enemy's jungle is good. If you're in the safe line, your jungle. If you're pushing a tower, behind their tower is handy (since they'll probably group up there to fight you off).

Cheers! I will definitely do that next time the opposing team pulls some shit like that.

the super cool thing to do is

1) buy a smoke, tp scroll, and a quelling blade

2) smoke, and then tp away from their team

3) chop down trees and make yourself a house in the forest

After three weeks of Dota 2, I've decided I love support.

So I'm playing this game and, for the first time, combined camp stacking and creep pulling as Witch Doctor on Radiant bot with Earthshaker. I get xp and farm. He gets xp and farm. It was fantastic; we steamrolled them.

Their comments? EARTHSHAKER OP MAGIC CARRY BS.

I was so happy, I had to tell someone. MAN, support is fun.

Yes, Dota has some of the highest highs and lowest lows I've had in gaming.

I'm a fan of supports as well, as long as the team doesn't just expect warding. In some cases I end up trying to ward after someone requests it, get found and ganked, and then get blamed for both not warding and feeding. :-P Of course in games like that, requesting an escort is met with silence.

But overall, playing is well worth it. I've met some fun people to play with. As long as you don't mind losing, you have fun most of the time.

It's good to know that even though they have options now to only play with Portugese or Spanish speaking people, they all continue to choose to play on my servers and make me angry.

The couple times I've gotten Russian players who would play with English tagged and refuse to communicate I reported them under communication.  This was only if they queued under English and understood no English and didn't even attempt to pay attention to the team.  I've had a couple of games where I was with a team that didn't speak any English but either understood what people typed or would use the chat wheel and that was cool (it's actually really neat being able to communicate via a set of predefined phrases which the other players receive in their own language.)  However most of the time it's been Spanish speakers I get which is to be expected on NA West and since up until now they didn't have a choice to queue as anything besides English, Russian, or Chinese there wasn't anything to do.  If I get a group of people or a random dude who flat out refuses to communicate I'll probably give them a communication report to see if it does anything, though only if they put in no effort to pay attention to the team since I don't mind people not speaking English, but trying to play with the team.  I hope there are enough people queuing as the other languages so people don't just pick English to avoid long waits for games.

I can't stand people not speaking English. The game can require some pretty in-depth communication in some matches.

Also, what really makes me mad is when they speak Spanish or Portugese the entire game except at the end when they start spamming "team noobs" in all chat. I hate them. It's making me hate non-English-speaking people. Which is the worst. HATE. I've experienced a not insignificant number of friendly players who don't speak English well, but they're easily the minority. Then again, I guess the same can be said about people who do speak English. BLEHHHHHHCHCHCHH.

The number of incidents with Russians has drastically decreased since they added that option. Still get a few every now and then, but it's nothing compared to what seems like 50% Spanish/Portugese (I honestly can't tell the difference, I'm the worst). Hopefully it'll just take a few days/weeks for them to catch up to the idea of playing among themselves.

TIL "team noobs" translates across all languages.

Honestly, players speaking other languages doesn't bother me. Auto-attacking creeps does. Yes, I would strongly prefer players speaking English or Spanish, but I've had far worse experiences with English speakers than anything else. It's not because they speak English; it's because those people act like dumb babies.

If I were to rate my experiences, my worst have always been with people who couldn't or refused to speak English.

I look at it like this.

In Dota (or any competitive game outside of basic TDM type stuff), you need to communicate. That skill is equally important as last hitting, or knowing what character to pick based on team comp. If you purposefully choose to play in a region where you know you won't be able to communicate, you are screwing over your team from being able to play well.

Spanish, I can accept as there's at least some cross knowledge and understanding of languages in the social zeitgeist. But Portugese, Russian, Ukranian, Malaysian, etc? C'mon.

Basically!

Also I feel like a royal asshole every time I get angry at people for essentially not speaking English. Heh.

I'm most of the way through training, I think it's done pretty well.  The mid-lane practice has given me a stripped down way to practice new lords.

I'm liking Viper, but since he's labelled as a Cary I feel a bit bad taking him.  I'm not too bad with early game, but I don't feel like I level effectively enough to deliver on that promise.  He's just so good at scoring last hits and surprising people with the damage ramp-up he has on low life enemies.

I also like the sniper, but almost every match I've been in he's taken, and the person using him ends up being on the top of the kill list by a huge margin.

Viper was the first carry I was able to do well with. Weaver is the first carry I learned, and I did pretty good with him until we started playing against better players. Now I do pretty good with him again, and pretty poorly with Viper. VIDEO GAMES.

It seems like many players I talk to don't realize the communication problem isn't all Russians, it's really the kind of person who will queue for a language they don't speak. I'm sure there would be plenty of English speakers that would do the same to the Russian queues if the perception was that they were "better" players or had a faster queue.

I got a rare Rubick cloak drop during TI3 and now I have 10-15 drops from NEL (since there are tons of games and not many spectators it's fairly easy to get drops especially since the people in the league play super aggressive so there are tons of multi kills). The cloak is still probably the best drop though.

So i've crossed the threshold of being afraid of messing up someone elses game, to being frustrated about people messing up my game.

Last round had Argentinians farming their lanes all day ignoring pings, voice and text to group together.  What's frustrating is that I seem to be doing alright with my early game, often getting multiple kills against my fellow mid Lord and scoring most of the last hits.

The round before that we had 3 people abandon.  I was using Viper and was completely stacked, we only really needed 4 to win.  Then when the match was completely over i started micro-ing 4 lords at a time.  I managed to take out their entire group the first time because they weren't expecting it.

Once I get through this tutorial 10 random matchmaking task, I'm probably going to try to exclusively group with pre-mades from idlethumbs and giantbomb.

Had to share, epic game.
2 trolls rage quited, and another random left after them, leaving me and my mate:

All our lane towers down except 1 bot, and their creeps killing our top and barracks.
All their lane towers gone and bottom with barracks.
Riki shadowing my Viper everywhere, 5 vs 2, 20 minutes later we win.

That might be the worst Pudge I've ever seen.

I've only played Pudge once and that was in a bot match just to try him out. I sucked. He may not be the hardest hero in the game, but I couldn't play him well.

Game is hard!
