I am going to dig a 125-block radius circle straight down to the bedrock.

Then I will do other things inside that circle.

*waggles eyebrows*

A disgruntled ex player (banned for griefing) once did just that. He logged in on his friend's account, jacked a bunch of mats, dug down to bedrock, and made an expansive cycling circuit which caused enough server lag that players saw frequent blocks re-popping for almost 2 weeks until the admin used a world editor to find the lag inducing mess of redstone pulsars, and rows of pistons. Must have took him a long time to dig out the area and set it all up. Nothing quite like an industrious, technically inclined, and vengeful griefer. Which was definitely a step up from the previous attempt to cripple the server by a player who decided to stick 200+ chickens in a 3x3x3 hole under ground.

I may or may not do this?

Man, what kind of jerk digs a giant hole down to bedrock and just leaves it there? *ahem* ;)

What I wanna do is put a tower in the center that looks kinda like that tower near spawn with the bridges out to semi-floating rooms.

The tower would be from bedrock to sky limit.

And then the walls of the pit would be lined with like dirt hovels.

And then the hovels would be interconnected with each other and the tower by a bunch of winding floating bridges.

I mean, you know, nothing too big.

This is something I've wanted to do for ages, and I've decided NOW IS THE TIME.

Everyone knows the only real reason to dig down to bedrock is so you can build a tower from there to the top of the sky.

(I tried doing this. I think I was 1/300th of the way there after like a week and a hundred diamond picks)

EDIT:

Yeah, basically that. Make sure the pit you dig gradually slopes upwards on all sides - valley to the center of the earth!

Buried a Day/Night sensor (5x7x5 BUD Switch) next to my building linked to a working test lamp. Fenced it with iron bars. Please do not light in or near that area, it would affect the sensor. The sensor is a bit slow (in SMP), compared to SSP, but still works (see lamp for proof, on at night, off at day).

My plan is to use it to add working night-time street lamps along the paths, and possibly reduce the amount of torches in the area. Anyhow just posting about it so you all know what that strange set-up is next to my place.

I believe you misspelled amateur porn stars.

Ys, how high did you say we could build our houses in the central square?

Ahh, so I did, thinking about my hole will do that.

Though mostly me.

You're not using the Testificate-powered version of this circuit are you? That's the main way I've seen LDRs being done, and it's pretty creepy and inefficient. I'll have to take a look at your stuff sometime.

edit: damn typos

creepy and ineffiecient.

It's gonna wait till it gets dark and sofly and ineffectivly rub your leg. Using an elaborate pison sequence.

I believe it's a block update system that exploits grass growth in a dark room.

No testificates were harmed in the making of my sensor. I tried making one in creative mode once, and it wasn't as reliable. I made the grass-based BUD (Block Update Detector) Switch. Which abuses the bug where pistons change states (extend or contract) when an adjacent block is updated (in this case grass appearing on a dirt block).

How it works...

During the day the grass block is under a water block. As we all know grass doesn't grow underwater, but if it finds itself there it needs light. Without it the grass turns back to dirt. When night comes the grass dies, the block is updated, and the piston pushes the grass block under a glass block adjacent to a bunch of grass blocks diagonally above and bellow (for maximum regrow chance). When extended the dirt block cuts off the redstone wire, killing the output. When day breaks, light levels increase, block updates again (the grass grows on the dirt block), and the piston retracts, pulling the grass block under the water again where it will wait until light levels drop again in the evening.

Mandatory YouTube Tutorial (Best one I could find for this design.)

You may need an array of them for it to be accurate.

Mayhaps, this is the first time I've built a BUD switch in SMP. Though in my SSP game I only have one and it is fast, and accurate.

Anyhow...

It is a bit slow to update. It also takes up valuable space inside the river perimeter, and isn't very attractive. I'll try to make one across the river, in the wilds, and see if it is more accurate when further from my building's shadow, and the surrounding torchlight. Though it can't go to far from the populous area, it needs to be on a loaded chunk to work, plus it would require a larger redstone circuit to get the power to and around town (which I was trying to minimize by having near by).

EDIT: Corrections and clarifications.

Does uh, does virtual not-even-human abuse for ones own means bother you? 'Cause you really shouldn't visit Babylon when I'm done.

(It's weird that it bothers you, for reference.)

I'm not about to start an e-petition or anything, but it weirds me out to some degree to place these (supposedly intelligent) beings in this little box forever.

Also Testificates just look creepy in general which probably adds to it.

i already knew that sort of crazy was possible in dorf fortress (god damn you dorf fortress) but minecraft too i mean jeez

Or, in non Achewood/Roast Beef talk, since I suspect that mannerism of mine is getting annoying: that is insane in a very specific, very nerdy, very cool way.

Thank you whoever started work on the enderfarm bridge. That was the part I was least looking forward too.

I put down about 3 stacks of iron tracks on the way out there. We'll probably need another stack or so, and then put in the powered rails.

I also setup a snow golum farm, and brought materials for shovels. Just hold down your shovel at the snow at a 45 degree angle like in the screenshot. Tap the ground while shoveling and then point back at the snow. You start shoveling at crazy speeds.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Forbin/screenshot/559813303772979303

Anyways, we should have enough snow right now for a few rings. But it shouldn't take long to get the blocks we need for the whole thing. I think the main thing we're going to have trouble with is redstone and iron for the pistons.

Also, there's another snow farm just to the north west of the world tree close to spawn. In the normal world golums only spread snow in snowy biomes.
