I had a lot of fun as well.

I need advanced Terran players to give me advice too! I tried a bit of scouting with my scans but all I saw was "holy crap I am boned."

Didn't mean to cheese it a bit in the 3 man game, I just figured when I saw Jennoa was going to be revealed it was my only chance to go for it.

We should make it a regular thing.

Yeah, I do like the quarter-down style format I wish we had time to do it properly. For future reference, it seems like canceling our first game put us all locked in an "in-game" state which prevented us from starting the first FFA for so long.

I think you have the basics down Jennoa, you just need to tweak your macro a bit. If you're over 500 minerals, and you don't think you can safely expand, drop down more unit producing structures and go nuts. Most new players turn every push into an "all-in" because they don't have enough buildings to replenish their army when they die. When you push out, set your rally point somewhere near the front of your base and start building to replace that force.

It's sort of like going to the casino with the expectation that you will lose the set amount of money you go in to play with. Good macro will give you the confidence to make more pushes, and when you come out on top you turn that army replacement into re-enforcements for an even more aggressive push.

The other major thing missing I'd say is keeping up with the scouting. It's something we all kinda failed at last night, but without sending in a scout once and a while you become fearful of your opponent thinking they've got some crazy force, instead of capitalizing on their weaknesses.

Thank you for the advice, I am horrible at switching from micro to macro and vice versa. I get too drawn in to one or the other. I suppose that will get easier with time.

I probably should play more of the other races too, right now even if I see the enemy base I don't really know what they are doing.

Agreed, it is a very different experience then playing the ladder matches.

nah that's how you play FFA. Maybe we should spend more time on 1v1s or 2v2s, but considering we didn't have enough time for a full rotation I thought we might as well go for the 3 player FFA at the end. I also made my army to counter yours, then for some reason decided to attack Jennoa. If i had my full complement of templars and chargelots attacking you it'd have been alright.

Then again, if I hadn't had gone for Jennoa at that time, he'd have had a few void rays that would have been a problem for me later on in the game anyways.

In general from what I saw in your play, I think you just need to incorporate an earlier push in your game, and possibly an expand if you come out ahead. You were spending your money decently, but even on Steppes of War you went all the way to Tier-3 before attacking your opponent. Terran's have the most versatile base, as they can shift their tech almost instantly to adapt to their opponent, so you shouldn't be playing in a black box then going for an all-in. Also you should have put more value in attacking harvesters. You had a great drop on his mineral line, but for some reason focused down a pylon and barely got any probe kills. Only go for pylons if they're fueling some important tech or solo-powering a lot of buildings.

In terms of general Terran build strategies:

TvZ: open up with a fast gas and reactor to reaper rush, transition to marauders if he goes roaches

TvP: probe him with marine marauders very early on.

TvT: getting a hellion out fast can be devestating if you push early enough with whatever marines you've built. Transition into tanks and vikings, as whoever can have the most of both will gradually win the game.

When all else fails, just build a blob of Marines Marauders and Medivacs.

Thanks for all the advice, it's appreciated!

Since I started using hotkeys reasonably well, I've won about 30 out of 40 games in Bronze league. I'll definitely try and start pushing out more. Actually, I was a little intimidated, which was ridiculous. I've been doing great since I started getting more aggressive. I'll just need to learn how to be successful doing that against higher ranked players.

The game comes in three parts. The first part is actually about space farmers. The second part is about space truckers. The third part is a prequel focused on a blonde kid under the age of ten who is really good at "pod racing" or some other nondescript crap.

I'm waiting to see how this affects siege tanks too. I was playing a game yesterday and ONE siege tank defending my base with zero tech upgrades owned the crap out of a bunch of marines and marauders with no medivac support.

I'm a little concerned about the cooldown time for the protoss. 5 seconds is a lot of time and lost productivity.

Well, I've seen nutty Protoss builds of six Warpgates all wrapped around three pylons to power them. The result is an absolutely crazy amount of zealots and it's tough to defend against.

We'll have to see how it plays out though.

Just realized I got a number wrong in my character code, its fixed now.

As a zerg player I'm liking these balance changes. Keep em comin Blizz ! (Now all you have to do is remove region locking, add chat channels, fix custom games, buff zerg, and get some new writers for your singleplayer and you're done !)

The balance stuff is interesting. I'm becoming a decent Bronze player, though there's no sign of promotion. Down where I play, to be honest when I meet a Zerg player I'm usually confident that if I can just get an expansion and tech to Thors, it'll be game over. I'm sure I'll be humbled often when I start playing at higher levels, if I ever get there, but right now I'm doing great with bio-balls + medic and occasionally teching up like a lunatic.

Thing is, what I'm trying to get at is this: I might never get out of Bronze, hypothetically. But I still enjoy the game. Especially a few months from now, people still playing the game will have a base level of skill. In theory, it'll either be more difficult to get promoted or much easier to be relegated. How does this balance stuff affect people with my skill level, or have we just got considerably bigger problems to deal with, so it's less of an issue? I personally feel that Terran has major advantages, even at low levels.

I should really ask the thread for clarification: should my previous post be in gaming, not multiplayer networking? I don't mean to be clogging up the wrong thread.

hmm, could go either way. I'd say gaming since that thread seems to be all over the place.

Okay, let's get this organized on this side of Atlantic also. Anyone has any preferences? I would sudgest the usual Saturday multiplayer time(one used for L4D), but any termin would probably do.
