I feel bad for suggesting a FFA then ignoring this thread for weeks. Who would be up for a FFA on the NA server some time this week?

Anything but Tuesday and Thursday would work for me.

I also can't do Thursday. It's a pity you can't do Tuesday, that's normally good for me (maybe next time).

Monday or Wednesday then?

Yeah, I agree. The logic is, I suppose, that cheese will only take you so far. I'm still at an astonishingly low level but I can at least deal with some of the cheese tactics.

I am very hit and miss against cheese players. Everytime I think I have a handle on it I get taken out by a zerg rush because I was about 5 seconds too slow in setting up my initial gateway.

Bejonze - #110 - EU

I've added Rodi, PirateBoo, Cigol, Sleepdance, toblix and Turanos! Couldn't find Karimi's character.. :(

Let's go with Wednesday for the NA FFA. How about 8:30 EST?

That would work for me

The zerg rush is classic, though. If the zerg player can do it, it sucks for us. One of my more enjoyable moments playing the game so far was playing a zerg player. He opened a chat two minutes in and asked what I was up to. I said not much and asked him back. "I'm going to rush you :)" Then he kicked my ass. I saw the funny side of it.

I recently played a couple games against this guy, wereboss, who always does the same thing. He'll build 5 baracks and just pump out marines, nothing else. Not even any tech or reactor units.

What is really sad is how many games he has won with this tactic. I was lucky in the first game and beat off his initial assault, after that I could just take my time and tech up, build my forces and over run him.:woohoo:

The second game he tried the same thing, but once he saw I had walled off my ramp he just quite.

Finally picked up a copy of SC2 at the weekend. Not played it much yet but my details are:

Grufff - 657 - EU

I expect to have my ass kicked loads in multiplayer

I have won a couple of games recently and I'm not sure if people have been disconnected or are just quitting and not bothering to say good game or whatever. I played a Zerg player yesterday who just quit when he saw a Thor of mine.

I know Zerg have huge problems once Terrans tech up that far, but looking at the replay, he could easily have beaten me. Weird.

People still up for the FFA tomorrow night? I'll be online, anyway.

Man, I had sentries build a bunch of hallucinations of colossi to add to my ONE real colossus. Then as he ran into my army, including the hallucinations, he just quit. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE, YO.

If they time out there will be a window that comes up with a count down timer saying waiting for players. If the game just ends the other guy gave up.

I've been watching the replays from the recent ESL tournament at Gamescon. The finals were a Zerg vs. Terran bout. The Zerg put up a valiant fight but were overwhelmed 3 games to 1 by the same sort of early reaper harassment that seems so prolific.

I can't wait for the FFA tomorrow, I know I'll lose horribly, but it will be good to go up against the thumbs.

If one of the Steam community moderators could create an event for Aug 25th 8pm EST to remind people of tommorow's North American FFA that'd be great.

Good thinking with the spreadsheet thing. I added my email to the thing.

I have to say that I'm not a fan of the FFA though. The way me and my friends do it, is usually by playing a little league of 1vs1's where we simply rotate. Very fun. If you don't mind waiting a match or two so before it's your turn again.

I'm cool with whatever. If people were committed to logging in and playing games at least a couple of days a week, we could have a longer term Thumbs league. Custom tournaments between friends would be cool.

I know it's been addressed in this thread, but has anyone heard anything about Blizzard removing these region barriers? It sucks that we have to split into two groups to play each other.

They seem quite steadfast in their decision to region lock everyone. The solution they gave to the Pros was to own an account in each region.

I think a thumbs league would be cool, I'm certainly drawn into the game enough.

They might remove the lock for custom games, but I think they legitimately coded themselves into a corner by adopting the region architecture early on in development.

Poo's idea of a series of 1v1s is good, but we'll see how many people show up. Right now it looks like it may only be 3 of us.

The biggest problem probably still is the region lock. If this is ever removed(common let us play with diffrent regions, even if it is limited to friend), it would be very fun to play some sort of turnament like thing.

I'm going to start forming a party for a FFA, or last man standing series. BNET was down earlier tonight, but it looks fine now.

Yeah, I do like the quarter-down style format I wish we had time to do it properly. For future reference, it seems like canceling our first game put us all locked in an "in-game" state which prevented us from starting the first FFA for so long.

I think you have the basics down Jennoa, you just need to tweak your macro a bit. If you're over 500 minerals, and you don't think you can safely expand, drop down more unit producing structures and go nuts. Most new players turn every push into an "all-in" because they don't have enough buildings to replenish their army when they die. When you push out, set your rally point somewhere near the front of your base and start building to replace that force.

It's sort of like going to the casino with the expectation that you will lose the set amount of money you go in to play with. Good macro will give you the confidence to make more pushes, and when you come out on top you turn that army replacement into re-enforcements for an even more aggressive push.

The other major thing missing I'd say is keeping up with the scouting. It's something we all kinda failed at last night, but without sending in a scout once and a while you become fearful of your opponent thinking they've got some crazy force, instead of capitalizing on their weaknesses.
