hermes Posted June 7, 2010 aXbsSLeINhg Anyone plaything the beta here? While I found the prize a bit steep (without having tried it) - I haven't had this much fun since super mario land --- or perhaps Incubation would be a better comparison ...
toblix Posted June 7, 2010 This looks pretty awesome, although I'm not sure about the graphics. How much is it?

Orv Posted June 7, 2010 I'd say it's worth it, if graphics don't bother you, or you can learn to like them. It's a fairly complex and enjoyable randomly generated squad-based tactical strategy turn-based game. (X-Com, UFO, Jagged Alliance) Hooray, mouthfulls. elmuerte Posted June 7, 2010 It actually reminds me more of Rainbow Six.
Garple Posted June 7, 2010 I haven't had this much fun since super mario land --- Wow! Super Mario Land was a long time ago. Did you play it when it came out? Because if so, that's really saying something.
hermes Posted June 7, 2010 Yeah I say its worth it. And yes I got super mario land when it got out - or as close as not to matter ... 1988 1989? when did it come out anyhow? (too lazy to wikipee it) Well FS is very fun - and one of very very few online competition games I actually enjoy ... the feeling when you first win a match is really really worth it ... Orv Posted June 7, 2010 It actually reminds me more of Rainbow Six. The control scheme is exactly Rainbow Six. I compared more to those because of top-down/isometric turn-based control a squad of dudes gameplay.
Garple Posted June 7, 2010 It's probably a bit complicated for the likes of me, but it seems like something I'll end up buying regardless, because even if I don't play it much, I'll be glad to support the developers. I just spent $130 on games today though, so I don't think I'll commit just this second.
Kolzig Posted June 8, 2010 This reminds me somehow so much about Laser Squad and that is an extremely good thing.
hermes Posted June 8, 2010 Anyone playing in there can throw me a challenge, my nick is Abekonge ... After the first 5-6 games that I lost totally I began to win -- maybe seven games in a row. Then I found out that you can "prototype" the enemy's movements in the planning phase which gives you a lot of possibilities for visualizing the weak points of your plans -- and then I started loosing again - I probably need to rethink my initial strategy and get my men to work more together .... Gwardinen Posted November 30, 2010 Is anyone still playing this? I just heard about it on a slightly older episode of the PC Gamer Podcast and watched the Quick Look. I'm kind of intrigued but as mentioned the price is a tad steep without having a confirmed second person. If anyone is still playing it, would you recommend it at this point? Gwardinen Posted March 18, 2011 Still sort of keeping an eye on this. Still really don't have any money. Still curious as to whether anyone is playing it after a decent length of time?

Orv Posted May 27, 2011 Working my way through single-player currently. Interesting bit of sci-fi. Not quite 'hard', but intriguing. Still really enjoy the game, even if I'm too quick at judging situations and typically lose.
a purple future Posted May 28, 2011 as an old-school rainbow 6 fan, this game is a dream come true. my only minor disappointment is that the skirmish editor is a little bare-bones. i'd like to see a "scenario creator." where maybe you could set up your own escort mission or defense mission or whatever. a lot of those are available in the campaign and you can randomize them but being able to make them from scratch would be awesome. a purple future Posted May 29, 2011 holy shit, there's a mission editor built in, sort of Hit the key above your tab key. "`" This will open the console then type this exactly loadeditor(); Hit enter and hit the "`" key again. The editor is unoffically supported. Here's a rough guide posted by one of the devs. http://forums.mode7games.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2587

a purple future Posted May 29, 2011 i just copy pasted that from the Steam forums so don't get pissy with me map creation itself is crazy easy and fun but actually creating scenarios is a little puzzling. i hope they (or someone) makes a slightly more friendly editor. in theory they'd only have to mess with the UI to make it less complicated i wouldn't mind being able to import those maps into skirmish, unless there already is a way and i'm dumb/blind
