Dewar Posted January 1, 2016 Now, at the end of the year, it's time to fiddle around with my spreadsheets. I blew past my goal of beating more games than I purchased, "finishing" a whopping 64 games and only purchasing 58. I pretty much attribute this to playing more short inde games and less full on AAA games, but who knows. Here's my list: Broken Age Part 2 Cities Skylines CK2 DLC Deus Ex: Human Revolution Dragon Age: Inquisition Dying Light Elite: Dangerous Endless Legend Factorio Fallout: New Vegas Fallout 4 Grow Home Guild of Dungeoneering Guild Wars 2 Hack 'n' Slash Her Story Ib Invisible Inc Jack Box Party Pack Just Cause 2 Keep Talking and No One Explodes King's Bounty: Armored Princess/Crossworlds Last Federation Long Live the Queen Majesty 2 Metal Gear V: Ground Zeroes Metal Gear V: Phantom Pain Nobunaga's Ambition Recettear Rebel Galaxy Rocket League Sentris Sir, You Are Being Hunted South Park: Stick of Truth Stanley Parable Steamworld: Dig Sunless Sea Tales from the Borderlands Talos Principle This War of Mine Titan Quest Uplink Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2: Retribution Windward The Wolf Among Us World of Warships Xenonauts Oblivion Assasin's Creed Black Flag FIFA 2015 Halo: The Master Chief Collection Halo: ODST Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time Monster Hunter 3DS Luftrausers Race the Sun Uncharted 3 Unfinished Swan Cook, Serve, Delicious Pirates! King of Dragon Pass YOU MUST BUILD A BOAT Monument Valley That still leaves me with well over a hundred games in my backlog, but at least some of those will go away because I'm going to let my PS+ lapse. dium Posted January 28, 2016 I got stressed out recently thinking about all the video games I've aquired over the last couple months, and how many games I want to buy in the next. So, rather than let backlog anxiety ruin my leisure activities, it's time to start planning how I'm gonna get through these. And post it publicly, for self motivation. In December, I aquired: Undertale (Gift, BEATEN) Fallout 4 (I bought this in November but basically couldn't play it until I got a new video card) Assassin's Creed Unity Syndicate (It came with my new video card) Talos Principle (Gift) Kentucky Route Zero (Gift) Metal Gear Solid 5 (Gift) People like to give me video games, it's nice. So far this year I've already bought myself: The Witness And I know I'm gonna want to buy these after they come out: XCOM 2 (early february) Firewatch (also early february) The Witcher 3 (missed it last year but when the final expansion comes out I can likely buy some "complete" version) Sooooooo that's a lot of stuff. I'd like to be able to play the new games soon after they come out, if possible, because participating in "the conversation" immediately after release is a lot of fun and I like doing it. But that probably means that I'll be playing The Witness, Firewatch, and possibly XCOM 2 before I get around to touching my backlog from last year. That feels gross, but it's the plan right now. I'm actually HOPING that nothing new looks interesting for several months after February, because I will necessarily have to ignore it. This list will likely last me until, like, June. Or later. miffy495 Posted January 29, 2016 Good luck on Witcher 3. I'm 50 hours in right now, no DLC, and still feel like I'm forever away from the ending.
dium Posted January 29, 2016 Yeah, the big games on that list (MGS5 and FO4 too) are the worrisome bits. I might ditch FO4 for the foreseeable future, just to make more temporal room. I haven't decided yet if I give a shit about my free copy of AssCree. I like the lady with a cane.
Dewar Posted January 29, 2016 I would sooner drop MGS5 than Fallout, but that's just me. I spent about the same amount of time in both.
miffy495 Posted January 30, 2016 MGSV was some of the best gaming I've done this year. I have not played Fallout 4. As for AC, if you like the lady with the cane then you should play Syndicate, not Unity. Unity is the French Revolution one. It's just ok.
dium Posted January 31, 2016 Oh, ha, then Syndicate is the one I have and I mixed up the names. Is it significantly better?
miffy495 Posted February 1, 2016 I have not played Syndicate. Unity was fine, but I needed a break from AC after playing so many.
Griddlelol Posted July 26, 2016 I now have a back log again thanks to a bunch of sales, and picking up some older games. It's the worst having a back log, I feel pressure to play games which is just wrong! I need to make it through a few just so I can feel calm about it again. Kolzig Posted July 26, 2016 I have an insane backlog that just keeps on piling up every week. I think I need help or something. I just bought Headlander and I bought Kentucky Route Zero. Now I'm also really, really tempted by Quadrilateral Cowboy and I'm supposed to play a ton of other games as well on way too many platforms. Still, I have no time, taking care of a seven month old daughter with my wife takes most of my free time that the only time I have for games is to buy more of them, I can't stop! Griddlelol Posted July 26, 2016 That's also my problem. I love long, huge games, but I don't have time to play them. Although I don't have a child, I just have friends and an addiction to work and training. There's so many games I want to play, but I have so little time. Thrik Posted July 26, 2016 I'm just a silly bastard and keep watching TV shows rather than continuing to play the games I'm halfway through like MGS5 and Uncharted 4 even though I think they're absolutely excellent.
Dewar Posted July 26, 2016 After three years of keeping an overly-detailed backlog list in an effort to reduce the number of games I buy, I believe I succeeded in that goal and have stopped keeping a list. Even better, since I have a new Windows install, I've only been installing games from Steam that I want to play, not every single game I haven't completed, and just keeping my game view sorted to "most recent." It's been nice to let go of some of that stress that I've churned up for myself. I tend to make lists when I'm having anxiety issues then I use those lists to bludgeon myself on the head. YoThatLimp Posted April 27, 2017 So after giving my steam library a good, hard look I've decided to put buying games on hold until I get through some of my backlog (unless they are Switch games, multiplayer games, or are heavily discounted). I don't have very much time to game currently and I think at some point the sheer volume of my backlog was putting me off of starting something. Being able to free myself from the cruft that has built up has been freeing, hah.
