pabosher Posted May 26, 2013 pabosher, I don't see any warnings about the audio quality on this one, so I'm looking forward to listening to it! Hah! Yeah, audio is never amazing with the cast. I think I've given up warning people on every episode. And I_Smell: I'm not sure the extent to which you're being serious, but I'll pretend you are and thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I_smell Posted May 26, 2013 I am being serious, I went back and listened to other episodes. I listen to a lot of people posting their podcast on the internet, and they're usually a bunch of boring unfunny jerks with dumb voices over a bad skype connection. The ones coming out this year are much better than the ones from 2011.
pabosher Posted May 26, 2013 Aye, that's to be expected I guess! It helps when you don't have a PR person around, and are not surrounded by thousands of people. And obv practice, I guess!
Nachimir Posted May 28, 2013 The lineup I curated (with Gamer Network and RPS) for Rezzed is now public. Really happy to have Gone Home in there. It's kind of interesting how many developers email me assuming this is just free commercial expo space, backed by a review process comparable to that of consumer-facing specialist games press. Curation is a very different thing.
Wesley Thomas Posted May 29, 2013 This isn't specifically my own poop. My pal Timbre - a harpist who has collaborated with the likes of mewithoutYou, Tom Freakin' Jones and Jack White - has launched an IndieGoGo to fund an ambitious new double-LP, Sun and Moon. It's an attempt to bridge the worlds of classical composition and modern songwriting. She's great! indiegogo.com/projects/help-timbre-record-a-double-disc-album-that-will-unite-two-worlds-of-music timbre.bandcamp.com to check out her other material. Her cover of Radiohead's "Spinning Plates" will make you weep.

Curation is a very different thing. My brain skimmed the list and conflated Gone Home and Gun Monkeys into "Gun Home". It's probably a mod for Gone Home that replaces all interactions with shooting. Merus Posted May 31, 2013 So I wrote this thing on Gaming's Citizen Kane that I'm sort of proud of: http://floodcontrol.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/rosebuds-and-gamings-citizen-kane/ The answer that I used to agree with most was Ico, but these days I have a better answer. The question, as phrased, isn't legitimate. The question people are actually trying to ask isn't legitimate either. The assumptions underlying the question aren't legitimate either. Honestly, Gaming's Citizen Kane probably isn't even a video game. Asking What Is Gaming's Citizen Kane is a symptom of such a profound misunderstanding of what's happened over the last decade and what's likely to come that it would take an entire article to remedy, minus a couple of opening paragraphs. Ben X Posted May 31, 2013 Interesting article, Merus. I'd like to see some links to people seriously asking the CK question and trying to answer it. I always just assumed people were being tongue-in-cheek when they asked it, but maybe that's because these forums are pretty much the only cyberplace I cyberhang out. Merus Posted June 1, 2013 Interesting article, Merus. I'd like to see some links to people seriously asking the CK question and trying to answer it. I always just assumed people were being tongue-in-cheek when they asked it, but maybe that's because these forums are pretty much the only cyberplace I cyberhang out. As I think I alluded to, answering 'what is Gaming's Citizen Kane' has been played out for so long that we've got only a couple of recent examples of people asking it earnestly (here's someone having a go earlier this month, the infamous Metroid Prime answer, Rock Paper Shotgun inexplicably taking it seriously, and a (third-party summary of a) review of The Last Of Us that makes the claim). Mostly you have people saying the question's a dumb one (and then they answer it anyway). As far as I know, people generally don't dig much further. I think Europeans are much more likely to take the question on their merits because it sounds like a counter-intuitive poser that might bring something interesting to light, given they're unlikely to notice the connection to Siskel & Ebert. Berzee Posted June 1, 2013 Look-a-here! I made a browser game, wot is called "Crossroads: The Haze". It is a game about four heroes standing back-to-back, protecting their dear old (but spry) Mama from horrible enemies, and wheeling about as the situation demands. It's kind of a turn-based RPG + tower defensey thingy (not really tower defense, but the heroes are stationary but can be repositioned, so it feels a bit like it). It is the first "gamey" game I've made that is fun enough for me to actually play it recreationally once I finished programming it. I would be delighted if you happen to play Crossroads, and doubly delighted if you relate your experiences. Oh, and it looks like this (though not, I hasten to assure you, always so full of wolves):

Irishjohn Posted June 1, 2013 I've written a blog post about Starcraft 2 and my own personal experience with eSports as spectacle. It's brief and mostly personal, but you guys might find it interesting: http://www.theculturalapocalypse.com/home/2013/6/1/discussing-esports-again-the-drama-of-the-comeback.html It includes a link to a post I wrote about eSports and sports in historical context a week or two ago. A couple of friends and I have also started a podcast. It's not games exclusive (or even focused on games, actually) but you might give it a go: http://www.theculturalapocalypse.com/culturalapocalypsepodcast/ Cheers! Nachimir Posted June 1, 2013 So I wrote this thing on Gaming's Citizen Kane that I'm sort of proud of: http://floodcontrol.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/rosebuds-and-gamings-citizen-kane/ Margaret Robertson once sat in a GameCamp talk about the CK of games, waited patiently until the end, then asked the speaker "What's the Tetris of film?"
