I am quite surprised at the number of Idle Thumbs UKers. It's awesome!

Damn you and your adult-based shenanigans, mind. Being 17 sucks, when all the people you know are 18+ x_x

Idle Thumbs traditionally was a collaboration between a bunch of dudes in the US and a bunch of dudes in the UK, so both countries have always been a large part of the community.

In the UK aren't you allowed into a pub when you're 17? But you can't order alcoholic drinks? How does this work.

The 17 year old is allowed to drink alcohol bought for him, as long as the bartender doesn't catch on.

I think the law regarding 16 and 17 year olds is along the lines of they may buy an alcoholic drink along with a meal, at the discretion of the bartender.

Or you could just not buy alcohol you know. You can still get in the pub with someone else I am sure - I'm not sure of the lower limit, but anywhere in the teens is no doubt okay if they don't drink alcohol.

That's one reason not to get to America early, before 21 (!) you've no chance. Luckily never went before I was 21 so no worries for me :D Still need to get to Canada though!

If you would like to come then I can try and find a pub which would let you in?

What a weird, ambiguous law.

So I'm thinking Casino arcade meeting at 6 or 7pm, which ever is peoples preference. Throw me a PM to get my Number, then head to a pub between 8 and 9, have a pint or 4 then over. Good with others? If anything changes I can throw out a text to tell those of changed plans.

As a side note, I need to tell my interesting experiences in a UK pub. I was once thrown out of a pub in Winchester in 2006 when I was attending the university there as a guest.

The most interesting thing is that we didn't even drink in the pub, me and two ladies went there to just eat in the middle of the day and we had eaten there before. The bartender wanted to see our ID's for some reason and did not approve a Finnish driving license, EU personnel ID card OR a Finnish passport as an official ID. We were all around 22-24 years old so way over the drinking age limit.

I guess this guy just had a problem with our faces or something.

The regular bartender there was never a bastard, as he was cool always and he looked really a lot like Chris Remo. Too bad he was not there during this one particular time...

There are wankers everywhere Kolzig. Looks like you stumbled across a brainless one too: Who wouldn't accept a passport as proof of age? Screw him, was nothing to do with you.

So this is Saturday the 10th? My 'thing that hasn't been set in stone' still hasn't been set in stone, frustratingly, but I have been told vague details by one of the people involved (this is a meeting of ex-housemates, converging on London for the first time in a long while).

So I might have to duck out of this, which is annoying, because the vague suggestion is going to Camden for a curry - bizarre because curries are not the first thing to spring to mind when I think of Camden, but it means I can't pop my head in the casino and shout gamer-related slurs at you.

And, no, sorry Patters, I don't know the name of that pub. I just walk into the one with least people in, and rarely note the name. But if you're going up to the Casino Arcade, you're in the Goodge Street area, so near another handful of pubs I've been to but can't remember the names of.

Thanks to Google Street View I now remember the place, O'Neill's at High Street, Winchester.

OK So I'm heading down to arrive at Casino Arcade for 6pm, it seems likely that n0wak will be joining for a while. I'll probably be wearing this shirt, then head onto a pub at about 8pm.

If you actually want to play Street Fighter 4 I would suggest Casino (on Tottenham Court Road, next to Goodge Streeet Station) over Troc: the cab's at troc are fewer and I believe one of them currently has a busted stick and another a dodgy screen. Casino has about 6 linked cabs and the equipment is all good.

...of course the downside is that Casino is also the home of the UKs top SF players and getting on a machine could take a while on a Friday or Saturday night.

Thanks for the tip, we had no problem getting machines. In fact it was busier at 5 than at around 9. Casino was pretty cool, with a really nice set of fighting games.

Cool - glad you guys enjoyed it.

Sorry I couldn't come; I was all played out from the all-day SF event yesterday. Actually we all went to Casino afterwards but no one really felt like playing vanilla anymore, hehe; everyone just chilled there and talked about Super.

Yeah, as much as I suck at Street Fighter, I still really enjoy it. I kind of wish you could do custom games on the arcade cabs opposed to having to time it. Played a few games of MVC2, and then when returning later to see if it got busier a game of SFII. It's much more laid back than Trocadero is, I would have liked the MVC2 cab to be louder though.

It was immense fun! Great to meet you Patters and n0wak.

The Casino Arcade was as good as I'd remembered it, but I was really impressed by the six Street Fighter IV cabinets. I'd not played on networked cabinets before, so it was great how we'd end up playing with someone on the other side of the room.
