I don't really know Giant Bomb but I understand he's moving back to New York. He isn't leaving Giant Bomb the company, and will probably start up a new podcast like Patrick Klepek did.

He's forming "Giant Bomb East" with Alex Navarro. Still, he had great chemistry with the other guys on the Bombcast. I feel like maybe it'll get too heavy and negative without him there.

I share this concern and agree he seemed like the one who really liked new video games as opposed to almost everyone on that cast. To be fair most Video game podcasts are quasi that way.

Ok, so Vinny and Alex are forming an Eastern supergroup? That I can definitely get behind, as they are two of my favourite people on the site (reinforced by the last "Bombin' The AM", when I noticed that Alex has a compilation of the best articles from Bitch Magazine on his shelf). But yeah, GB West now makes me feel a little nervous. I actually really love Drew as well, and he does fun stuff. Problem is, his most fun stuff is usually when he and Vinny are playing off each other, so I don't know how he'll do without Vinny's goading to do a stupid thing in the middle of a serious simulation. While I originally signed up for GB because of Brad, he's become more of a downer lately for whatever reason, and Jeff is funny but needs somebody happier to balance him out. Basically, I hope that whoever they hire to fill out West is able to bring that child-like glee that they're losing with Vinny. Fingers crossed.

I've recently started listening to the Isometric podcast and really enjoy it. It has four hosts: a games journalist, a game developer, a psychotherapist, and a father of 3. It can get a bit Boston-centric from time-to-time, but it's off to a great start over the first three episodes.

psychotherapist

I'm sold.

I'm also a bit curious if the Boston centric feel will change much to me, as someone pretty ignorant of America's layout and culture between individual regions.

On a related note, a good non gaming podcast is one called the You Are Not So Smart Podcast.

It's a guy who takes each episode and explains a type of pyschological bias that we all have, how it works and in what way it affects us.

It's really interesting if you're into such psychological stuff. Also he eats cookies at the end of the episodes.

I'm continuing to go through the Giant Bombcast backlog and this podcast is so much better than I thought it would be based on my initial impressions. These guys really put together a fantastic show.

Right now I am listening to one of the E3 2010 podcasts with Leigh Alexander as one of the guests and I have to say she is incredibly obnoxious. I thought she was a fairly well respected journalist but both times I have heard her on the podcast, she has been incredibly rude, loud, and overly opinionated to a point that I just can't bear to listen to the episode any more. I just can't help but cringe at the fact that everyone is trying to be polite to her despite the fact that she just rudely interrupts every single person who tries to say more than three words with shouting and crazy opinions. Are these just isolated incidents or is she really as obnoxious as she appears on these casts?

I always thought Leigh seemed pretty cool. I don't really like her writing but I follow her on twitter and like her enough.

Chris Remo interrupts people all the time and he's a cool dude. I haven't listened to the Bombcast so I can't talk about Alexander but some people are just interrupty sorts of people.

I'd be fine if she was just a little interrupty but she takes it to a whole new level. Chris Remo is at least respectful to others and does a good job at catching himself whenever he goes a little overboard with the interrupting thing but Leigh is just overly loud, obnoxious, and rude to literally anyone who tries to start talking once she's started on one of her tirades. I don't know why but her know-it-all attitude just gets under my skin and is insanely irritating.

Wasn't she driving a microphone under the influence of (too much) alcohol for that one? I think she came out and said as much afterwards. And lo, there was much armchair analysis that didst follow.

Yeah the Leigh-on-bombcast episodes were pretty disastrous by her own admission

The one I just listened to was her second appearance at E3 2010 (her first being at E3 2009). In it, she did apologize for her previous behavior but then proceeded to repeat it all over again. Granted, she wasn't quite as bad in the 2010 episode but it was still enough to get under my skin.

If alcohol was indeed a factor in both episodes then I guess I can give her the benefit of the doubt. Some people just can't handle their shit when they get intoxicated and that's fine. It's just too bad that her two appearances on the Bombcast are really the only exposure I've had to her because it's hard to form a positive opinion of someone when you have only seen them exhibiting that kind of behavior.

Just read her articles. Aside from those appearances, every time I've read her content she's seemed super solid. Her articles appear in mainstream publications like The Atlantic and Slate with relative frequency and I find her to have a fairly authoritative voice for the industry in that kind of media.

I've been listening to some new stuff lately from recommendations made here. Isometric was okay, but I stopped listening to it after I felt that the views seemed a bit archetypal ("Bri, you're the only one of us that's actually made a game so speak with authority on this topic"), Steve just seemed to exist on the podcast to keep things moving, and Bri talked a bit too much.

I took to Indoor Kids pretty quickly, but I guess that's not all that surprising because I listen to a lot of podcasts produced by comedians. That said, Kumail and Emily actually know their gaming stuff and have views on movies and television that I generally agree with. Good stuff!

You Are Not So Smart is probably my favorite new podcast to listen to. It has content similar to something like Radiolab or even TED Radio Hour, but I feel like the host David has a much less slick, polished voice than the hosts of those shows. I actually like it because his interest and excitement for psychology and science in general seems very genuine. Plus, his cookie tasting segment in the middle of the show is solid gold.

I'm a fan of her stuff in general and enjoyed her appearances on other podcasts such as the defunct RPS one. Must be something about either E3 or the Bomb guys that sets her off. It's unfortunate.

Yeah, I loved the super techy inside baseball moments when they occurred, but really wanted more well differentiated, expert insight from all four casters when it came to breaking down how and why games worked for them. Still feel that there's the makings of a good cast there, willing to check back in later.

I also had a bit of a Nick-Sean-Steve experience with Isometric in finding it difficult to distinguish the voices of two of the hosts (not that I've had the same with the Thumbs, just that it's a classic listener trope). The positive upshot is that it made me consider whether I am actually a massive sexist. Good.

Going to give Indoor Kids a spin. One of the recent eps has something to do with "Junior Mints." Wonder if it's the real deal...

The recent Indoor Kids episode with Griffin McElroy is pretty great.  I don't listen to it all the time, however Kumail Nanjiani is easily one of my favorite comedians right now.

I'm around episode 140 of History of Rome. More men than can be counted have thus far declared themselves emperor of Rome, and Constantine's three sons, Constance, Constantine II and Constantious II had been at eachothers throats a while.

On the history podcast note, The Ancient World is an older, complete series on ancient civilizations, and the creator has recently started doing a podcast on the rediscovery of various parts of ancient history, the first of which is a discussion of the discovery of the Rosetta stone, the ancient history behind its creation, and then the academic efforts that led to understanding hieroglyphics, told in his compelling as hell narrative style. Only 5 up since he started, but its shaping up to be pretty good.

I think her final defense on that day was that she was super drunk. Otherwise she makes well written articles.

EDIT: Read the rest of the thread, I guess I only listened to 2010, didn't know that was a repeat drunk time.

On the history podcast note, The Ancient World

Thank you! This is really great. I've only listened to a couple while I'm at work, but I like his voice and the subject matter is fantastic.

I dislike how he says "both" but that's just how many Americans say it, and doesn't detract from the quality, just makes me smile when I hear it.

Edit: Decided to add one if I'm going to take one:

The Guardian's Science Weekly Podcast. While I don't listen to it any more, it's very informative, they have great guests and range from layman's chatter to in depth scientific talk. My issue with it is that it required me to think. Something that I can't do while I'm at work. I have to concentrate, but when I used to have an inane job, I loved it. It got my brain going and kept me alert.

The host is pretty good too: Alock Jha. He seems to know what he's talking about, without being a specialist in any area.

Does anyone listen to Tell 'Em Steve-Dave? I started listening on a recommendation of a friend, and I really like it. For the majority, it isn't funny. It rarely makes me laugh to be honest, but the relaxed attitude and manner of speaking of Bry is really enjoyable, and quite different from the usual overly-happy and air of trying too hard that I've come to expect from people on the internet. Also Bry has had a super interesting and largely messed up life, and those stories about his past are super interesting, like how he got together with his girlfriend, Suzanne.

I'm also a fan of Answer Me This. It's pretty ace. And one of the few british podcasts that are independant and quite amusing.

Can anyone recommend a good comics podcast? Preferably not much in the way of superheroes, more indie and manga stuff?

comic books are burning in hell

Man, no new Bugle episodes until September. Not a huge surprise, given John Oliver's new show, but still. :(
