Gamers with jobs is pretty good most of the time, but sometimes they get a little too up their own asses with PC elitism for their own good.

This and board games/role-playing games.

The latest 'Games with Garfield' is super rad. They interview Jason Kapalka the popcap dude.

Apparently popcap's marketers had a hard time coming up with family friendly slogans for Zuma. It is nice to know I'm not the only person who finds the presentation unsettling.

Their discussion isn't limited to shattering balls and the mouths of frogs. Highly recommended.

Soren "Last Best Hope for Social Games" Johnson has been making the podcast rounds.

Three Moves Ahead: Theme, Mechanics and Meaning

'The Thumbs' gave his GDC talk a brief plug, but this is a proper vetting on the subject. They later drift into talk about social games, which Soren sounds vaguely frustrated by.

Highly recommended.

Soren: "In Civ 3 we experimented with historical accuracy, geography playing a larger role. Lets give one continent horses, and the other continent no horses, and see what happens. But what happens is angry players."

This Digital Life

Interview with Soren and Brenda Brathwaite about their work in social games. This is the 'extended love ballad remix' of the social games section from three moves ahead. A good podcast, but if you aren't looking for a good podcast it isn't worth blocking two hours. Start at 16 min for the interview.

Brenda: "Everything you need to know about social game design you can learn from World of Warcraft. It might be the best game ever designed. A masterpiece."

Soren: "We are definitely hoping to pick up a lot of WoW players with Legends."

Also I post too much.

I stumbled upon the Played podcast awhile ago after a long time and noticed that they did record one "new" podcast sometime last year before Metroid Other M came out.

I guess now with Elizabeth Tobey moving to California last year and Chris being in east coast the podcast is pretty much done with.

I noticed recently that www.dukenukemforever.com has some new podcasts with Elizabeth Tobey talking with Allen Blum and other fellows from Triptych/Piranha/Gearbox/2k Games. Some pretty interesting stuff there about the everlasting project.

I didn't know how he would fit in, but Patrick Klepek is really good as a new guest on the Giant Bombcast. Shame not to hear Vinny this week though, apparently he has some serious eye disease?!

Weekly film reviews: Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo. Highly recommended, even if you don't always agree with their conclusions. Good, wholesome, witty banter.

Here's my current podcast listening:

Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode's film reviews

Actual, proper, decent film reviews done by, you know, a professional. I don't always agree with the conclusions, but it's always entertaining and has celebrity guests, if that's your bag.

The most downloaded film podcast in the UK.

WTF with Marc Maron

Angst-ridden males will most likely enjoy this excellent podcast made by an angst-ridden male comedian. He spends about an hour interviewing his guests (usually angst-ridden, too) and actually getting under their skin... a delightful change. If you want to compare childhoods with the likes of Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Zach Galifianakis, Garry Shandling, Judd Apatow and Conan O'Brian then this is for you.

In the top 10 most downloaded comedy podcasts in the US.

The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith

(Wannabe writers only) This is the poor cousin of the Creative Screenwriting Podcast (which was possibly the greatest podcast ever made and now has been sadly eradicated from the internet). Jeff Goldsmith became editor of Creative Screenwriting Magazine and like a crazy maverick started releasing all the interviews with Hollywood screenwriters he did. An absolute goldmine of screenwriting knowledge. A wonderful resource from writers talking about their own work. Sadly after 270 episodes his bosses as CSM apparently decided they wanted someone to edit the magazine, not make podcasts. So Goldsmith went out on his own and created this one instead.

This podcast has yet to reach the heights of the CSM one, but it's still very good and getting better each week.

SMODCast (aka S.I.R)

This is actually an entire internet radio station by Kevin Smith. Hours of new content each day... Yes, each day! Far too much to even comment on, but bound to be something you'll enjoy, especially if you're a Smith fan.

This might better belong in "Plug your shit", but I'll drop it in here anyways. Me and my compatriot Jonathan Downin have recently rebooted our CastMedium Podcast to follow the game/tech news website he runs. We're hoping to have a revolving third chair as long as we can sustain it and thus far we've had Shawn Andrich of Gamers with Jobs and Chris Johnston of the Player One Podcast on the show. If anyone's interested, check it out at:

Decided to check out other maximum fun shows after listening to Mbmbam for a while, Stop Podcasting Yourself is pretty great if you're looking for comedy.

http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/stop-podcasting-yourself

Easily one of my favorite podcasts. The one thing that I think is key to their success is how well they manage to bring every guest into the show each week and make it seem like a totally natural conversation.

I'm noticing that going back and listening to old episodes. Everything flows smoothly.

Bbx seems to have failed in finding the 'Plug your shit' thread. Behold!

http://twitter.com/99coins

http://99coins.tumblr.com

The 99 Coins podcast is your gateway into the world of indie gaming courtesy of BBC Worldwide.
For the first ever episode of 99 Coins we are joined by Honeyslug’s Ricky Haggett and Size Five Games’ Dan Marshall to discuss what we mean by indie games, why we’re so excited about them and why you should be too.

We also cover phsyics-based classic Armadillo Run and plenty of GameCity antics including Phil Fish’s Fez-womb and a run down on two non-video-video games - Johann Sebastian Joust and Cat On Yer Head!

Our podcast cup floweth over. Specifically with this one on audio design. After listening I spent the entire day thinking of novel things you could do with sound.

GDC is so very exciting. And I am not even physically present.

It is. And there's a new episode after 1 1/2 years

Holy crap! I have checked the You Look Nice Today RSS feed on and off all this time, quietly hoping for a new episode. I think I may end up expecting a bit too much from it at this point.
