Warren Spector's Disney project concept art

Recommended Posts

I thought this was concept for another Kingdom Hearts game, but I guess the other forum I was reading was making shit up.

Eh... Disney.

It looks awesome, but I don't think it's possible that this game will look anything like that by the time it actually gets released. I mean there's no way Disney execs are gonna to allow a licensed product of theirs that makes their properties look so creepy, right?

Yeah. I mean, the only reason this art succeeds artistically is that the Disney motifs are evocative not of Disney itself but of the commercialism and decadence it represents. If Disney (a company that, by now, I have little to no respect for) is anywhere near this thing, all the beautiful dystopian imagery will be replaced by candy canes, butterflies, and subtle predjudice.

Wow, that's both awesome and horrifying. Disney has such a clean and shiny image that they like to portray that I don't see how this could work, but it's still cool looking.

Very awesome. Also, Disney has just released a scheduled time of release for this product with these graphics.

Those character designs are straight up silly. I honestly laughed when I saw them for the first time. The environments look incredible though, here's hoping they come up with some interesting characters to populate those areas. I'd hate to see them ruin some genuinely interesting concepts with a population of bland and unispired npcs.

Didn't Disney have a problem with Tim Burton's dark concept designs when he worked there as a young pup, now he is brining in Alice in Wonderland for them. Maybe they have come around to his warped way of thinking at last?

Speaking of which, has everyone seen the trailer? What's with all the big heads? I love Tim Burton and I want him to prove me wrong, but I'm not sure I like the direction he's taken this time. I'm actually more curious to see Marilyn Manson's version, as it appears to draw inspiration from one of my favorite games of all time.

Tim Burton has been shite since Ed Wood, a movie I still fondly quote. He hasn't been maturing at all, he's just been making things that fit what he remembers to be his style; Tim Burton presents a MOVIE by Tim Burton. I have no positive expectations for his Alice.

This Disney thing, on the other hand, could be potent if well executed. On the skeptical side, all concept art tends to have quarter turn past Turneresque weather and few games actually follow through, and the character art does look kindof dumb—but on the flip side, it is interesting that Disney would let Fallout in Disneyland be considered as a viable take on the IP and it might make for a compelling game.

Two years ago Junction Point had a concept artist position open. I briefly considered applying, wrote a cover letter, then realized that my portfolio was gloriously bereft of anything that could pass for concept art. :fart:

Not licensed as Junction Point Studios is owned by Disney. But yeah I imagine there's some politics involved in taking such well-known Disney characters into a different direction.

I didn't want to have to be the one to say it... but I agree.

And to derail the thread further, not that I like much of anything Disney related, I prefer the Sonny Liew art for the Disney licensed Wonderland comic.

But he's one of my favorite artists, so I'm biased.

I also totally agree, Tim Burton needs a new trick.

Getting back on topic, artwork is awesome

If they actually make it, I just know some parent will buy it just because it's a Disney game and then sue because it will traumatize their kids! :hah:

A part of me wants this game, another doubts it will ever be released...;(

Hey now, Big Fish was a good movie and didn't feel like something by Tim Burton. But yeah, everything else by him is crap.

I loved Sweeney Todd. Mostly because I love the musical, I'm sure, but I thought it was a solid adaptation.

There is only one good Tim Burton film and that is Mars attacks.

On topic though, the environments look pretty fantastic, the character designs are a little weird. I'd play it (if it were good).
