:buyme: An Untitled Story

By: Matt Thorson

Available: Free Windows download

Synopsis: "You begin as an egg in your nest, and the rest is up to you to figure out. Fight 18 unique bosses, traverse a huge game world, and unravel a mysterious storyline." It's like a Metroid/Castlevania game with a focus on platforming instead of combat. The game is brutally difficult at points, but never unfairly so.

:buyme:Glum Buster

By: CosMind (Justin Leingang)

Available: Free download or donation

Synopsis: 2D platformer/twin stick shooty/undefinable game from this unheard of genius. Holy. Fucking. Shit. I nearly wept from the beauty of the whole thing and I've only been playing for twenty minutes. Possibly one of the greatest games ever, something intangible just hit me like a brick wall and I literally gasped in wonderment. It's also charityware, so the more people that donate the bigger the percentage that goes to charity gets. Donated $10 after a few minutes, but I might do so again because it's so magical. Please play this.

Spelunky

By: Derek Yu (of Aquaria)

Available: Free download

Synopsis: A 2D Indiana Jones -inspired platformer set in a randomly generated series of caves. The gameplay is incredibly open-ended and emergent and a lot of the fun comes from exploring the multitude of game mechanics which effect each cave differently depending on the arrangement of objects, equipment, treasure, enemies, and various set-piece-like rooms with their own specific functions and rules. One of the deepest and yet most accessible games I've ever played.
