ThunderPeel2001 Posted January 4, 2012 Do not use a blade! Get something electric with some sort of safety guard on it. At least that's what I'd do. I'm sure you don't have completely smooth... And if do, can't the professionals take care of it when you get there? Good luck, bra! Looking forward to 400% more BBX.
Nachimir Posted January 4, 2012 If you can shave your face competently with a safety razor, you can shave your balls with one, disaster free. Definitely not one of these though:

DanJW Posted January 4, 2012 One little bit at a time. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Armchair General Posted January 4, 2012 Don't shave your balls! The theatre team will do the necessary and keep it to the minimum required. At worst, you could do yourself an injury which could prevent your surgery if it were to become infected (which is certainly possible given short, stubbly hairs and warm groin area) At best, it's unnecessary and makes you look like a porn star (if that can be considered good) Doctor's orders : STEP AWAY FROM THE BALL RAZOR! elmuerte Posted January 4, 2012 I came here for the video games chat... and I left with ball shaving instructions... But I'm confused... why would you need to shave your balls for a hernia operation? Isn't that back related?
Nappi Posted January 4, 2012 For the cute nurse that works there. Seriously though, good luck with the operation bbX!
elmuerte Posted January 4, 2012 But wouldn't you want that cute nurse handle your balls? Oh wait... he already has a GF, now it get it.
Nachimir Posted January 4, 2012 Doctor's orders : STEP AWAY FROM THE BALL RAZOR! I wrote a volunteer handbook for my last client. They know me very well, but wouldn't let me put my job title in it as "Professional Bad Example"

Yeah, I decided on that. I have trimmed it very close with some scissors, I assume that won't be a problem. It does say in the pamphlet they gave me that they will ask me to shave, though, so we'll see what happens. Armchair General Posted January 4, 2012 ... Isn't that back related? You can have a herniated intervertebral disc (which is in the back) so maybe that's where you have heard of it before, but hernias are generally in the abdominal wall or adjacent to. elmuerte Posted January 4, 2012 OIC, that explains the shaving. I wonder how I got the association of hernia and back into my brain, apparently that's completely not really correct.
Gwardinen Posted January 4, 2012 Since we're getting all medical up in this bitch, does anyone have any advice for RSI or whatever we're calling it at the moment? The thing where you foolishly use computers too much and the tendons in your wrists and forearms end up hurting. This is the first time in my life I've really experienced it, and I'm kind of at a loss. I'm trying to take more breaks from anything requiring dexterous hand movements, and I'm sort of loosely rotating and stretching my wrists and elbows every now and then, but otherwise I'm not sure what to do. I've been vaguely trying to make sure my arms are at sensible angles while using the computer, but since it's chronic rather than acute pain it's difficult to tell what is actually best. I actually went to the doctor today, but he mostly told me to do the stuff I was already doing and see how it goes. One thing he did suggest was an ibuprofen gel, so I'm going to start using a little of that in the hopes that it'll at least prevent it from getting worse. I figure it's not a total long shot that some of you have experienced this before, though, so any advice would be appreciated.
syntheticgerbil Posted January 4, 2012 A year after first going to my GP about it, tomorrow I'm finally going into hospital to have an operation done on my hernia. I'm going under general anaesthetic for it, then I have to rest up for a couple of days and probably take a couple of weeks off work so I can slowly get back to full capacity (although I shouldn't do any heavy lifting or straining for 6 weeks in total). Holy shit, maybe I'm not informed, but how do you have a hernia for a year? That sounds excruciating! Good luck on the operation.
Armchair General Posted January 4, 2012 Have PM'd you Gwardinen Here is good summary, for anyone else who's interested in the management of RSI: http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20080514162921225450&linkID=70938&cook=no
Nappi Posted January 4, 2012 My mind was very nearly blown away when the supposed RSI treatment article started "You must allow cookies..." It actually makes sense too, since you can potentially avoid some repetitive tasks that way. Only thing I know about RSI, is that you shouldn't risk it. A colleague of mine didn't take the warnings seriously, or so I have understood, and he had to pay for it.
Ben X Posted January 4, 2012 Holy shit, maybe I'm not informed, but how do you have a hernia for a year? That sounds excruciating!Good luck on the operation. Thanks! It actually hasn't hurt at all, except for one time when I must have knocked or stretched it or something, and it was sore for a couple of days. Apparently the next day or two may be extremely painful, though...
elmuerte Posted January 4, 2012 RSI is quite easy in a lot of cases. It all boils down to posture and position. I never had RSI like issues until I changed mouse form at work, and not at home. After a while I started to feel strain at home. Obvious solution, switch to the same type of mouse form at home. The problem of RSI is simply wrong having a strained form when using things. This is always wrong. If you are able to do so (physically), sit behind your desk, and completely relax while holding the instruments you use. If any part of your body has extra pressure compared to the rest, compensate. Find the position where every part of your body is "pressureless" when in relaxed state. That is the position you want to work in. Adjusting to pressure can involve adjusting chair, desk, and utensils (i.e. mouse or keyboard). In most cases it's best when your chair in so high that your forearms can lay completely horizontally on your desk when holding you mouse or operating your keyboard. The tilt in your upperarms depends a bit on preference, for me about 30 degrees is ok. Also, make sure your feet can reach the ground when bent into 90 degrees. The don't have to be in that position when you work, but it gives you a good reference point for chair/desk height. The most important part to battle RSI is to combat any for form strain. Yes, it's ridiculous as it sounds. There are no golden rules, just trial and error.
Roderick Posted January 4, 2012 It's a problem when you're small like me and the desks and chairs are simply too big for you. I can't lower them enough for me to be able to put my feet on the floor. I had RSI problems a few years ago, but I took it easy and at some point it vanished fortunately. I'm actually surprised I don't have it at the moment, I've been working myself to death for months now. Speaking of which, I am looking for a job. Anyone know of any openings for a skilled writer in Dutch and English with over a decade of experience with video game journalism and 2+ years writing for MMOs? Doesn't necessarily have to be in the vigi vigi vigi industry, I'm open to all sorts of surprising things short of shaving BBX's balls. I'll consider any location. subbes Posted January 4, 2012 RSI: I haven't been able to play video games for 15 months now due to RSI (tendinitis). I, too, could be credited as a Bad Example. I won't go into too much detail because I'm boring. REST is the first cure. Rest first, then retrain. Consider the book "It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!" if you can get it from the library. Ben X Posted January 6, 2012 Hi everyone! The op went well, and I'm recovering nicely. My balls went unshaven and unsliced, thankfully. The only thing I have to worry about now is getting lots of fibre and trying not to do anything that might result in reherniating.
