Blue sky in games?

Recommended Posts

If must be the colder weather, but lately I crave "warm" games, as in cute and colorful, and as in "stopped being popular in the 80's" games....

It's weird that I crave light and color so close to the darkest holiday, but let's face it, 99% of games today are mud colored gorefests! Not that I hate them, but I'm not in the mood for them... Not even Fallout 3!

I have to wait for Little Big Planet, Sonic, Banjo & Kazooie... but at least I have happy games in the future, but what do I play now?

I actually ordered one of the Crash Bandicoot games, since I liked the demo and if I like it I'll probably get the new one?

I might even give Spyro a chance if they bother with a demo! I hated the flying stages...:deranged:

But.. there has to be more out there than this, right?

Are there any PSN or XBLA games I may have missed that are "warm"? Some indie game? Anything at all?;(

Braid was pretty awesome, but what's so bad about the other games? I haven't tried the last Sonic for the 360 and PS3, but I've enjoyed the rest of them!:erm:

Well the licenses for Spyro and Crash have been given to different developers once Insomniac and Naughty Dog decided they didn't want to make them anymore. Admittedly I haven't played any of the newer games out of the PSX era so I guess you shouldn't take my word, I've just heard bad things.

But I gave up on Sonic. I played up until Shadow and since Sonic went 3d it seems the games have just gotten worse with every passing year. I thought the first Sonic Adventure was well made, with lots of fast and interesting levels like the old genesis games, but Sonic Adventure 2 watered it down with levels that were just beyond frustrating and tons of bottomless pits around while you constantly grind everything. I never enjoyed any of the Sonic Advance titles and Sonic Rivals was just kind of sad.

I have heard good things about Sonic Rush Adventure and some good talk about Sonic Chronicles so maybe those might be okay?

I really just sort of wish Sega would close the book on Sonic, as this all kind of sucks for me personally since I used to be a huge Sonic nut growing up. I saved up all my allowance for the comics, watched the shows, got every game I could, and then realized two years ago I keep buying bad Sonic games out of nostalgia. Such a sad tearjerking story, I know.

Oh also on topic, Mother 3 (Earthbound) has a translation available for download at www.starmen.net if you find the rom. I know you never see the sky in any Earthbound games, but I always imagined it as blue.

Eternal Sonata is probably the most warm and fuzzy game ever.

I'm in a bit of RPG overload... I'm not sure I can play another RPG at this moment! :frusty:

Sonic Rush was pretty awesome!

I'm trying to see if I can get the last Sonic game, who knows I might actually enjoy it.... even though I hated the demo!

Was Mother 3 a DS or a GBA game? :erm:

I just realized that... :frusty:

This always happens when I play too many RPGs in a row, and it sucks even more because I only have RPGs to play now! ;(

Ah, I loved the "Blue Skies In Games" campaign, whatever happened to it?

As for XBLA... Worms? Bomberman? Erm... Megaman 9 (not actually seen this yet, but it's all retro, right?). Damn, can't believe there's still a fun/light game shortage.

On PS3, I'd go with Ratchet and Clank. Good, happy, blue. De Blob on Wii looks really interesting and I'm hoping to pick it up when I have a little more time/money on my hands as well.

The new Sonic game will be awesome, mark my words.

SEGA rally evo has an abundance of blue skies but is balls-to-wall hard. And there is always the Beautiful Katamari.

Sonic Rush was good. I'm hopeful about Sonic Unleashed except for that fact I'm going to have to play through the bits where you're a werewolf/hog with extra stretchy arms and beat stuff up = not Sonic at all.

I agree that the 3D sonic games went continuously downhill, but I really felt like Sonic Heroes was one of the better 3D titles. Mainly due to some speedy bits and levels that really did remind me of Sonic 2 + 3 levels - I remember there was a casino zone with bouncy colour changing pads that made me smile with nostalgia.

Crash of the Titans was actually decent! The gameplay was so different from the original it takes a bit to get used to, but it's fun enough, you spend more time fighting that jumping, but controlling a giant spider gorilla is quite fun!

The humor is quite good too, they even got pretty good voice actors, I recognized Grim from Billy & Mandy and IMDB says the voice of Bender is in there too! :yep:

I did hope it would last me a bit more though... ;(
