Psych Posted November 9, 2009 Oh I forgot to mention that the best (most enjoyable to use) weapons in the game include the Flamethrower, explosive crossbow, IEDs, Dart Rifle and sniper rifles. Wha-? huh? really? How did I get through that game and miss the explosive crossbow!?
Patters Posted November 9, 2009 Wha-? huh? really? How did I get through that game and miss the explosive crossbow!? It's DLC, free on PC, costs on consoles
brkl Posted November 9, 2009 I looked at the DLC and decided I didn't want it. Didn't seem to fit the atmosphere of the game.
brkl Posted November 14, 2009 I just finished it. Clocked at 32-33 hours or so I think. Man, what a game. Made by people who know what games are and what they are not is a thought that sprang to my mind. Haven't fallen for a game like this for a long, long time
ThunderPeel2001 Posted November 14, 2009 Wow, the way you guys were talking about it made it sound like it was a 100+ hour game. 30 hours doesn't sound too bad.
brkl Posted November 14, 2009 I could have done a ton more buddy missions and cell phone towers missions, only found half the diamonds and didn't find all the Jackal tapes. Then there's getting all the safe houses, scouting all the guard posts, stuff like that. But really, you don't even need the 30 hours to get basically all you need to see of the game. Maybe 20. Wrestlevania Posted November 14, 2009 Haven't played for a couple of weeks, but wanted to relate quite a funny circumstance that occurred... I was making a run on a weapons convoy and, having successfully bottle-necked the two escort jeeps - by blocking the road with my jeep and then firing a rocket into it as they approached - I just had the truck left to destroy. Unfortunately, the brush fire from my initial ambush destroyed the pristine jeep I was hoping to chase after the truck with (I'd used my last rocket for the booby trap). I noticed the supply trucks operate on a loop, so picked a spot out in the grasslands the truck would pass through and waited. Wanting to get things done quickly, I switched to grenades and, as the truck approached, jumped out into its path and rolled a ********* towards it. Boom! The truck explodes, rocketing up into the air right in front of me--amazing! Then the game immediately pauses - truck in mid-air - because of the mission being completed, so it can auto-save. As it's saving, I realise I've unlocked a couple of really nice guns at last. The auto-save completes and I'm back in the game... just in time for the smoldering hulk of the supply truck to land right on top of me and kill me instantly... and it'd auto-saved me in that circumstance too... Fuck this really fun and satisfying game.
miffy495 Posted November 14, 2009 Ahahahaha! I really need to start playing this. I only got through the first hour or so before a bug halted my progress. That sounds amazing.

Wrestlevania Posted November 14, 2009 How are you liking the console port? I must be some sort of sick pervert, because I'm finding playing this particular FPS with a controller much more satisfying than I did with a mouse and keyboard. I think there's something about actually pulling the right trigger on a gamepad that just "feels" better to me sometimes--especially when the gunplay's realistically modeled. (I had a similar experience with the original Modern Warfare.)

I take it you had to go back to an earlier save then? (Sounds pretty frustrating, but hilarious at the same time.)
Wrestlevania Posted November 14, 2009 Lol. I take it you had to go back to an earlier save then? (Sounds pretty frustrating, but hilarious at the same time.) Mercifully, yes! Only lost about 20 minutes gameplay as a result, but still went back and redid that mission. That time, I found out just how potent fire is in the game's grasslands--particularly when the wind's gusting quite strongly. Got away with just a mild barbequing this time though, and now I've bought the guns I unlocked and played with those a tiny bit. Need to get back into it though, as it's so much fun just spending time in the game's world doing nothing much at all.
Korax Posted November 26, 2009 For those who may not have it already, Farcry 2 + DLC is half price on steam for the next day or so.
brkl Posted November 26, 2009 How can you play a non-Far Cry 2-game after Far Cry 2?/I]
strangelingo Posted November 26, 2009 Good Lord! Expect our minds to be IGN!
Patters Posted November 27, 2009 Good Lord!Expect our minds to be IGN! I really hope they just fix the AI and leave almost everything else the same, other than a new setting of course. Somewhere in South/Central America would be utterly fantastic or maybe the Far east.
Erkki Posted November 27, 2009 I think I'll start replaying Far Cry 2. Or should I go with Vampire: Masquerade: Bloodlines instead? I haven't played that yet. Or Stalker: Clear Sky.

Tibz Posted November 29, 2009 Agreed go with farcry2. Not having played Vampire: Masquerade: Bloodlines or Stalker: Clear sky I can't really say what would be better. I did however play the first stalker game and that was a painful experience, so if the 2nd one is anything like the first one go with farcry2 for a more polished game. Bloodlines looks dated from the google imgs that i checked out. I'm a sucker for shiny gfx and farcry2 will blow you away ;D.
Erkki Posted November 29, 2009 Notice I said replay (Far Cry 2, not the others) so it already did blow me a way. I started both Vampire and Far Cry 2, but I've been playing a lot more of Far Cry 2. This time I'll try to do as many of the side missions as possible and diamond hunting before I hit the main missions. And actually I found the first Stalker to be awesome. Erkki Posted November 29, 2009 This game is just as awesome on the second playthrough (at least so far). I can't wait for Far Cry 3 though, if Clint Hocking and his team are making it (is he?), whatever the setting will be that time. I hope the next game will add more variance, like people who wont shoot you on sight and more kinds of missions.
Tibz Posted November 29, 2009 hmm perhaps my stalker was some weird corrupted disk or something, but it was my impression the general feeling on the game was close to unplayable at certain points due to game breaking bugs. problem I had with stalker and farcry both, the stealth kinda felt like it didn't work as well as it should have. Well to be honest In stalker I was getting shot by the AI with out being able to see anyone at all. I guess its something to do with npcs can see and shoot you when your wading in the thickest of sprites but if you hide behind any mesh tree then they lose you. brkl Posted November 30, 2009 I wonder what they'll do story wise. For me one big part of Far Cry 2's charm was the fact that it's an adaptation of Heart of Darkness and I've read a whole bunch of Conrad novels in the past year and a half. I guess they could try to do Lord Jim in the same vein ;D They'll probably come up with something of their own though.
SoulChicken Posted November 30, 2009 Gonna give this another go now I'm done with Dragon Age. First time through I got in the first car and gave up after crashing it on the same corner 10 times in a row.
