Guitar Hero IV "this year"

Recommended Posts

Activision is the new EA:

Guitar Hero IV will be released at the end of 2008, according to an unlikely press release from British band The Answer.

Its song "Never Too Late" will feature in the line-up, apparently, after being picked out at the Marché international de l'édition musicale (or Midem conference) held at the end of January.

Hopefully they will fix the suck.

And who needs downloadable music to extend the life of a music game when you can push new peripherals and overpriced discs at everyone.

There was a time when music/rhythm games were wonderfully fresh. It's starting to feel stale now. :(

 Are you serious?! Wow, Rock Band must be good!!!

Roll on March 31st!

We don't need GHIV any more than we need Tony Hawks 22 (or whatever). I hate Activision.

Totally serious. If you check my Gamertag you'll see that pretty much all I've played since Rock Band came out in Canada has been it, Mass Effect when I don't feel like playing anything music-based, and Rez because it's amazing. I had Guitar Hero in one of it's variants in my Now Playing since the first game launched. It's gone now, replaced by Rock Band. I just don't see what the series can do now to differentiate itself apart from having a ton of instrumentals like Cliffs Of Dover. If that's what GHIV is all about, count me in. Right now though, it just seems like they're being left in the dust.

The new songs every week definitely help to cure the samey-ness. This week, the prime selection is Faith No More's We Care A Lot, last week was the Smashing Pumpkins' Siva (Though an argument can always be made for Rush. Working Man is one of my favorite Rush Songs. Siva is one of my favorite Pumpkins songs. So hard to choose...). Of course, this may have something to do with the fact that of all the songs released to date, the only one I haven't bought has been Blink 182's All The Small Things (got my fill of that one in ninth grade, thanks) so I've had a magnificent drip-feed of new music for two months now. It's $5 or $6 each week and I have yet to be disappointed. With rumours of a European delay to September, I don't know if I'd bother waiting until then and just import the damn thing, provided shipping isn't too expensive.

(On the other hand, it'd be kinda cool if it did come out on the 31st. Canadian release: My birthday, European release: My sister's birthday. Not that that matters to any of you, but I find it a bit funny.)

There doing it again!!! Their getting another series and constantly releasing that have no new features and add what's cool and hip (and lame) in the industry today, just like Tony Hawk.

It seems Rock Band is beating Guitar Hero in terms of quality, is it selling well over there in the US? Skate, according to critics was better then the latest Tony Hawk and outsold it 2-to-1, not bad.

While another release in the Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise has always been expected, Activision commented that the next edition will rework the series' formulaic gameplay, in part due to the success of EA Black Box's innovative Skate (PS3, X360). No concrete details were specified.

...though it's bound to have one or two half-pipes. :getmecoat

You can read more of Activision's latest round of announcements - including the possible realisation of Guitar Hero DS - on ShackNews.

Skate does Tony Hawk's up the bum and then makes it apologise.

I always liked Thrasher: Skate and Destroy on the PS for being a bit more technical and realistic but Skate is pure genius. I don't even have a 360 but have been very tempted to get one just for this game (and Rez).

Edit:

On topic of GHIV, GH is still good even if you've got rock band. If you've got the controller(s) from the previous games then it's not gonna set you back more than any other game so it'd probably come down to how many awesome tunes it has on it.

Well, to their credit they're doing exactly what they said they'll do when they merged with VU.

Kotick said that, of Activision’s main series, “you can expect evey one of those properties to be exploited annually or on a near-annual basis.”

They wanted to be the new EA and now they are, and they're shit for it.

Someone remembers skate and destroy! I remember Taz (a shared friend I think) playing this to death and me feeling that although nothing was mind blowing I just liked that it tried to amke you feel like every little trick you pulled off was amazing because, like real life, griding then going into a flip trick IS amazing (nigh impossible).

September?! *wah!* I'd love to import Rock Band, but sadly, unlike GH3, it's apparently region encoded

Edit: The 360 version is apparently due in May, and won't be affected by the delays... I thought it was due in March though :(
