drummand Posted December 7, 2007 A friend of mine just recently had his system refurbished and when he put the Hard drive into the new console (they didn't fix it they sent him another), unless he is logged into Xbox LIVE, most of his games revert back to Trial versions even when he has the gamer profile he used to download them signed in. Rubbish indeed. I've been through this a couple times (and am actually going through it now). Your friend should call XBL support (it's technically not hardware) and give them the business. They'll make him jump through some hoops (try deleting a game, then re-download it, etc). When none of that works (perhaps emphasizing that the problem is with how they license games, and the repair is what produced this issue), they should escalate it to MS Support. Then he'll have to wait another 20-30 business days for a resolution (they'll call with codes that can be redeemed for the MSpoints so he can 're-buy' his games). Theoretically, the embiggened HD comes with some kind of transfer-mabobble that will preserve your downloads' usability on your console. The scary is that it also *deletes* all content from your smaller HD. So if it doesn't work, there's no going back ....
Noyb Posted December 7, 2007 The DRM-idiocy is even stupider than it sounds above. For example, I downloaded the *free* Halo mjolnir mix song for Guitar Hero 3 at a friend's house, on my account, and on my same hard drive. When I returned home, I couldn't play the *free* DLC that was downloaded on the same hard drive, same account, but different xbox unless I was online. Same thing for Space Giraffe, except that cost money. So apparently downloaded content is tied to the hard drive AND the box, and switching any one, even if you recover your account (where like steam, it can only be recovered onto one hardware at a time), requires you to be online to use what you already purchased or even downloaded for free. I guess their reasoning is that if it's tied to just a box, someone will have their friends download their games onto the box, then never go online again, but it's still ridiculously annoying for the legitimate user. twmac Posted December 8, 2007 Just press RB or LB to cycle just showing DEMOS, XBLA TITLES, ORIGINALS, etc. Thanks, I had already figured that out. I just liked the original format of separate chapters for Arcade games, then a separate selection for demos. As I see it I'm being a little reactionary to the change and will probably have no problem with it in about a couple of months but right now it grates. Thanks for the advice I have emailed my friend, he is one of those steadfast Quebec types so I can imagine him giving Microsoft shit for no other reason than to be right. ThunderPeel2001 Posted December 8, 2007 No worries! Re: The HD business. It seems that if the XBox is changed then you need to be online to access DLC, but there's no stories here from people just upgrading their harddrive. So can we assume if I buy a 120GB HD that I won't have any problems?
