The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been listening a lot to Herbie Mann a lot recently, Jazz flutist supreme. It is funny how such a weird little instrument can produce so intoxicating melodies.

It's been a bit of a throw back week for me, listening to loads of stuff I haven't heard in ages.

Bit of B Fleischmann for my electronic fix:

Bit of Archers of Loaf & Everyone Everywhere for my indie rock fix

Bollocks, I knew something would go amiss! Cheers!

I chucked on Angst Is Not A Weltanschauung whilst cooking last night and completely forgot that it had a Daniel Johnston 'remix' on it, it's truly stunning.

A REQUEST! After I discovered The hall of the Crimson King here in this topic, I now have a craving for similar progressive rock concept albums. Does anyone have some tips or -dare I ask- Youtube links? Thenk yuo!

I immediately associate "progressive rock concept album" with Pink Floyd's The Wall.

I haven't listened to either of the bands much, so I'm not sure how similar King Crimson and Pink Floyd actually are.

You couldn't compare Crimson and Pink Floyd. They are both good in their own right. Maybe you could find some familiar approaches to music in the early period of PF with KC, but nothing that big.

The thing you may like is the group called Emerson, Lake and Palmer, which has some of the members(a member?) of KC in it.

Also the Floyd stuff:

Some other thing I am realy digging:

UL0KzmDtUrY

U-Lo_Okyyak

A compilation of Bob Dylan covers done by Slovenian musicians, published by US embassy. I don't know if this is still going, but for a time you could get it for free from them.

The 5 hour live marathon that was yesterday with the musicians that were part of the project. Excellent!

Oh, right, there is something that has come out of Japan in the last twenty years that I don't heatedly detest.

Kammerflimmer Kollektief's Teufelskamin just entered my house through the hole in my door. This stuff mesmerizes and fascinates me for reasons that are mostly unknown to me. My Voynich manuscript of jazz.
