The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I recently found out about Ben Benjamin by way of Last.fm, and I'm starting to really like his stuff. It's the best glitch-hop I've ever heard. Everybody owes it to themselves to listen to Squirmy Sign Language at least once.

have fun trying to sleep...

As far as Aphex Twin goes I think this one is more horrifying and the beat is so mind-boggling.

For metal fans

The new Soilwork sounds fantastic, and the melodic parts are a little unusual and unexpected compared to most other bands so it's a little refreshing, and the riffs are top-notch

For Folk fans

Since I only just beat RDR I didn't realize until now that one of my favorite artists has a song on the soundtrack (the one that plays at the end):

My favourite piece of music from the RDR soundtrack is one of the general mission pieces and disappointingly doesn't appear to be on the soundtrack. It also doesn't come up that often. I enjoy it when it does, though.

You want a disappointing game soundtrack disk? Try Final Fantasy XIII, what a bunch of crap. :(

On another note, is anybody into mash-ups?

If so, you'd be doing yourself a dis-service(?) to not check out these free CDs for download here.

This is what got me interested in mash-ups and I can't wait for the 2010 CD!

I cannot believe I didn't post this yet. What an oversight. via n0wak on Twitter.

First comment a friend made on showing her: "How did they video inside your mind?"

"I want

a portal gun

" was one of the first things I said on trying out snowboarding :)

This is, indeed, highly agreeable.

For those who love electronic music, and those who remain yet unconvinced of the merits of Dubstep, please could you direct your attentions to Soulshape's frankly astonishing All These Worlds. It's by far the best collection of the genre I've heard to date, and one of the very best mix sets I've heard so far this year.

I'm forcibly rationing myself not to listen to it more than once every few days; it's that fucking good. By twenty-five minutes in, it's truly immense, and doesn't drop right to the last track.

This one's a really good song and I think the video is really interesting.
It's mostly just really basic shots with some convincing but simple visual effects and some admittedly poor acting.

Either way, it'll probably scare the shit out of you.

This video will probably scare you more:

Not fussed about the video one way or the other, but the track's wicked. :yep:

Definitely check out a track called 'Die Slow' by the same group then, if you've not already. The albums worth a listen to but a bit more obscure, and 2 tracks off their first album were remixed/sampled for tracks on Crystal Castles first album.

Speaking of which:

One of the best DFA 1979 tracks.

I've got a few things to share with you all

1) Underworld have a new single, called Scribble. It's a big departure from their previous work. I'm not entirely convinced I like the new direction they've taken. Give it a listen anyway.

lMv6USMLWvg

2) Orbital released two new tracks. I rather like them myself.

7-191OuTbu0

3) I made another techno mix-set! (Previous ones here). If you like techno, please give it a listen and let me know what you think! http://soundcloud.com/ysbreker/kick-it-up-a-notch :woohoo:

Randomly stumbled across this ace video for Dancing Pigeons' equally excellent track Ritalin:

I dub thee "Bit-Pop". :getmecoat

NB: That's a MySpace link up there btw, so click with caution if such things offend you.

Oh, shit. There's a new Arcade Fire album out.

Picked that up on Amazon when I saw it was $4 for MP3 download. Still need to give it a second listen to get a better impression but it's good. I also have Neon Bible and like it fairly well.

I don't know how I got onto this tangent but there is a surprising number of remixes on youtube.

In celebration of one of my favorite bands releasing a second album (21 years after their debut! It's as old as I am!), I'm putting up three songs. One is their new single. The last two are old, but like all of their music it's completely classic.

And finally, as a special fourth in this trilogy of songs, here is Eugene Kelly playing one of his songs with Nirvana, at Reading:

Sticking with the Nirvana theme, I haven't been into mashups for a number of years now, but this has to be heard to believe how awesome it actually is:
