My dad had a habit of getting me cool comedy tapes when I was younger, and I'd listen to them in bed before going to sleep. One of them was a Tom Lehrer collection, of which I was very fond. Parts of it are so ingrained in my mind that, on reading the phrase "spring is here" on another forum, my immediate thought was this:

Heh, that mirrors my exposure. He was an awesome lyricist and always chose fantastic vocabulary words. It makes me happy to know that other people have listened and enjoyed him too :)

I think I saw them support somebody live. I didn't pay them a great deal of attention, but was surprised when somebody when a friend later directed me to a cover they did of Eat it Up Worms Hero by Cardiacs. Sadly I seem to have lost it forever. It was pretty good.

DISCLAIMER: I might be mis-remembering the band and the song.

I love Tom Lehrer!

But a really good band is The Cat Empire.

It's an Australian indie, rock, ska, jazz, latin, reggae, alternative rock band; their early songs are the best, recently they've been doing some pretty crappy stuff.

I've started collecting some of my favourite bits of music on Blip.fm, including Progressive, Dubstep and other styles of Electronica.

What's nice about Blip.fm is that the tracks auto-play, newest to oldest, like a personal mix tape. Which is great, assuming you like what I've put in the pile. :shifty:

Fraps on Windows, Snapz on OS X.

It's election time here in the UK, and the press have gone extra-super-mental and vicious for this one in the face of their own decline. Someone made this to take the piss out of the Conservative leader, which isn't a new idea, but is probably the best I've seen:

It's not a capella if there are ukeleles.

It's not music, but really intersting in the context of music and games: Dance DJs and musicians that currently have the goal of making people cry on the dancefloor.

It's an excellent and funny post, and the implication that people are asking "Yes but can dance music make you cry?" is quite horrific. I wonder if, like moral backlashes, this is another existential phase types of media go through. Did people used to ask "Yes, but can a novel make you cry?"

Went to Coachella and saw Jonsi (new band by the Sigur Ros' front man), and am greatly enjoying their "Go" album- they make excellent noises.

I can't ever pass up the opportunity to show anything Chris Cornell-related:

Soundgarden performing in 2010!

crILNt7-kj8

I would have willingly sacrificed almost any of you to see them (hopefully I'll get a chance sometime this year).

It's called Broken Bride, and it's magical.
